For a card that should be around $700 this is why I am in no rush. I have my EVGA RTX 2080 so I am not worried but somebody messed up the launch real bad,

There is a user on the NVidia forums that wrote a script that creates EBay accounts, and immediately bids astronomical prices on every RTX 3080 auction, and then goes dormant causing the auction to fail.

I have seen all kinds of BS in eBay etc. Makes me more cynical.

A $699 card for over $2000 is highway robbery at its finest

Seems like the script is working and if he shared it with others it could be hard for eBay to stop.

I personally liked on the live stream on Thursday Jacob saying they would have trim options available in a few weeks for those who don't want a card with the red trim. That makes it seem like stock is going to improve quickly to the point that they can offer a choice.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

A 3080 is actually a perfect single card fit for a 1440p monitor....now a 3090 on the other hand is not necessary for 1440p ....

Yeah. Steve from GN made a comment during his OC livestream the other day that basically ever game they had tested other than RDR2 was hitting 140+ @ 1440P(in what I assume was high settings).

My PC and my TV are both 4K which seems to be the world right now.

I am really shocked at the mess of the RTX 3080 launch. To call it a fiasco pales in the face of the auctions.

Shopping bots suggest awareness of a short supply?

Depends on what you have already.  As a super owner, it'll take me from average of 90fps / 1440p Ultra settings to 144fps.   Definitely not a waste of money for me

Probably a waste for Kevin though, as he has a 2080ti that he overclocks using a small nuclear power plant.

For $70,000 I could be driving a nice car and still have lots of cash left.

To call this outlandish is all I could think of. The insanity is enough for nut house.

It has come to my attention that NVIDIA is now going to use a CAPTCHA to block bots from buying cards

I hope that NVIDIA is aware that many forms of CAPTCHA have been beaten as witnessed by forum spammers

phpBB has had it rough with spammers

Listen, I have a GTX 970 and an ancient i7-2700k. I need an all new build desperately but hell will freeze over before I buy a 30 series from a scalper. If I waited this long I can wait a little longer. Let bots screw over the scalpers I say!

The guy who won the bid is most likely just faking bids to prevent the cards from selling, check out his history in bids.
    https://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=254722518463&bidtid=2678135790015&_trksid=p2471758.m4792

He only put 1 bid on that card, so he most likely just set a super bid that would mean someone wouldn't buy it lol

He bid on 15 different cards.

Re: EVGA RTX 3080 outlandish auction 2020/09/24 03:35:15 (permalink)
I guess I look at this differently to some extent.  I was a seller on Ebay from well let's say Ultima Online was still a new MMO and I finally quit a few years back.  Oh and I never sold "new" well anything.... so I wasn't ever a scalper.  A few of my used gpu's did get caught up in mining crazes but that's as close as it gets.

To me It just shows the "scalpers" aren't that great at scalping.  They don't know how to use ebay seller tools/filters on who can bid.

Plus who the hell uses auction mode...  I mean sure you can get a bidding frenzy and the last few minutes used to be the biggest jump.  Since I used to also buy quite a bit of things on Ebay... as a buyer I filter out auctions.  Why?  Because to be blunt quite often the seller has someone pushing the bid and I'm not interested.   Or as a seller a week goes by and then your winning bidder doesn't pay.  So to me the "prize" would be a quick turn around and profit... which is a buy now auctions.  You can even turn on the make offer option and auto reject any offer under a certain amount and auto accept any offer over a certain amount.  That way if you aren't around when a good offer comes in you don't miss it.  Dragging an auction out with bids... well you best hope that product doesn't come into stock while the auction drags out.

Obvious as consumer the solution is nobody buys these.  The problem is somebody always does....

I wish eBay would take a real stance against this kind of thing. It would be very helpful.
