Thanks. The TI launch was a downer for sure, but it ended up being irrelevant because I knew that I was close to getting a 3898. I didn't know I was THIS close, but even another month or two would have been fine. In my case, again, since I was already really close to getting another card, the TI was not a good buy for me. It's too expensive to justify the small increase in performance. Now, if I was buried in other queues with no hope of getting a card in 2021 and I got a good time stamp for the TI, I probably would buy it, but only out of desperation.
This is where I'm at, I'm less than 8 hours away from 3897, but 10 minutes away from 3967 but I might buy the hybrid kit to go with it because I don't like the sound of those temps.
Don't know which way to go.
This is a tough call since it's hard to know which one will drop first. 8 hours away from a 3897 is not very far since the queue is well past the first bottleneck. 8 hours out most likely means you will be in the next drop. With the air cooled TI, 10 minutes out could mean that you are in the next drop, or it could mean that you are in the bottleneck and are months away. It's really hard to say, but you will know soon enough when the next drop happens. If it moves 1 minute or less, bottleneck. If it moves several minutes, then you are in good shape because it means that most people were still not able to get a timestamp at that point because of the tech difficulties with EVGA's server. If you go with the TI you should consider a hybrid kit. It's not just temps, but also the fan noise with the air cooled TI's. People are getting them and reporting the results of stress tests. From what I have heard, the 3967 runs hot and it's loud as ****.

I finally got a 3898 after waiting since 9/17. Yes, I passed on a couple of cards in the mean time and could have had either a 3897 or a 3090 hybrid back in December, but I did not really want an air cooled card and the 3090 is overkill since it would only be used for gaming. I'm good with the 3898 and will most likely pass on the TI in lieu of a future generation. The 3898 will easily be able to hold it's own for the next 4-5 years. And this is an upgrade from an EVGA 980SC, so I think I was due.

I can't say I agree with the 'self inflicted' point. The average consumer (gamer) does add to the problem - albeit relatively less significantly - but not comparable to miners. They are the ones who can pick up cards at crazy prices and still have these worth their while and money. The average gamer looking for an upgrade isn't the one driving up costs, I think. And the average gamer certainly can't lower these by a semi-boycott on ebay. That's my humble opinion. Thoughts, anyone?

I don't know if I even saw any aircooled 3080 Ti drops today :/ Hopefully the queues get moving again soon. Might not really get rolling (if ever) until after the 3070 Ti launch.
