Hi guys, So I am quite upset right now. I went ahead this morning and took apart my 3090 for pads and paste replacement. To my suprise 2 of the electrolytic capacitors peeled off with the thermal pad when i took it apart. I dont understand how that is even possible... I made sure to be extremely gentle when prying open the heatsink. This is not my first GPU teardown and I have done this before without any issues... Now I am wondering what are my options. I believe EVGA will not cover this under warranty since it is probably considered as "user incident". The capacitors legs are still on the PCB but I have got nothing sticking out from the caps, so resoldering them is not an option. Maybe capacitor replacement? Anybody have any idea on how to proceed? I believe EVGA doesnt provide repair services? Thank you

Wow thas nuts and unheard of!!! Never seen that happen before. Did the card work prior? Ya did test it right? I think they have a repair service.. Forsure call them and explain what happened. Just don't make sense as a thermal pad should not of been touching those.

Yeah the card was working fine. Althought it was overheating, hence the reason why I wanted to replaced the pads.

Yeah cause it seems like a defect when built. Cause if he slipped with the heatsink it would of caused the same damage on the other side of the card as well.
I'd say defective caps.

Or excess putty on the vrms was around those caps and took then off with the heatsink.

There isn’t thermal pads, paste, or putty on those capacitors, so removing the pads and putty shouldn’t have caused those to come off. I don’t think I have ever seen those capacitors just pop off like that, so definitely reach out to support through phone, or at support@evga.comIf you are outside of the US, please make to specify your region so the correct region can assist you best.

True.. but wondering if the putty on the vrms was put on too thick and it was squeezed out and hitting the caps.. and maybe the excess putty pulled those caps out with the heatsink.

Unfortunetly I dont have picture from before.
Now that I am comparing pictures from what it should be been. I can tell I had an extra strip of pad on my caps. For some reaosn the last 2 caps came off without any force with the pad, as if they were just sitting there.
I might have got a refurbished card with a botched job. I am not sure how im gonna fight that one with EVGA. Might have a 2k$ paperweight here.

Yup.. can be fixed if one has those caps and a hot air station and high heat resistance tape and skills.

Work with EVGA before going third party repair. Be specific and explain what happened and ask if they can replace the card for you under warranty. If they are not able to, then research third party repairs.

It's interesting that the cap next to the ones that detached is also not aligned correctly with the PCB and is rotated.

I done lot repairs with caps and that is defective caps from manufacturer should have never come lose but there is always a first time or second time. Call EVGA show thread and explain how you went about it in detail.
