I have been offering low offers on ebay scalped evga 3070 ftw3 cards new sealed in box.
 
If they ask 1400 which is 2x the evga price I offer far less. Been doing for 3 days
 
so far no one has said yes. I am doing it to see when they start cracking.
 
Eth dropped to 6.16 cents an mh.
 
I think with todays price drop we are close to a flood of discounted cards on ebay.
 
It could end up being by July 4th and the scalpers will be doing fire sales.
 
It gives me something to do while I wait here for queue action.

So did he mean nothing at all today or a drop but smaller than the past 2 days?

It was just a passing comment by Jacob in response to questions in twitch chat, but I got the feeling that it meant "nothing" but without him 100% ruling out some stragglers or left-over unclaimed cards or whatever.

From his response the other day in twitter I took it as to not hold our breath today but more drops were planned for another day(s) this week for the 3967-KR.  I know there is a multitude of skus out there so this one response does not represent the entire 3080 ti series drops.

And I suspect a lot of those will be 3070 tis. Convinced myself to get in queue as soon as it opens or allows me, queue opens 6am PST, 8am for my time zone, need to actually get myself up before then.

just be prepared for disappointment as the site will probably crash. It was down for an hour and 20 minutes for the 3080ti launch

Yea fully prepared, put "allows me" in for a reason. Fully expecting the site to crash at launch. 

There's huge numbers of cards on Ebay, as soon as people stop bidding over MSRP+10%+shipping, this goes
away and people can buy them again. It nearly self inflicted at this point.

The post-launch drop periods is often one of the driest. I am afraid it may be a while....

The ridiculous thing about this situation is that next year a lot of ex-mining cards will be flooded onto the market at rock-bottom prices, just like it was the case in 2018. Back then (2017), the most sought-after cards were the AMD Polaris series, for which inflated list prices of up to 500 EUR per unit were also paid. Remember that? The following year, you could get them for less than 100 EUR, and in not bad quality at all, as long as the BIOS was still original. So you just have to be patient. Of course, for someone whose GTX 770 just exploded under the load of AC Valhalla, that's cold comfort, I admit.


Nvidia has pulled the emergency brake with the mining lock, but too late, there are already millions of full-value cards in circulation. As ardy mentioned in this forum, Nvidia is doing it out of pure self-interest to stop the flood of used cards next year. As for me, I'm already looking forward to a used RTX 3080 around 300 EUR. At least the idea helps me to bridge the waiting period. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But it has already happened this way.

I just wouldn't recommend anyone get a used card from someone they don't know/trust. You have to assume every used card was mined to near-death.

Why?
Mining cards are under volted, core is as low as possible, power ramp ups are few as it is running constant speed.
I would test the fans, but really most mining cards were kept cool, run low power.
These also were making folks money, so most folks would have kept them clean.
These are not gas engines. With moving parts other than fans.

Best bet is to ask what the Core and Voltage was set to, if they answer that  low as possible, and about 50-60% the card will should be fine.
Ask if the BIOS was changed if so can they reload stock.

Again fans may need replacing, and if over a year old paste, but the paste many makers use these days every card needs a repaste in a year so.

Any used part can be bad but look fine until it hits peak.
Always a gamble.
