str0ntium Haha. I remember doing this on a Radeon 9500 pro like 20 years ago (for the memory). That card was a piece of crap! I also put on a Zalman heatsink for the chip.
I honestly almost took an old BFG 6800GT apart to stock that thing's copper heatsink on the back of the Kingpin, but then I thought about it & went "What if that's not actually flat... or the card doesn't sit flat..." so I decided to go with the small heatsinks... but I seriously thought they wouldn't be THAT small. the BIGGEST of them are 14x14 MILLIMETERS lol Unicornkitty I might do this even though I’m getting a 3070!
Keep in mind this benefits the 3090 the most because it has vRAM chips on the backside of the PCB - however, any card with a backplate that actually provides active cooling (aka has thermal pads between the PCB/components and the backplate) would probably see some benefit from extra heat dissipation on the back of the card. Even if the card doesn't have a backplate, you could still slap some lil' heatsinks on the backside of warm components - just make sure you use thermal pads of sufficient thickness to avoid any possible shorting/grounding of components to each other on the back of the card in that case. Definitely advise very high caution if a backplate isn't present. I basically took a look at this picture, surmised about where the vRAM chips were, through the backplate, and tried to line up the outer heatsinks with the chips - based on the "after" temps, I think I did a decent job: Alynoser
Dabadger84 For those getting 3090s, I present to you, adding heatsinks to help keep the back of the card happy, phase 1:
This was waaaaaaaay more trouble than it looks like it shoulda been and not as much coverage as I was hoping to get out of the kit I bought, but... for those looking at 3090s specifically, I'd definitely recommend looking in to getting some heatsinks for the back of the card if you can. I have my card vertically mounted now, with a fan blowing on those lil' heatsinks, just ran a PR run to compare temps stock vs stock to an old run I did when I got the card: Mem1 & Mem2 are 4-6C cooler than the old run, and most of the other temps are 1-2C cooler across the board. I'm definitely going to be picking up another thing of heatsinks to put some over the VRM areas on the back of the card. The ones in the picture are applied via thermal tape, by the by. The whole kit, small as it was, only cost $11, so definitely worth it for that temperature reduction!
Could you post the link of where you got those?
They're really small & an absolute pain in the butt to get the film off of but yeah: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B084X4VMP9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they're definitely real metal & not some cheap crapola. I just wish they were copper (purely from a cosmetic perspective since I'm eventually going to have an eVGA Z590 Dark which has lots of exposed copper, on top of the Kingpin, which also has copper in a lot of places visible). I can't find copper ones that are like those anywhere as yet.

In the category of “totally predictable news”...after earnings reports today, eBay was up approximately 11% in aftermarket trading and Paypal was up approximately 5.5% (PayPal tripled their profit from prior comparable). I wonder how much of that was due to scalpers misappropriating our cards for their own financial benefit...I don’t actually wonder...it is too painful to guestimate whether it is 5% or 50% of eBay’s performance above Wall Street’s expectations; regardless of the total amount, I am confident it includes many of our dashed hopes and dreams for new builds, refreshed builds, builds for loved ones...too much gaming joy lost to greed. In other news, a few cards dropped to a few queues. Hopefully we can get some sizable drops tomorrow that edge out the sinking feeling in my gut that we are in for a Lunar New Year bereft of gaming goodness for ourselves and our fellow watchers. It is certainly moving.... I don't think the volume is that high...rather just a period in the timeline of fewer registrations.

Dabadger84 3090 FTW3 Hybrid resale got pretty crazy at the end, 17 watchers - in the last 90 seconds of the listing it went up, a lot O_o People are crazy fighting that hard & paying this much over invoice. I'm offering the dude his choice of shipping method at no extra cost cuz I feel bad that he's paying that much for it - despite the fact that I'm not actually "making" that much since EBay/Paypal fees are a b-i-youknowwhat.
Great, so you're here to tell a bunch of people who are waiting for months to get a card about how you scalped one. Know your audience.
Riiiight. I used the card for a month then upgraded & resold the other card. You're confusing scalpers that sell dozens or hundreds of units purely for the profit for someone reselling hardware they're not longer going to use. How much people bid on it isn't exactly up to me dude.
I'm sorry, You upgraded from a 3090 to what, another 3090 ? yeah, probably the wrong place to boast about reselling a card, at-least at this point in time.
*facepalm* I love how everyone just takes things as gloat or boasting all the time, reminds me of an old saying - some people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.
coldrain85 The bidding war was your choice, not theirs. Why not just list it for retail + fees and call it at that?
The bidding war was my choice... O_o so I'm supposed to sell it at cost & let some scalper with a bot that scans for low-price listings to buy & resell them at a profit get my card instead of someone that actually wants to use it for, you know, gaming, like I did? That logic is flawed. Saying I am "possibly taking advantage of the situation" to potentially make profit (which after fees, shipping and my initial investment, it's not) would be accurate. Saying I'm "scalping and gloating about a profit sale" is not. I would have resold the card locally, but I live literally in bum**** Egypt when it comes to how barren this part of the U.S. is in terms of gamers - there's literally no more than a dozen posts for computer parts sales on Facebook in this area and most of it is older, used stuff, I seriously doubt anyone out here especially given the current economic climate can afford to drop $1900 on a GPU out of nowhere - and if they can, they probably already did. I tried to resell my 3080 FTW3 Ultra locally when I got rid of that after getting the Hybrid card, no one bit for a week - not wasting that much time waiting again when prices are only going up. The guy that ended up winning it was the original (first) bidder, gave him a choice of better shipping options (at no cost addition) when the original shipment payment was FREE on the listing, and he asked questions that make me believe it's going to a good home (examples: asked how the card was used, was it overclocked a lot, what temperatures it ran at, etc). I'm also going to make sure he has the ability to be taken care of via the full warranty, be it through re-registering it himself, or I will handle it with only him having to pay for return shipping of the card, for the life of the warranty. I do that with all the hardware I resell, be it locally or via EBay. Thanks to Liftedcross for the backup, but I really think it's more a case of what I said earlier. I.E. some people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.
This is straight trash. You do you if you like, but giving up to the minute details on offloading a card you got from the queue (an assumption, but I don't think the hydro cards are available elsewhere) is just bad form. It's especially bad when in the next breath you're thanking someone for using your stupid evga code because it gets you closer to a new mobo. You are acting like a leech. You take charity from others on these boards and then go straight auction on a card you got from the queue here because you figure if you don't make that money, someone else will. You may be a great person. I don't know you, so I can't speak on that. But I can speak on how tone deaf you are with what you're saying.

This has been discussed in this thread multiple times, but EVGA does have contractual obligations to regular retail outlets and has to send a majority of that stock to those retailers. The queue is essentially the excess that's not already spoken for to those retailers. As for the scarcity of the hybrid GPUs, they are niche and only sold by EVGA directly, but that does not guarantee any that they will be produced in numbers equal to any of the other SKUs using the same chip.

- Too many people are only "happy" when they have something to complain about
- Too many people just assume they're entitled to stuff

First of all "using my stupid code" as you so jealously & eloquently put it, gets them a discount - it also precludes me from being able to get said discount. The return on investment of helping & being kind on these forums & people thereby using my code is a choice they make of their own free will, and results in some eVGA Bucks, that I have chosen to allocate towards an eventual motherboard upgrade. To the point of "assuming the worst" as some people have here while complaining - was a number given? Do you even know if I made profit? Do you realize how much EBay fees are (10%, by the way, which equates to $200 of a $2000 sale as an example that is relevant in this case with a $1799 retail card), adding on top of that shipping ($20) which I did not charge for, and Paypal fees (3%) - then adding in sales tax & shipping I paid to get the card ($140 combined)? Meaning just to resell the card and break even, one would have to have a starting price of $2225, roughly, JUST to get the price they paid back, plus fees. I listed my card at less than that as a starting bid. Out of the dozen plus watchers, only 2 people actually bid. And no, I did not make "tons of profit" as some would love to believe. The sense of entitlement that some keep spewing out whenever anyone mentions anything about having a card, giving a card to someone, reselling a card, or whatever, is pretty ridiculous at this point. Acting like one person's queue wait is any more or less erk-some than another's, or that I didn't wait almost 2 months to get a card I got in queue for ON launch day, in more than once case, at the very least, is also pretty ridiculous. No one in this thread, to my knowledge, is responsible for mass-scalping hundreds of cards that is part of the reason why we're in this mess to begin with, taking the anger/irritation everyone feels about this out on other people waiting in queue, is pretty ridiculous - seeing a theme I hope. Your opinion of me acting like a leech is your freedom to express, but in reality, in adult land, I'm good, and anyone that does or doesn't use my code is good too - I thank those that do because I think it's only the right thing to do so, I'm happy to be able to provide help when I can give it regardless of whether or not that person uses my code or anything else. I'm happy to be able to provide a code that gives people a discount, regardless of what benefit I get from it, or the fact that it bars me from being able to use a code myself to get the same discount on purchases, I'm cool with that at this point. Why you brought this up again when the entire thread had moved on from it to me shows you wanted to stir up drama, something I'm not keen on and want no part in, so this will be my last post on the matter in this thread.

Thank you for the information. I wasn't going to go through 700 pages to find the answer. Also, searching can be difficult if you don't know the exact terminology to use.

It's very likely at some point, eventually, Hybrid cards will show up at retailers/e-tailers, currently I hope eVGA is holding them to the queue-only system so that they can also control the production numbers better, which means they can allocate more of the dies that would otherwise have to go to higher demand for Hybrid GPUs for regular retailers, to other SKUs. There's no real way of knowing that for sure of course. With the continual delays that happened involving the Hydrocopper blocks/Hydrocopper cards, I think we can expect those to be less-often dropped when they do come around, like the Hybrid cards, so there's less further-dilution of what supply there is, until it actually picks up (if it ever does before we're talking about the RTX 4080 launch in August of 2022).

Enewt does a lot more work informing people, and he doesn't detail how his auctions are going. So they can get the same discount elsewhere. You aren't special there. You display entitlement more than me. Someone else will make that money, so I must put it up for auction. Because you deserve to make money off of strangers over the manufacturers. Cheers.

jehoffman1 I could use some advice. I am building a new computer to replace my 5 year old machine. I have all the parts, except the CPU and GPU. I'm on the EVGA list for a 3060TI or a 3070, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get one soon unless the volume of the drops increases or a retailer gets some in stock. I wanted to get an AMD 5900x for my CPU but they are as scarce as the Nvidia 3000 series GPUs. Today, Newegg had a scramble. I signed up for a 5900x and a 5800x. I did not get a 5900x, but DID get the option to buy a 5800x at MSRP. I need to buy before 7 PT if I want it. Question: Should I buy the 5800x or wait and hope for a 5900x? I'd grab the 5800x if I already had the GPU, but it is a harder decision when I can't finish the computer either way. Does anyone here have any info on the relative performance of the 5800x and 5900x? I'm not a gamer. I do legal work and maintain a couple of websites. None of the programs I use are terribly CPU intensive, but I normally work with several programs at once: Firefox, Acrobat, Photoshop, Bridge, Dreamweaver, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Quicken. Any thoughts?
I would say go for the 5800x in your shoes. If you're not doing CPU-based rendering a lot, you're not going to notice much difference between a 5800x & 5900x. You can always upgrade later if you feel the need to, but I think the 5800x will serve you well enough.
Thanks for the advice, Dabadger84. I don't do a lot of rendering, but I'd certainly be using the GPU for that as much as possible.
I have never upgraded my machines (except to add memory or storage). Normally, I build a new one every 5 years or so and give the old one to a friend for whom it is an upgrade over what he or she has. My current machine has an i7-6700K and a GTX 970. Either a 5900x or a 5800x, and either a 3060 TI or a 3070, should be a substantial upgrade.
Just saw this post with the CPU you currently have. Even if you "only" upgrade to the 5600X, you're looking at extreme performance gains in every metric over your current i7, all while using power much more efficiently. https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i7-6700K-vs-Ryzen-5-5600X https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-5600X-vs-Intel-i7-6700K/3859vs2565 Just something else to chew on! Edit: https://www.pugetsystems....even%20larger%2022%25.
Thanks very much, SirKronan. The information is very helpful. i'll go ahead and buy the 5800x from Newegg. With the short supplies, the old saw "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" is more meaningful than usual. My philosophy has always been to buy close to the top. Usually, when I've bought less, I've been sorry later than I didn't go for the better item. On the other hand, when you go for the very top, you usually pay a big premium for a small increase in quality/utility.

InfusionOfFear Thank you for the information. I wasn't going to go through 700 pages to find the answer. Also, searching can be difficult if you don't know the exact terminology to use.
Yeah, I started with saying it's been discussed before as to not take away from other people who have already responded to this question. I also understand it's extremely daunting to come to a thread with as many pages as this one has to find the answer to your question. I'm glad I was able to shed some light on the situation! Dabadger84 It's very likely at some point, eventually, Hybrid cards will show up at retailers/e-tailers, currently I hope eVGA is holding them to the queue-only system so that they can also control the production numbers better, which means they can allocate more of the dies that would otherwise have to go to higher demand for Hybrid GPUs for regular retailers, to other SKUs.
It would be nice to see the hybrids more widely available when the stock is more consistent across the board. As for now, I'm definitely happy with the fact that these are exclusive to the fans who follow with EVGA in general.

It is irritating when one is waiting for a product in short supply to see someone else buying units at retail price and reselling them at higher prices. But it is not illegal. For those buying a card they don't really want, while they wait for the card they do want, and then reselling the first card at a profit, it is your right to do so. But please understand that talking about it on this forum is very irritating to those waiting for a card who haven't been able to get one. So, how about doing what you want but refrain from posting statements about it that you must know are very irritating to others. It is important to stop the bickering on this forum before EVGA decides it doesn't need the grief and terminates the queue system. The queue system may be far from perfect, but it is much better than is available from other card makers and retailers. We should all be grateful to EVGA for going to the trouble and expense of maintaining the system. While direct sales let EVGA get the retail price rather than the wholesale price, it comes at an expense. It cannot be terribly profitable to maintain the queue and conduct direct sales or the other card makers would be doing the same thing.

Personally I would hope they'll keep the Hybrids similar to Kingpins where the main priority for them is getting them to buyers off the site directly - maybe put them in Micro Centers, but exclude websites that are still very susceptible to (or just plain don't care about) bots. I doubt they'll do that when the time comes, but who knows. I'd say eVGA missed a good chance at some exclusivity with the Hybrid idea in terms of not patenting it first so that others would have to "pay" to use it, but with it involving an Asetek unit, I'm sure they were blocked from patenting the whole having an AIO preinstalled on a card thing as a result. One thing's for sure, after having an air-cooled 3080 FTW3 Ultra for about 2 months in between an 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid & the 3090 - I won't be doing that again anytime soon, I'll just chill & wait for the Hybrid version next time I upgrade. The whole spewing of lava-air all over internal components is not something I want to deal with again, cool as the gigantic air-coolers on some cards look.

This is my associates code. I've only made five posts. I have only ever bought EVGA graphics cards. VVTZTDKFAPQVLZL I don't ask you to use my code to get a discount. Use enewts. I am blown away by how he keeps up with things. Please do not use this other person's code. I think this person does make some good points, but this person is tone-deaf as they come. This person thinks my post count somehow is a metric of my cognitive ability. This person thinks they can leech the queue and rewards benefits. The only information I keep seeing from them is the kingpin fans are trash. Fair play. Don't use my code. Don't use their code. Use enewts or someone else who is giving you valuable information instead of someone figuring they should be profiteering like everyone else.

Thank you for actually making a sound, non-insult, non-complaint ridden argument - posting about the sale was obviously not the smartest thing given how some drama queens react about every little thing they take as bragging etc etc blah blah blah I've said the same thing so many times my head hurts, point I apologize for rubbing some folks the wrong way despite the fact that their primary gripe is likely "OH YOU MADE PROFIT ON RESALE OF A CARD YOU WAITED IN QUEUE FOR AND USED AND OMG WOW" when I didn't. If I had known stating I resold the card would ruffle this many feathers I would've not mentioned it in this thread at the very least, and in hindsight, given how many people threw fits about people posting being happy with their cards, I should've known that would happen, but that's what I get for expecting people to be happy for someone else eh? The heat on this issue has been more than a little over the top, which is why I didn't comment on it further when it seemed everyone had moved on from it, until someone brought it back up.

Let us not forget he who preceded Enewt, one kitty-cat icon known as Nereus, either. They both took and in ENewt's case, continue to take time out of their day to keep people up to date on the queue system, otherwise everyone would be left up to just a community sourced spreadsheet that's apparently been messed with way too many times, I haven't even viewed the thing. In other news: https://www.newegg.com/asus-geforce-rtx-3090-rtx3090-24g-ek/p/N82E16814126485?Item=N82E16814126485&Description=rtx%203090&cm_re=rtx_3090-_-14-126-485-_-Product Look, another bomb-awesome card most of us will never see in stock. Must say the EK block looks awesome... but why is it a 2 8-pin card? lol

This is my biggest gripe. I imagine you thought you were providing information for people. But you lurk here and drop your evga code that benefits you all of the time. You didn't reach out to board members first, you said haha yea EBAY auction! I don't blame anyone for wanting to make some money. I frown at people directly or indirectly bragging about it when their contemporaries are so bummed out about the process. Five posts. 500 posts. Do you think this changes what people think? I'm not freaking out. I am a hopeful buyer, but I am not freaking out. I still get frustrated at the second by second oh my god 17 people just went crash bidding for this card. It is anti this forum. I don't care what you say. You exploited those buyers.

The sole point of Ebay is to sell used things often in an auction. Since when has that ever been a crime!?!?!? The WHOLE POINT of an auction is to let the customer choose how much they are willing to pay for a item, and just because there are tens of thousands wanting a card, its a damn sin to sell a card to someone who will actually put it to good use at a price they CHOSE to bid on it!?!?!? I wish people would get out of their tiny ass bubbles and wake up, the world doesn't revolve around you.
