My point is if the cost of converting to either ecosystem is the same then that argument is irrelevant. My argument isn’t that a new payment method would harm security but giving access to making separate storefronts certainly would. I’m fairly versed in dealing with these things in a slightly different context but the core tools used to develop this storefront would have to have pretty fine grain access, especially if it were to have any chance to run as well as apples. This is would be a huge security hurdle and is why most open source platforms are not as secure. I would also push back consumers like the one marketplace that is regulated by Apple and is something they are very willing to engage with and is even considered a bonus to going with Apple. If Apple is compelled to allow anyone to make a marketplace then I expect every console needs to allow people to develop new marketplaces as well.

Tldr: new payments methods not bad (if paying with Apple is still a choice for the customer who wants to), new storefronts bad imo, the cost of converting is a non factor as it’s consistent throughout the industry.

Like with most antitrust discussions, the result is determined by the question: "what is the relevant market?" I would argue that the market is iOS apps. I think you are implicitly saying that the market is smart phone apps. Apple is actually making the argument -- for purposes of this specific case -- that the market is even larger: games marketplaces...i.e., they are asking the court to look at the market as the iOS storefront, the Android app store, Xbox console store and Playstation console store...but in each case only as it pertains to games (not to "experiences" or non-game apps -- this is why you may have seen articles talking about Apple's argument that Roblox is an experience but that Fortnite -- including the Create mode -- includes game mechanics and is, therefore, a game...bunch of reasons why Apple is trying to make this distinction, but I won't bother with them here). 
 
My point about the high -- rationally extreme -- switching costs is part of my determination that for me, as a consumer, the relevant market is the iOS storefront. Full stop.  Android devices (and the resulting app store availability) are not a reasonable alternative for me. YMMV.

It should be a slam dunk case, because the App store is definitely a high barrier to entry (impossible) and holds monopolistic power.  Simply look up the definition, and it's obvious as the nose on your face if you pay attention.  It's also arbitrary on what apps it targets.  It won't be a slam dunk case because people making the arguments in CA will be looking at the state GDP knock it would take losing half (or more) of the App store revenues.

That at least gives a glimmer of hope this week.  You are close enough to be fairly confident of receiving one.  It's been two weeks for that particular card on the sign up queue...far too long.  I've largely discounted his prognostications.   It seems he is required to promise nothing, but keep the heathens happy.  I liken it to the Delphic Oracle pronouncements.  You read what you want out of statement, but are usually disappointed with what the actual truth turns out to be.

Even if mining suddenly becomes nonexistent, there's still the scalper problem. The giant mining operations will simply scalp their own cards onto ebay or another sales front. I think prices will get better, but I don't expect the scalping to stop. I don't know how we can stop it as long as buyers keep showing a willingness to pay Amazon's third party scalper prices, or keep bidding ebay items up so high. Preventing mining or a total crypto market crash would only be the weakest of bandaids to the current gaming market of GPUs. 

 IMO the scalper problem is only because of the miners (not counting the initial new product release), as soon as etherium PoS goes live I'd expect the market to be flooded with used cards if it isn't already flooded after EIP 1559. Any current profitability on other coins will go out the window once you have the massive network hashrate of ethereum migrate to other options. I'm amazed to see people dropping 10k+, after 30 min of research, to build rigs at scalper prices for something that you may never break even on and wont be able to sell the GPUs after words for anything close to what you paid.

I agree and disagree with you.  POS is 7-9 months away.  EIP 1559 won't likely dent demand (3080 is paying $20-25/day right now).  This won't last of course, but 30% drop is still profitable until ETH 2.0.  After that, it is anyone's guess.
 

so, the 3897 is basically dead in the water eh? due to the "potential" release of the 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra? i haven't seen movement on the 3080 since, what, April 27th?
