Still no S3 resume on my Rev 1.0 board.

After getting tired of the S3 resume problems, I bought an Intel SSD. Now it boots fast enough that S3 is no longer a priority.

Is it possible to RMA the E758 due to the S3 faulty hardware?

Re:EVGA X58 SLI (E758) - SZ2X BIOS Released Tuesday, November 24, 2009 6:02 PM (permalink)
I just flashed to this BIOS VIA CD. I had a BIOS that was not on the list. (I heard they took it out due to problems) I never HAD a problem but thought that this "new" bios would give me better stability and performance. However, I have seen worse stability, and now have the "Double pump" Where when I turn the computer on it turns on...Then shuts back down and boots back up. What is up with this ? I seem to allways have problems with my EVGA motherboards.

ALSO, It seems that whenever I unplug the main power cable from the PSU and then plug it back in that it ALWAYS double pumps. If I leave it pluged in it never seems to double pump.

My Board is a REV 1.1

MY Rig is

EVGA X58 SLI A1 REV 1.1

I do not use S3, So i'm not sure if that is working or not. My main concern is the double pump that I never had a problem with, until I flashed to the newest bios. IS there any BIOS that dosent do the double pumping?

I am still using SZ2S and have the double pump, but only when I physically turn off the power.  To me this is not a big issue, as that only happens if I have to open up my case to move anything around.  If I power down and power up (leaving PSU physical power switch on), I do not get the double pump.  Maybe I am missing something, but why is the double pump a problem?

Also, I have noticed that if virtualization is enabled in the BIOS, when I restart, my board completely powers down and powers back up.  I am not sure when that started, but it is not a huge deal.  However, I do see this as a bit more of a pain than the double pumping issue as it does slow down reboots when installed new drivers, etc.

I currently have a rev 1.0 board, which was sent as an RMA for my rev 1.1 board.  And, I had both issues with the 1.1 board as well.  Of course, I have no S3 issues with either.

Re:EVGA X58 SLI (E758) - SZ2X BIOS Released Thursday, November 26, 2009 10:07 PM (permalink)
Hello all,
I was trying to flash my bios and followed all of the directions, however, I've been unsuccessful. I burned the "E758_SZ2X.iso" image to a CD via Nero. Turned computer off, reset cmos, powered up, pressed esc to choose to boot from CDROM. When I did that I got a box that said "no bootable files located" .. or something really close to that. I've tried this twice. The first time the system automatically restarted. I cleared the cmos afterwards, but the bios seemed to not have changed. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

I already lost my raid through the process of reseting (don't know why).. so I'm a bit frustrated at this point.

Board number is "132-BL-E758-A1"

System information states that the BIOS Version/Date is: Pheonix Technologies, LTD 6.00, 3/4/2009
SMBIOS version 2.5.

Thanks in advance.

The answer is on page number 2 of this thread. Make a habit of reading (at least the thread you are posting on). Reading typically only has one side effect: Leads to better knowledge and enlightenment!

Thanks for the reply.
I had read the whole thread.  I'm not the type to ask without searching first. I had burned the iso correctly and afterwards I had set my raid back up to how it was, but one of the two disks was no longer seen as a raid member when Matrix detected them.. I don't know what happen.

My main problem is the flashing process not happening after attempting to boot from the cd. (I had followed the same image burning process via nero burning rom that was specified on the second page.) Does anyone have similar experiences and a couple things to try for the flash to work?

Thanks.

Edit:  IS there any confirmation of a complete flash? What is usually displayed when flashing this board? Sorry to seem like a complete noob, but I'm not that experienced with BIOS flashing. I usually follow the "If it's not broke, don't fix it" phrase when it comes to the BIOS, however, there's quite a few changes that I like - Particularly to Smart Fan.

There is a very good animation of the flash writing and verifying the flash cells. So, you can't miss that. At the end it beeps and asks you to hit a key to restart the machine. So, if none of this happened, it means you did not flash.

I am still betting that you haven't burned the ISO correctly. You have to burn it as an image and not as a file i.e. if you open the burnt disk in Windows Explorer, you MUST not see a ISO file there.

Lol, Lam_das,

I made sure I downloaded the correct image; Opened up Nero burning rom, popped a blank CD in; chose Recorder -> Burn Image -> Chose the .iso file, and burned the image. Now unless something terribly went wrong, I'm sure it's burned. (In explorer the CD is seen as a CDFS, and I can't actually see any files on the CD when I explore it. .. Not sure if that's right. I  have all Hidden/Protected Files being shown)

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Forget Nero, it's ****, download ISO Recorder from here http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Once it is installed you may have to restart, otherwise navigate yourself to the folder containing the ISO, right click it and select "Copy Image to CD" let it do it's thing, reboot, make sure that boot priority is set to the DVD Drive and then let it do it.

Re:EVGA X58 SLI (E758) - SZ2X BIOS Released Friday, November 27, 2009 8:52 PM (permalink)
I've been trying to update my bios for a few weeks now with no results and so far no solution from support. I have tried every method available, CD,Flooppy, and USB.

What happens is that when the system boots to any of these methods I see the  - Starting DR-DOS - message and then nothing. I've let the system sit there for about 15 minutes and nothing happens. I just picked up this board about 2 months ago and it has IX58CZ2D bios installed and I would love to update. I get occasional blue screens and all of my Win7 (Final) drivers and software is up to date. I'm hoping that the bios update will help.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I had the same problem, where I couldn't tell if the iso image re-programmed the BIOS or not.  I had never seen an EVGA BIOS being reprogrammed before, and I couldn't even tell which version I had.  My bootup sequence is so fast that the monitor wasn't lit by the time the BIOS ID had printed and moved to the next screen.

It turned out that my new Plextor PX-880SA DVD burner had  firmware that wasn't quite right.  So the burner would say it was done, but the burned copy was "maybe" ok and "maybe" not.  I downloaded the newest firmware from PlextorAmerica, loaded it, re-burned with Nero Burning Rom (iso image, not the other) and things are fine now.

If I try to boot from plain vanila CDROM on my system it always fails. It turns out I have to set the BIOS boot order and select my HD-DVD-XYZ-123 (my DVD drive) as the first boot device. Can't do CDROM on my system, even though I only have one optical drive.
