The thing that really hurts me here is that I didn't go down the list and hit notify on all the cards. I hit the ones that I thought I wanted.. 2 of the 3 I notified have no movement. (The third is the 3060ti.) I am now down to a single working video output on my 980ti which has the unfortunate consequence of my side job not being viable. (twitch affiliate, can not run with single monitor and still engage with viewers.) I just have all my fingers and toes crossed that on the other side of lunar new years things start to move otherwise I am at the deadend of the queues that are moving. One of these days I will post a "got it" post... one. of. these. days.

Yeah I am 90 minutes from the one in Clifton ,NJ. One bonus is cheap sales tax 3.5% It is a poor town so they try to help it with a lower sales tax.

Hi folks. It's been a long day (for a lot of us, I am sure). I would like to try to find a way back to the collegiality and comradeship with which we have historically comported ourselves. The wall is tall, our watch is unduly long and the night is cold...so we need to huddle together in some safe spaces (hopefully like this forum) where we can share our collective burden -- and thereby -- shorten the perceived wait on the sidelines of gaming goodness and joy. I am not sure how to bring us all back together, except to say that folks are going to have different perspectives on the issue of ebay. And without being too "bothsidesism" about it, I do think that this community is strong enough and full of enough good faith that each of us -- and the group as a whole -- can meet at a more cordial level of discourse. To try to set an example of this, I pulled a bit of thread dialog from about two weeks or so ago about this topic and will post it here as just one example (not the "right" example) of how folks can disagree without being...pardon the borrow...disagreeable. enewt

hallowen Isn't it is amazing how fast New scapled 3090 Kingpins appear on Ebay almost right after an EVGA drop.
I mean, my 3090 FTW3 Hybrid is going to appear on EBay not long after I receive my Kingpin... but I'll be listing it at a 'regular' price, and whatever it gets bid up to is the purchasing people's business. In reviewing ebay...at one of my weaker moments (I did not cave!)...that is what the scalpers appear to be doing. They price their card at or even below retail and let the bidders go crazy. What one of my friends did (and I am not suggesting you need to do this, but I thought it was cool), is he did a "purchase it now" listing at whatever his total cost was...purchase, plus taxes, plus shipping. And then he charged shipping from his home to the buyer's home. It sold immediately and for a few hundred dollars less than what the scalpers were getting through the bidding process. Again, not suggesting that you do this approach...just that the scalpers aren't setting crazy high prices for the auctions...but they are getting bid up to ridiculous prices. Last time I looked, a good amount of actual scalpers are listing at Buy It Now price (if you look at Completed/Sold items) that is a mean of the average recent sales prices for the given card, thusly preventing troll-bidding on cards that would delay the sale during the process required before you can relist an item that someone refuses to pay for. I'm sure by now the trolling is lessened, but it's still there. The primary reason I wouldn't do what you suggested is because a Scalper would likely buy it, and I don't want to feed their greed. I'd rather the card at least have a good chance of going to someone that's actually going to use it, which is why I'll list it as an auction. Fair points, all. Best of luck with it. Please, let's try to find a way back to our normal order. This is why enewt is awesome. I don't know your name. But you make all the sense in the world. I appreciate you and all that you say here. Not that it solves your problem of having an old graphics card, but a stop gap measure could be getting on of those USB hubs/docks. Is that a feasible alternative for you?

Nearest Microcenter to me is over 500 miles away, about 1/3 of that is on roads that are 2-lane highways with a maximum speed limit of 55 - so getting one from a store during launch weeks was definitely not an option. Granted, making a day of it if you were guaranteed one wouldn't be so bad, but I have a feeling stores still sell out of them rather quickly even now.

you shouldnt have to blow 300$ in gas to get a graphics card worth like 700-800$. Sturm375 How about something somewhat constructive, how would you, or anyone on this thread, construct a retail website to be fair to all, and to take enough measures against hoarders, miners, and bots?
I mean I've already said ways to fix it. And its too late to fix it. Because the stock is gone. The fix would have been 1-2 per person/per address. The fix would have been better bot defenses like secondary check-in or anti-bot authentication like those little caption images but a little more sophisticated. Something a bot can't figure out, if Runescape can do it 15 years ago, a website can do it today. This would have not been a challenge for these companies. The fix would have been blocking Proxy lists known to host botnets. There is no fixing this now. There is no constructive criticism. There is only hindsight. They catered to profit and left their fans in the dust, and that is something that is going to haunt them. Now their loyal fans are going to pay 30-50% above what they should be paying, and no one is happy about it.

If you're gonna make a day of it, might as well rent something for the day that gets 40+ miles to a gallon and has a decent stereo, then, like the commercial says "cruisin' together" lol I agree you shouldn't HAVE to do that just to get a card though, and I do think it's going to get worse before it gets better in terms of availability - especially with the news covering the fact that these chip shortages are effecting the Auto & Cell Phone industries now, you think Samsung and TSMC are going to prioritize the "lowly PC industry" over automotive & cell phones? Neither do I.

Not only that but I mean you have these people, mining a currency that has as much basis in reality as pixie dust from Peter Pan. Crypto currency isnt benefitting anyone, its just another way to make money. You're just blowing through electricity, trying to make a few bucks. I mean you'd need 10-15 3080s just to make a living wage (For now). Its a losing concept, because you need more computing power to make the same amount of money as time goes on. That means more electricity, more startup costs, less supply and more demand. It is the ultimate get rich quick philosophy. Edit: If people would have invested this much money in green energy than in crypto currency mining, you'd be doing the world a favor and making money off of it.

If the U.S. had invested a proper tax rate on the rich in to renewable energy over the last 20 years the entire country would be off non-green energy by now. Mining is basically a money sink for hardware & energy waste, I agree with you on that. Similar concept to the stock market, the majority of that is the rich getting richer, your run of the mill person is not going to make a notable amount of money on mining - only the big operations are actually making money, and those are people that are already rich 99% of the time. No amount of anything excuses NVidia from how badly they bungled this launch with rushing Ampere out the door with inadequate launch supply backed up by even worse overall supply sustainment since then.

All those winning about not being close to a Microcenter, think of us Canadians that only have a handful of PC hardware store scattered around the country. The one I know about... Canada Computers: 39 stores. Closest to me is 6-7 hours one-way trip. Memory Express: 15 stores. Closest to me seems to be like 9-10 hours one-way trip. Most of them are in the west of the country. But what about Best Buy? Well, from my experience, Best Buy doesn't have much hardware in their storefronts in Canada. Most of it is online. The closest BB to me is still 90 minutes away from where I live. And, where I live, there's only ONE electronics store left open - and only sell laptops and basic hardware (mouse,, keyboards, monitors, etc.). We have a PC shop. They can sell you hardware but choice is limited, and from what I heard, they markup the price a lot. And the other "PC" shop is more of a business PC Shop + Apple PCs. Clearly, the US has much more options in storefront than Canada. When I see pics or videos of Micro Center from LTT, I just wish there were *any* of these kind of shops near me.

Dabadger84 For some perspective, the 3080 FTW3 step up queue is still on early 9/18/2020.

So when you ask "could it be any worse?" Yes, yes it could. Not by much, but it could.
Is there a page/thread that tracks the step up queue informally or formally? Just curious where you got that date.

MagicTacoTruck I've been on a whole bunch of lists since 9/23. Still nothing.
reading this makes me feel less pain about not signing up for each and every card as fast as I could have done.

I hope today's drops are better than last night's referees. Yikes. O_o Good luck on the drops today everyone, and remember the basics: - Associates Code gets you a discount (3% off GPUs, up to 10% off other products on eVGA.com, several people have Associates Code links in their signatures)
- Hybrid card tube length is 400mm and should be mounted as exhaust whenever possible to avoid feeding your system lava air as intake
- if you purchase a card elsewhere, don't remove your notifies until you receive it, just to be on the safe side
- PSU recommendations are 750-850W Minimum for a 3080, 850-1000W for a 3090 if you want to be on the "safe" side
- Lastly, Kingpin fan cords are only 6" long, and the stock fans are garbage, you should plan on replacing them
I shortened my "spam" as some would call it heaven forbid someone provide helpful hints that new/returning visitors may not be aware of, amirite?

There's a spreadsheet in the North American Step Up Queue for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra thread in the Step Up forum area. Not sure if anyone is bothering to update their status anymore, but I do know that people are mostly complaining in it about it not moving, AT ALL, pretty much since before December's break started. Makes me glad I didn't wait on step up, that's for sure.

Lebon14 All those winning about not being close to a Microcenter, think of us Canadians that only have a handful of PC hardware store scattered around the country.
Man, you must live out of the major cities. For me, I have a lot of options for Canada Computers that are close by, one being less 5 min away, while others are between 15-30 min away and the same for BB. For Memory Express, well that's another story since I'm not in the west coast (most of them are in the west). The closest is about 2 hours away. But yes, every since NCIX closed (they used to have a storefront), Canada Computers has been my go to for storefront and Newegg for online. I found that Amazon prizes are always higher than Canada Computers and Newegg.
