I just upgraded my 2x SLI 970s to a single 1080ti in my x58 rig and here are some fun facts: - Ranked in the 90th percentile of all 3dmark results.
- Ranked #4 of all 1080ti / X5680 combo results. (this includes dual CPU SR2 results)
- Ranked #1 of all 1080ti / X5680 combo results. (not including the 3 SR2 guys above me who get extra CPU points in the bench with the extra CPU)
- I see little to no performance hit running the 1080ti on this platform
I could probably beat the dual cpu SR2s if I push my cpu to 4.8+, but i have a nice chip and i don't want to torture it beyond 1.4v right now. I also made a build log video if anyone is interested in that sort of thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXZb_ZsagQ0&t=1410s

This is just awesome. What a fantastic build despite it being the old X58 chipset.

lol.. Thanks, I just cant justify putting it to rest with the performance being where its at. I just ordered another 12gb of Dominator (to see if I can get it stable with 24GB)

Nice Setup! Seeing all this X58 action going on lately made me take mine out and get it running again. My board is a EVGA x58 3x Classified 3. Got my W3680 running at 4.6ghz at 1.411v and a NB speed of 4ghz. Memory is at 1.65v 1630mhz 36gb of it. My video card in it right now is a gtx 1060 6gb. This thing still shreds through stuff. I really do miss how much ahead of time this chipset is amazing. Cant wait to see you push yours a bit more with more memory. My 3Dmark firestrike score: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/33104630

Cool! I just ordered another 12GB to see if i can get my overclock stable with 24GB. My RAM is running around 1800mhz 8-9-8-24 at the moment. I really wish i could run the 12x ram multiplier as my Corsair Dominator sticks are all rated for 2133mhz. What RAM are you running?

I have Corsair Vengeance 3x8 kit and a 3x4 kit. Both rated to run cas9 1600mhz. I have not played to much with raising the speed but I have played with timings once. was able to 8-8-8-24-107 but I would start crashing at over 26gb of ram usage. Since it could not pass it i backed it back down to 9-9-9-24-107. I am pretty happy with it right now but I might play some with the speed. Here are the kit SKU's. (12gb 3x4gb, CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9) and (24gb 3x8gb, CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9).

I was running 3x4gb (12GB) 9-9-9-27-107 1.64v rock stable, but it seems as soon try and populate the other ram slots I get disappearing ram. Ex. if i put 4x4gb (16gb dual channel) the bios will only see 8GB. Worst comes to worst i guess I can sell all 6 of these sticks and buy 3x8gb (24gb) 1866 Vengence, but i would prefer to run the Dominator (I like the heatsinks, lol).

In my experience I would narrow down if its the sticks or not so do mem tests on each stick or you can run one 3 at a time to narrow down quicker. Also I have had it on my evga x58 ftw 3 board would not play nice with my 6 sticks I am currently using. It would do kind of the same thing as you describing. Mine would just not detect the higher gb sticks. I would also make sure to update to the latest bios if you haven't also sometimes resting the bios if you have the newest one already can sometimes clear out some issues. It may not make to much sense to clear issues like that but I have had it work for me before. The last thing I could say is some CPU's memory controller just don't like be fully populated. I have newer x99 and even x299 systems that will not run well with fully populated memory slots. I hope this helps a little. This is all purely my experience in pushing things beyond intended specs.

Reporting back on Operation 24GB upgrade. Nailed it (not going to lie, i was worried). Here is how it went down: - I was using 3 of the 4 sticks from this kit for my 12GB originally: CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 16GB (4x4GB) CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 (9-11-10-27 @ 2133) (overkill i know, but I had timing plans for them later)
- Bought another kit of CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 16GB (4x4GB) CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 (Cost $110)
Set RAM multiplier to 2:8 to drop mem speeds way down, pop 3 sticks from the new kit in. BIOS reads 20GB (???) Boot to W10, W10 reads 24gb (with 4GB in "hardware reserve"). Lucally i have played this VERY frustrating game for many hours previously when i was trying to get my 12GB set to work (Hint: its not the OS, its not the BIOS version or bios corruption). Bent socket pins and bad CPU-to-pin contact can cause this, but I know my pins are pristine... Thinking this might be an issue with the Xeon MEM Controller dealing with 6x overclocked sticks I tried various combos of voltages and bios tweaks, NOTHING worked! Then I remembered from my previous missing RAM battle, the last thing you would ever think. RAM STICK COMBOS! No, not a bad ram stick, just the motherboard has a weird, in-explainable preference for what ram sticks are in what slots! Popped one stick out, replaced with another, BAM 24GB in BIOS and 24GB available in OS. The end result: 4.6GHZ Rock stable (6-hour OCCT, 90% RAM ALL cores) RAM @ 1.65v 1804MHZ at get this 8-9-8-24-96-1T timings (this is why i went for these 2133 GT sticks -- I figured they would run tight timings at lower speeds)! Once again this board DELIVERS. 24GB @ 8-9-8-24-96-1T is quite sufficient for me at this time! Even with my 1080ti/ Chipset/ and MB VRMs in the loop, my full load temps are around 62C, however, I'm thinking of dropping back to 4.4GHZ to get me back to 1.4V Core where I feel no chip degradation will occur (not like the CPU would cost much to replace, but I don't want to have to pull the rig apart again, that would suck). It looks like my chip OC:Voltage curve is shaping up to something like: Speed VCORE VTT OCCT BCLK4.4GHZ 1.4V +125 (1.375v) YES 177 4.5GHZ 1.425 +150 (1.4v) YES 181 4.6GHZ 1.45 +150 (1.4v) YES 1854.7GHZ *1.475 (untestested) NA 189 4.8GHZ *1.5 (untestested) NA 193 4.9GHZ *1.525 (untestested) NA 197 5.0GHZ *1.55 (untestested) NA 201 *= Estimated What would you do? The RAM is rates to 2133mhz If the temps stay under 70c full load would you run 24/7 @1.45? Higher? lol I'm curios.

1,45v will probably work on custom loop 2x 5680 185x25 1,38 volt, 1,35VTT, IOH 1,3v, HT off. 1,45 is a bit too high for 4600mhz, but all cpus are diffrent. try lowering cpu volt and test diffrent IOH and VTT and ram settings. X58 is fast so 4500mhz or more is really good.

For me I found 4.5 at 1.4v is the sweet spot as to not stress the cpu more then I should for daily use. I was able to recently bump mine up when I temperately put it on better custom loop cooling instead of the AIO I was using. So I set it at 4.7ghz at 1.45 stable. So I did some real life testing as in games and so on that would be more cpu intensive and the difference was with in margin of error. Even in games that are more IPC reliant more then core count and still the difference was with in margin of error when compared to 4.5ghz. I also ran some software for video encoding and decoding speed's, also not to much of a difference at best it increased my videos to finish at best 24sec faster. Also most the software these days use gpu so its not super important anyway. So in conclusion since you ram is kicking butt I was knock the speed down to 4.4-4.5 with as close to 1.4 as you can be for long term. I am kinda jealous of the ram timings and speed. I just really don't want to spend the money again to grab better ddr3 memory when I am trying to hook up my newer pc's with more ddr4 memory for game design.

Well... after a few days of testing Looks like I settled in @ 4.5ghz. Here is a read-only link to my overclocking google sheet with the setting that were tested: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U54_N-K5a1FY9W1Z9rEouuyb-JxTUxENoGFggQdcFEc/edit?usp=sharing It might be possible to stabilizer 4.6 but at a considerable voltage cost; chips wants nothing to do with 4.7 lol Any tips out there... Anything I'm missing? Anything i can do to squeeze some more TimeSpy points out of it, lol (QPI link etc)

To be honest my chip is a wonder chip. For me I wanted to get all clocks as fast and stable as possible. My w3680 lets me keep a lower Bclk because of a high multiplier so I can push it pretty good. I have had it boot and run one cinebench r15 at 4.8ghz. Voltage was at 1.486v and temps hit 88-91c real quick. But it scored really well lol. But for what I am doing different I would say maybe a good chip and the fact I am working with a w3680 and not the x cpus. Other than that I could when I get a chance take a picture of my voltage and other setting in bios to see if that can help you a bit. The only thing is at this point I think you have done a pretty good job with finding balance with yours and it probably wont get you and gain haha.

SR-2 , 4.5ghz 1.34v, VTT 1.27, IOH 1.27v. Seems that 4500mhz is the highest mhz on low volt for me to. So 4500mhz is probably the sweet spot. 4600-5000mhz needs much more volt

No heavy workload on this maschine so working ok. But in summer down to 4500mhz 1,34-1,35v.

Any info on how this runs at 1440p/4K in comparison to newer processors. I got a 1080 Ti too and I'd like to know how much I'm losing on X58. Also got some issues on 3D
