@ supaflowinz Because EVGA ist telling the loyal customers you are special for us and we want to reward this for sticking with us and thank you for your support and on the other side they give a f... about them. It's a marketing trick nothing more. They have so many people signed up on the queue list now for nothing most of them will never get a card.

I've been keeping track of that over here. You're currently the first in line (on the forums anyway) with that time stamp.

The ridiculous thing about this situation is that next year a lot of ex-mining cards will be flooded onto the market at rock-bottom prices, just like it was the case in 2018. Back then (2017), the most sought-after cards were the AMD Polaris series, for which inflated list prices of up to 500 EUR per unit were also paid. Remember that? The following year, you could get them for less than 100 EUR, and in not bad quality at all, as long as the BIOS was still original. So you just have to be patient. Of course, for someone whose GTX 770 just exploded under the load of AC Valhalla, that's cold comfort, I admit.
Nvidia has pulled the emergency brake with the mining lock, but too late, there are already millions of full-value cards in circulation. As ardy mentioned in this forum, Nvidia is doing it out of pure self-interest to stop the flood of used cards next year. As for me, I'm already looking forward to a used RTX 3080 around 300 EUR. At least the idea helps me to bridge the waiting period. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But it has already happened this way.

I just wouldn't recommend anyone get a used card from someone they don't know/trust. You have to assume every used card was mined to near-death.

I wouldn't count on lowered prices for used cards anytime soon. It may well be 2023 before we see any significant uptick in supply, with all the industries being affected by current shortages.

I completely understand the sentiment behind long-term Elite members and the discount coupons. IMO this should've instead been given to 1+ year Elites with a 9-12 month expiry. That said, had I been Elite before the current coupon scheme was introduced, I wouldn't be bothered by missing out, but YMMV. I've found life is too short to fret over every missed deal.

I don't think it will be 2023 for the used market. The used market is trash thanks to Ethereum mining. One way or another ETH 2.0 or ASIC miners are going to end mining it with GPUs. When that happens, the used market will be flooded with GPUs. Will it be enough to make a dent in the GPU demand? I think it will absolutely have an impact. I think that's going to come towards the end of the year or the beginning of next year. New GPUs... well, that's another story. A huge influx of used GPUs could reduce demand for GPU silicon. But unless demand drops, and I doubt it will, 2023 sounds like a reasonable expectation for things to start to take a turn, but it could take years beyond that to really start to make a marked improvement.

This is not the issue you think. The 3000 series are kind of better for mining way under top than near tdp. A 3070 doing a steady 130 watts with fans at 70% mines better than when it is set to 200 watts with fans at 100% If I was buying used on ebay in Feb 2022 with a six month return period I would not be afraid to buy a cheap 3070 card. A lot of people don't understand how badly this was mismanaged by Nvidia. The cards were too good at msrp. And they did not make enough and they could not step up production of chips. A 3060ti purchased in Nov 2020 Mining at 120 watts and 70% fans has earned over 180 days and over 6 a day or 1080 for a 400 dollar card. So we wait.

I would have a different opinion. If it's an EVGA card, the warranty would even still be valid and transferable. Naturally, only if no modifications have been made. And mining usually hardly reduces the life expectancy of a card. The reason is that the card is constantly running at a constant temperature, which is not the case with gaming. Most defects are caused by load fluctuations, current peaks (which can destroy the power regulators or MOSFETS) and tensile forces on the PCB due to thermal stress. Miners also try to undervolt the cards to save energy. Except for the increased memory clock, I don't see where mining could damage a card. There gaming is much more challenging for your hardware in my humble opinion. But okay, we won't really know until someone does a really good study on the subject. I'm just not aware of any serious work on this, unfortunately. Thus, there will always be different opinions on this topic and it is always up to the personal gut feeling whether someone wants to have a used card.

fdisessa I think we can all agree that these cards are on short supply even though they are sold at a premium. The hard truth is that its very hard for any individual (elite or not) to buy a card because EVGA, ASUS, MSI, etc have far bigger customers like the resellers, builders, and OEMs that easily outweigh any individual customer. 6/3/2021 8:17:04 AM PT No 6/3/2021 8:15:58 AM PT No 6/3/2021 8:14:55 AM PT No 6/3/2021 8:11:47 AM PT No 6/2/2021 5:27:58 AM PT No 6/2/2021 5:27:40 AM PT No 4/29/2021 5:13:04 AM PT No 4/11/2021 12:08:01 PM PT N
