Wishing for a Z490 Classy board to upgrade my Z370 board... but I guess the FTW will do just fine if I was to. the Dark would be amazing but I think it would be outside budget

    Really? Why?

There is basically nothing new, the only difference is that the CPUs have two more cores and that's it.
In comparison to other manufacturers I am not seeing any information about PCIe 4.0, does EVGA support it with the upcoming Rocket Lake CPUs?
    Or is another MoBo required?

Yup, new socket.... Z390 uses LGA 1151 socket, the new Z490 will make use of LGA 1200.

I was thinking I seen an article where some or all of the z490 boards would be PCIe 4.0 with a bios update later on but it might have been something else I was reading.

PCIE 4.0 is supported on some Motherboards I think.
This is a bit fuzzy on all the documentation out there

The Intel Chipset 490 is PCIE 3.0

BUT the Comet Lake CPU does not.
The Rocket Lake cpu will support 4.0

So you could build and swap out CPU's later I suppose.
That may end up being my plan as my PC is now 7-8 years old.
Still runs great but really ready for serious upgrade as I have several
projects I would like to do but really need the added improvement of cores and threads.

I am also hoping to see Intel XE DG2's listed soon as interested in that for the upgrade
    as well

Looks like MSI, AsRock and Gigabyte are supporting PCI-E 4.0 hardware on their boards for future compatiblity with Rocket Lake which will support PCIE 4.0. So far it appears Asus has no hardware support mentioned anywhere in their marketing materials, and EVGA appears to not have any mention of hardware support either. This is a big deal for longevity of the board, future expansion, so you don't need to purchase a new motherboard down the road that just to get the features other vendors are offering now with Z490.

Simple question, do EVGA Z490 boards also have the hardware and will they be supporting PCIE 4.0 with a future BIOS update like the other vendors?

The prices for the z390s are $230 for the FTW, and $500 for the dark, I'd expect prices to be around that for the z490 here as well.

Curious why EVGA is avoiding TB3 in their mobos. It's a technology that's around to stay, and compatible with USB3.

Key specs say "• PCI Express® 3.0 Ready" I wonder if it is a typo and should read PCI Express 3.0 / 4.0 Ready

Probably because EVGA makes Enthusiast boards, and Thunderbolt is for Mac Wannabes, Joking. I guess it would make good for content creators, and musicians. I for one wanted to get a TB Interface, but ended up keeping my Firewire interface and getting a PCIe Firewire card. I'm due for a new interface but want to get low latency. I contemplated on a Nu Audio card, but I'm not sure if it will suit my recording needs. I wish someone would create a motherboard for musicians, and content creators. I have like 10 sound devices

Anyone else notice the Dark is a z490 ATX board with just 2 dimm slots? Are they saying people should use 2 x 8gb stick and stay at a max of 16gb or spend more for 16gb and 32gb sticks? And if they want to put 2 dimms why not make it micro or mini-itx? seems like a waste to only have 2 dimms on an atx board.

It's a gimmick. It's NOT anywhere close to the same as a standalone NU Audio card. It's just onboard realtek audio with a couple extra capacitors or something. Total marketing gimmick.

I was ready to get interested.  I had read Internet fu instead of data sheets.  So here fresh from Intel's site, a comparison of Z490, Z390 and X299.

And I weep.  I had much higher hopes for Z4-- series.  I have a shiny, new X299 mATX 2, still looking for a CPU.  I bought it for the quad channel memory and extra lanes.  Specs wise, for what I want right now, the Z490 offers nothing new.  To be totally honest, I do want a new game system.  Z390 stock seems to be rapidly disappearing.  Decisions decisions ...

I really like this new Z490 FTW, I'm in love. I would like to see a right-angled 24 pin ATX power connector on this board too.

z999z3mystorysThe prices for the z390s are $230 for the FTW, and $500 for the dark, I'd expect prices to be around that for the z490 here as well.

I wish I'll be wrong but given the improvements (VRM, wifi, RGB, second monitor on FTW, ...) I wouldn't be surprised that prices go up
