Wonder what kind of computer needs all this power (excluding miners).

    Miners

183.3 Amps on its single +12V rail

Better call the electrician, time to upgrade your outlet -- going to need a dedicated 20 Amp circuit @ 120V

Great point CoolGTX!  it has 18 6+2 connectors, enough for 9 GPU's depending on what cards....WOW!

This would be a great addition to a new build. Now, what do we do for a UPS? The UPS might weigh 500lbs. Given that, it will need to be determined if two 1200W PSUs are better than this monster. Price should be north of $525, too.

+1.... and your suppose to go to #12 wire and even 10 if its a long run. Getting more expensive by the second, lol. :)

High end miners, and folks that run high-end "deep learning" servers, for 2.

Are we sure this thing can run from 117 VAC?

Dedicated 20 amp 117 VAC outlets aren't all that uncommon - a lot of high-end window A/C units need them - but they're sure not common.
20 amp 117 VAC circuits are more common - usually with at least 2 "duplex" 15-amp outlets on them in kitchens.

i would go to 30amp - you realize that probably won't be the only thing on that line or plug for that matter

while you at it add some more AC - don't need the furnace upgrade you already added one

I'm 100% certain this PS will run on 234 VAC.
Probably the usual 100-240 rated range.

Running this on a 20 amp supply circuit would be risky if you are using it in a miner or something else with a constant high load capacity AND running it near max capacity.
NOT an issue if it is being run at 80% or less of it's max capacity, as that then matches up pretty closely to what a properly derated 24/7 loaded 20 amp power circuit is rated to handle.

I wonder if it's actually rated for 2.2 KW on 117 VAC, or if it NEEDS 234 VAC to reach full capacity (like many server-type power supplies do).

From what I have heard, you need to have a 240 volt outlet just to use it and they didn't show it running as the suite didn't have an outlet that could support it.

+1, one of the youtubers even stated that it requires a 220v circuit, thats alot of current to be pulling from the wall and even it it did run on 120v outlet the wiring in most homes would not support that much load, it would need to be 10AWG at least to keep it from overheating the wire which is never a good thing unless you want to burn the house down.

12 AWG is specified for 20 amp circuits - and is not uncommon in homes, as I've previously mentioned.
More common in business usage though.

On the other hand, you WOULD need 10 if you were planning to run the power supply 24/7 at full rated load - but I doubt the power supply ITSELF would handle that for very long.

Seems like it's an academic point though - there are a few comments floating around that it is specified for 234 volts only, not 117, in the CES reviews that have mentioned it.

Pics somewhere show the spec sticker on the side requiring 200v-240v input. It may have been EVGA's facebook page or something I can't remember.

200-240 Volts - Still need a dedicated circuit added for this PSU, hope you have room in the panel or it gets even more expensive to add a subpanel

Lots of folks don't know about these thinks when buying PSU's higher than 1300w.  IIRC and correct me if I'm wrong, the wiring in ones home and breaker in the states, are standardized to handle up to 1300w.  If ones goes beyond that, you could cook up the wires and start a in wall fire in a worst case scenario.  New outlets, in wall wiring and 20 Amp breaker are needed for this to be done up to standard and for safety reasons.

Use this Associate Code at your checkouts or follow these instructions for Up to 10% OFF on all your EVGA purchases:
