Thank you EVGA. Got my notification today, and placed my order for a 3080 FTW3 Ultra. It will even be here tomorrow! Amazing customer service. And in case anyone is wondering, I'm keeping my 3090 and gifting the 3080 to my brother who has been trying to get a new GPU since launch day.

Scanning through Jacob's twitter feed it seems XC3 Black or Gaming are not coming anytime soon. There goes my hope of scoring a card this year.

desertf0x9 I have total regret not pushing notify on all of them, I'm also 9/16 for the 3080 xc3 black. I only submitted the notify for the 3080 and 3090 xc3 black. I don't see them bothering with the xc black when the profit margins for the ftw ultra and xc3 ultras are better and the demand is definitely there.
People keep saying the profits are better on the ultras, but I'm not convinced of that. To me, even if the per card margins are more on the ultras, I'd expect you to sell 3X as many blacks or something, since they are ~$100 less. Plus, the blacks have no backplate, and vanilla everything else - seems like they'd be the cheapest to manufacture. Maybe it's just because there's so much demand, the people that can't get the XC3 black, are just going to spend the extra money anyway and go ultra. which is fair, because it's exactly what I'm going to try to do haha
The profit margins will undoubtedly be much higher. This the way of retail almost universally. Take the price jump from the 3080 to 3090 as another example. Is there really $700 more worth of RAM and transistors in the 3090? It defies all reason to think so, yet you pay DOUBLE the price for a 15% increase in speed. sure, you get a backplate for your ultra, and not for the black. (That feature alone, makes me wish I'd signed up for the ultra instead of the black. Well worth $100 to me to have the backplate! I was unaware of this feature difference until after I'd signed up, sadly.) Does it cost EVGA $100 more for that backplate and a slightly higher clockable chip? Highly doubtful. But is it worth it to the consumer? I believe so, whether you get your card sooner or not. Getting the card sooner just adds icing to the cake. I'm sure most people have no issue spending an extra $100 to not only get their card sooner, but also with the perks of a faster, fancier card. Have you ever bought a collector's edition game or steelbook movie? I absolutely have, and there's no way it costs them the price premium for that extra stuff. It definitely enhances margins. I worked in retail for years, and although I can't comment with a surety specifically on EVGA, I would be shocked if they didn't have higher margins on the higher priced cards. At the end of the day, retailers do need to make profit. Sometimes the base model (automobiles, desktop and laptop computers, cameras, motorcycles, etc.) is even sold at nearly zero margins, or even at a LOSS. This is just the way it typically is. Higher trim models almost always mean higher profit margins for manufacturers and resellers. An official EVGA rep is welcome to chime in and confirm or correct me at any time.

Saw someone on another thread received their email late in the day for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra with a notify date of 9/24/2020 8:48 AM. At least there was some movement in the 3090 queue today. On a personal note, I am now within 2 hours on the notify date/time! It’s getting so close I can almost taste it, or at least see it! Checked the unofficial spreadsheet and it’s been updated with the entry I mentioned above, notifications sent through position 38. Unfortunately, I’ve moved down to position 71 - started at position 45. Makes me wonder how many others are queued up for notification but are not on the spreadsheet...

We should separate threads by series 3080, 3090, 3070. Easier to track movement.

Not to be too off topic, but if someone's spending $700 on a product, I think a backplate should be included. It's not like it's some fancy luxury item. It covers up the PCB. lol And it would costs little. I'm getting a FTW Ultra so it doesn't concern me personally, but I remember getting my 970 and they gave away a limited supply of backplates to buyers like it was some golden ticket. The half of the card you see 99.9% of the time should look halfway decent, too.

The 28th can literally not come fast enough. johnny_10_ how do people see current position? 9/20/2020 9:37:20 PM PTNo
They can't, they're just guesstimating based off an unofficial excel sheet. It's actually pretty useless because it's too small a sample size and we don't have any information that would make it actually useful, like sizes of the drops of cards (are we moving 5 minutes every 5 cards or every 500?). It's probably more accurate (and simpler) to just see what time the latest queue time is, as if you're close to that you're somewhat close to having your turn. But it lets off steam and makes people happy, so the list isn't all terrible I guess, even if it's functionally useless.

Check out the spreadsheet. Yes it's unofficial and is completely reliant on individuals like you and me supplying our notification details, but it is not useless for probably 99% of the people here who are using it - certainly it is far better than knowing absolutely nothing and being completely unaware whether to expect your email from EVGA in the next couple of days or a month from now. It is not 100% accurate of course, but has been a very useful indicator to approximate where you are on the queue and where EVGA is up to on that queue for sending out cards. For more info, see this post. I have no idea why anyone would be so negative about it, there is zero reason to be. Cheers.

I'm not being negative about it, and I even said in my post that if it makes people feel better, then I guess it's worth it. What I said was that it's useless, and that is objectively true - I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings, but that wasn't my intent. A data set has requirements if you want it to be used for certain things. Because your sample size is so small, it's actually less useful for knowing order than simply using queue times. On your list, positions 99 and 100 could easily have one or two thousand people between them... We also have no other data that would make even your small sample size useful, like how many cards and how often, because then we could do some number cooking and get some still inaccurate but meaningful results. Ultimately, your list just doesn't actually do anything - it's not even a good indicator of position or timeframes because the drops are so sporadic and amounts are being withheld from us, so the list is overall outdone by simple queue times. There ARE some negatives though. A lot of the thread has been muddied by people spamming to be added to the list or asking about it out of confusion, and, if to be frank, the reasons behind your support of this list aren't completely altruistic, as you've been spamming your affiliate code quite a bit. Anyway, I don't care enough to be negative about it, but I am being realistic about it. The list objectively tells us nothing and has no realistic use-case that couldn't be gleaned from tracking queue time movement instead. Because we don't know how many cards, how often, or have a bigger sample size to better track amount of people per week, it IS about as good as knowing nothing and serves, at best, as a placebo - and if that helps you be less frustrated about the situation, then there's really nothing wrong with that I guess, so carry on.
