I don't expect to see 3898 until next week if we take Jacob's tweet literally. We might be surprised this thursday though since that's when the last drop happened on the 4th and he did say "towards the end" rather than the "end of the month"

The last 3898 drop was on March 2nd. What came later that week were straggler drops.

I hope the 3898 drops tomorrow for your sake because you have a 99.9% chance of getting one. Probably next week though.

Yeah the queue seems to be moving slower than it was before. I think anyone with like a mid october date probably won't see their card this year.

It's not so much about when your date is as much as what your date is relative to when a queue opened and how fluid that queue moves.  There are November, December, and February dates moving depending on the card.  I think what may be happening this week is finally the lag effect of the lunar new year shutdown.  Some people thought it would be an immediate effect, but with overseas shipping and AIB build times, it seemed more likely to me that the impact would be 4-6 weeks later.  And here we are, a Tuesday of straggler drops.  It'll feel like it gets better quicker in a week or two.  It may still be a long time depending on your queue specifics.

I kinda laugh when people talk about straggler drops on this forum ....... they are all straggler drops. I'm waiting for a 3080 of any kind and seeing week after week of little to no movement is pretty painful. I live in Canada so the new egg shuffle is not a thing here sooooo the wait ensues. I really never thought it would take this long.

A straggler drop is this, from my understanding.  EVGA releases notifications on day x.  10% don't respond.  The next day, y, they send out an additional 10% of notifies because people didn't respond on day x to the next people on the list.  I get your point, but there is a difference between straggler and initial notify sent out due to increase / completion of inventory.  One is about additional inventory.  The other is about clearing inventory that didn't go out the day or days before when they originally contacted people in the queue.

I hear you my man there is a difference in what it is but the outcome is about the same. Seems like lately 1-3 sku's move a week and not by much. sku's that used to move each week before new year's have completely stopped .... ( looking at you 3885). I just have this vision in my head of a big factory and inside it is completely empty with Jacob at a lone desk making cards by hand and getting like 3 out a week.

Apparently blocking someone doesn’t actually work. Queues are going to hit the mother of all bottlenecks on October 6.
Demand hasn’t diminished one bit. Miners will buy EVERY card they can. Scalpers will buy up EVERY card they can. These are no more assumptive than an assumption of the opposite.
You want to wait, fine. If you wait and don’t attempt other outlets to get your EVGA card, go ahead. I’ll stand by my assessment of observable facts and credible news sources in place of some forum poster’s combative response.

Haha.  Jacob is making no cards.  He's just the nice guy keeping us informed.  I still like him a lot for that.

nomossDemand hasn’t diminished one bit. Miners will buy EVERY card they can.
Want to beat the miners? Start mining!
Truth about mining: this process doesn't make money! Amount of cryptocurrency that can be mined is defined by block reward and by commissions. More people mining - less profit individual person will make. If every gamer will start mining, profit can fall dramatically and there will be no sense to have a mining rig with bunch of GPUs if you can't make profit on it.

Use associate code to save 3% on your EVGA GPU purchase! And up to 10% on other products!

Don't take it so personally just because you got challenged on something that you said. You cast a pretty big net by claiming that nobody who auto-notified for a card in 2021 will get one until 2022. You're scaring people here with comments like that and it's unnecessary, especially with 2022 so far away at the moment. That's a long time from now and a lot can change in the mean time, for better or worse.  Anyway, I apologize for upsetting you. And speaking of worse, there is a drought in Taiwan right now that is also causing problems with production. Immersion lithography used in chip making requires massive amounts of water, so there's another issue to add to the growing mountain.

Some queues will hit that 10/6 bottleneck, yes. Some of us here think it's going to be worse than the launch day bottleneck. Miners can and will buy up every card they can as long as they think they can eventually offset the cost, but mostly on eBay. Scalpers will continue to feed them, but retailers have restricted card sales and, at least in some cases, are requiring buyers to pick them up on site. Nobody is able to obtain quantities of these cards unless unscrupulous retailers are diverting some of their stock to eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if there has been some of that. Still, scalpers kind of have their hands tied at this point. They have to wait like everyone else, and retailers like Microcenter are not allowing them to basically hang out in line perpetually and snag every card that they can.

I don't mind waiting. It's a GPU, not a liver. If I stick with the 3898, I should have it before summer. And the cards that I am interested in at this point (3898 or 3080TI) will not be sold anywhere but here, so I can't use other retailers. I have been telling people for months to try Best Buy etc., especially those who are buried in the queue. A lot of people have been successful that way, especially those who will accept a 3090. On multiple occasions I have heard of those being in stock at Best Buy for 10-15 minutes before the sold out.

You’re making assumptions now about my feelings too? Your responses were rudely put and combative. I didn’t block you because I was “upset” but because of your behavior. If I wanted to get insulted by someone posting alternative facts, I’d be on Facebook.
Clearly we disagree on what’s happening, but if you think being honest about the state of the queue is upsetting people, see what every news report on the state of chip manufacturing does.
Samsung isn’t getting good yields. Reports from multiple sources are pointing to late Q3 for supplies to increase to any kind of viable output for exceeding existing contractual orders and that puts excess stock availability into 2022.
Every industry that relies on every kind of chips is about to meltdown. New automobiles are disappearing as they are selling far faster than they are being made. Lots are emptying all over the country, of both new and used cars. Some less expensive models aren’t even being made as the auto makers are prioritizing the other models that maximize profits. Even the cars getting made are missing options, because they rely on components that simply aren’t available.
You don’t have to take my word for any of this, simple google searches show sourced articles saying it’s worse than we think, maybe even worse than I think.
Regardless, if you disagree with my statements, fine. Just try to disagree in a manner that fits the rules of this forum.

You're about 2 minutes away on both of these SKUs.  The 3888 queue hasn't had a reported notify for over 30 days but that might mean it's coming up for another drop day soon.
You look to be in good shape to get a new card soon though.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/03/24 18:18:26 (permalink)
Please skip to the table if you don't need another personal story from your friendly, neighborhood newt....

I am the youngest of a bunch of siblings...approximately ten years between oldest and youngest.  And our dad was basically a kid for the balance of his life.  Including our mom, we were all quite competitive with each other in almost every activity that could stand to have a purported winner...including competitive grocery shopping bag scrounger (i.e., when the shopping was done and brought home, there was a mad dash to the kitchen to eat, lick, etc. the best of the haul from the store), soccer (all but mom played) and sailing (just dinghies (Lasers, if anybody on the boards sails) on the local lake). When we couldn't compete against each other, we competed on time or any other measure that was "objective" (open for interpretation).

Back when I was in second grade, one of my older brothers was late for baseball practice. My Dad said he could get him there "on time" and that they would "make up the time on the road."  After zipping through traffic, little ol' me in the back jump seat of the convertible and my about-to-be-tardy brother in the passenger seat audibly counting down the time till practice commenced while holding my Dad's wrist watch, my dad breaking essentially every traffic law in our small little town, our little red MG turned into the entrance of the parking lot at the baseball field. His eyes never leaving the watch, my brother declared, "only 15 seconds left." 15 Seconds before he would be officially late.

My dad didn't slow to "parking lot speed."  He zipped toward an open parking spot, declaring at the top of his voice, "Watch this move!" Turning into the parking space, he slammed on the brakes, skidding into the spot...quite pleased with himself and ready to celebrate the victory. But he hadn't noticed the parking block (the (usually cement) block often found at the end of parking spaces to stop front car tires from continuing beyond the allotted space).  Not one, but two front tires..."Pop...pop...fizz...fizz...(oh what a relief it wasn't)." We are usually a pretty rowdy group...but the assembled parents and baseball teammates just a few feet away that turned to stare at us with bewilderment...well it was enough to silence the carload of us for an extended beat or five.

It is true that my brother technically was not late to practice that night. But we were all late getting home afterwards (tow truck, new tires, etc. etc.). And thereafter, every poorly thought through choice on soccer fields, on streets or on the water...the family mantra became, "Watch this move!" My dad should have gotten it tattooed on his butt or something...he never lived down that trip across town.

I thought of my late dad today as I looked at the stories about the Suez Canal...having been raised by my dad, I can understand why the captain of the container ship thought...no, knew...that he could successfully pilot the ship through the canal in the middle of 40-knot winds in a sandstorm without concern....

"Watch this move!"

I bet Jensen said the same thing to himself last fall as he was preparing to reveal the 30 series and announce the 3080 and 3090 launch dates.

Our watch continues tomorrow. Best of luck!

Thank you for posting this.
We see this at work too, demand for autos and parts are increasing beyond capacity and shipping costs have skyrocketed.  People trying to get financed who have been laid off for COVID can't use unemployment insurance as proof of income while people who are doing quite well in the new economy are getting historically low interest rates as banks are desperate to secure their business.

Some expensive models aren’t even being made as the auto makers are prioritizing the other models that maximize profits.

I took issue with your "nobody who has a 2021 time stamp will get a card until 2022" is all. It's way too early to paint that grim of a picture, especially when it's not being put out there by Nvidia. If you must block me over this, that's your choice. I blocked someone here, but it was because they scalped a card and bragged about it, in this thread of all places. You're clearly upset, or you wouldn't have responded.... twice.... after having already blocked me. I didn't intend it to be rude or insulting, you just took it that way and ran for cover. Again, I apologize.

Actually, I don't think we disagree on what's happening very much, if at all. We just have different perspectives on what to do in the mean time. I tend to lean on information that comes directly from the source. In this case, Nvidia. The rest of it is just noise. I don't care what some blogger named "Darklord", or whoever it was in that link that someone posted, says about chip delays unless they provide some links (they didn't). There is a lot of misinformation out there. A lot of spin, and predictions based on assumptions by people who don't actually have information that nobody else has (even though they claim to). Nvidia said it would be bad until into Q2 2021. Let's see how it goes until then. I expect them to put out another press release between now and the start of summer. If they say it's time to freak out, I'll freak out. Otherwise, I'm going to exercise patience and wait until I hear something from those who are actually making the chips that will be attached to the GPU that I eventually get.  You can do whatever you want, but I encourage you to reconsider posts that twist an already deeply embedded knife. Everyone knows that there are chip shortages. As others have said, let's try to keep it positive. When someone with one or two posts has a 2021 time stamp for a 3897 and asks how long they will have to wait, it might be a better idea to suggest that they try Best Buy while they wait for the queue to catch up to them vs. "DUDE, YOU'RE SCREWED. BY THE TIME YOU GET YOUR 3080 THE 4080'S WILL BE OUT. HA HA HA!". And I'm not exaggerating either. I have seen multiple posts here that more or less say what I typed in upper case. It's not cool. It might be realistic, who knows, but it's still not cool. I have been waiting here since September and I would say that the good cheer in this thread mostly ran out around early December. If it were not for people like enewt I would have to take a bleach bath after reading some of the posts that I read here. A lot of angst and pent up rage... over a card.

The automobile chip shortage is very real problem in the short term, and I don't think anyone here is going to refute that. Fortunately, it sounds like it's more of a concern for auto manufacturers vs. GPU seekers.

“Ran for cover”? SMH
I remember the guy you picked a fight with. You misrepresented what he said too. Ok, going back to ignoring the mobile page.
