Still trying to decide.. ASUS Extreme or EVGA Dark.... I mean I guess Armory crate will still crash and be useless no matter what ASUS board.. Decisions... I suspect the first one I can buy I will go for lol

What does the extreme improve or differ from the formula?

2 more power phase..(18 vrs 16)... passive MB cooling vrs fan in board. Hopefully more stability. That said.. kinda stable since august

Extreme also has more "value add" features like beefed up audio, better passive cooling, backplate, fan and rgb controller, etc. The formula is the same thing as the hero board but with oled screen and useless vrm block. It may have better memory overclocking layout too in addition to their dynamic oc switcher feature. These boards aren't really ever "worth it" but it does have some new and/or improved features taken from the dark hero.

Mine was delivered today but I’m waiting on my optimus block for the kingpin because I don’t want to do tubing twice. My asus dark hero hasn’t been bad, chipset only hits around 50C under gaming loads but my ram has been incredibly finicky above DOCP and the performance has changed with almost every bios update. Really just have always wanted a dark board and this was my first chance since z390

I've redone my tubing a few times, though I have soft tubing vs hard, honestly not too bad, though will be doing thorough cleaning of my rads and cpu block this weekend when I install my new x570 dark and t2 1600w The Kingpin hc block is pretty free flowing compared to optimus blocks so I will leave that one alone since I eventually want to nab an optimus block myself for it next year Anyone familiar with cleaning radiators, and know an easy and simple method of getting them cleaned out? I'm still a beginner at this stuff 😆 🤣

Ya I’m using soft tubing now because I told myself last December that I would have a water block for my hybrid soon and I’m trying to stick with my plan to switch to hardline tubing. For radiator cleaning if it’s not terrible I use primochills stuff and it seems fine. loop cleaner if it’s really not bad, their radiator treatment if they’re new or not great.

How do you clean the rad, fill it up and let it soak? Run water through it to flush it? Edit- I have a Hardware Labs GTR 360 and GTS 360 I'm keeping in, taking out my SR2 360 since don't really need more then the other 2 lol

If you want to leave it all hooked up to the loop, the loop cleaner mixes with just water and you run the loop for 24hrs with it in place of coolant and then rinse and replace with coolant. The rad treatment is a sit and soak for 30ish mins outside the case and then flush with water. I’ve had good luck with both

Think I'll use the rad soak for 30 minutes when I take my whole pc apart Edit- also will take apart my cpu block and both reservoirs to clean off the vortex breakers and check for gunk on the pumps

For my second rig I almost went Dark Hero... glad I did not. Sorry you had issues. I could not get one and ended up going Asrock X570 Thachi Croma to pair with my Razer build stuff. Oddly that second rig is even more stable then my main rig.. and supposedly the ASrock board is "lower end". These issues, and reading about them, and my issues with Armory Crate, are why I am still on the fence and will likely seriously consider the EVGA X570 Dark if I get a chance at one. Armory crate is pretty much tied to the ASUS motherboard for me due to how I use lighting and update utility software. The only thing I will miss is the Tiny LED screen for stats.

Remember the Crosshair VIII Extreme has that dreaded ALC4082 codec, it was reported to have tons of problems whoever had the new ALC4000 series Audio chip. It's on Apex XIII too MSI X570S Ace Max as well, just google the issues of that chip. Here's Reddit thread and then Igor's lab piece on it, doesn't have much info. I'm glad that EVGA avoided that. It's also using USB system for DAC not the usual HDA.

You'd need a fan controller like the commander pro or such. The headers on the boards all need to be adjusted in the bios.

Can’t you do all that just in the bios? On asus boards you can I have all the mb controlled fans set to a package or/and cpu temp curve. Other case fans I use software from the fan manufacturer.

There is no software for fan control in windows, but since most of my fans atm is lian li uni fans I don't have issues there, but controlling my pumps is harder lol Edit- forgot to mention that future plan is to put 6 noctua 3k rpm fans on my HL 360 GTR I will need to get a fan controller hub to power em plus this mobo doesn't have temp sensor header so another reason to get 3rd party hub

If you like to set fans to the sporadic temp of the cpu or none changing temps pch or sys, or you could use your m.2 ssd backside temp, didn't know that the thermal pad set that came with board was for the mobo side of the m.2 slots, though I didn't know whether my 980 pro was single side or dual side memory chips What I want is to set fan curve aka my pumps to water temps
