So, what's under that EVGA flange?

Mini PCIE

Thanks!  Can you also comment on danny.nguyen's "no wi-fi"? .. although I don't see any leads or antenna mounts, but perhaps, the I/O space in front of the battery is not going to go unused?

Is that a Thunderbolt port on the back of the board? If so, then I think EVGA has come up with the ultimate hackintosh board...
Please tell me that the MSR isn't locked on your boards though...
And yes, I really just signed up to comment on this board, as it's insane!

welcome to the forums :)

no thunderbolt ports on the board ... we found out from jacob on that matter a couple months ago ...

Not seeing any reason to switch from my Asrock Z77E ITX yet but hopefully once the board gets closer to release I can justify it for a reason besides the badge.

Thanks!

In what is likely going to be a significant area w/o any opening on the I/O shield (area roughly in front of the battery), is it possible to
(A) make a small opening to route an e-SATA/USB3.0 cable from outside to inside
AND/OR
(B) some sort of provision to mount antennae (if one is to put a WiFi card into mPCIe slot)
?

The regular full x16 3.0 PCIe at the bottom will take any graphics card, it is backward compatible.

As for the miniPCIe slot, you'll need an adapter to fit regular PCIe x1 cards.  Just so you know, the market for these adapters are businesses, not enthusiasts; that's not why they are expensive, rather the market isn't paying out of pocket.

Short background, FYI:
  • In 2004, the smaller x86 company called "VIA" invented the miniITX form factor for customers wanting something smaller than mATX, they have since invented many other smaller boards (nanoITX and picoITX).
  • Not until 2008 did Intel start making boards with their Atom CPU, intending to compete with VIA's then new Nano processors for the growing HTPC and Netbook market.  All the while, other Intel companies (and many smaller ones you may not have heard of) have been using mobile Core 2 sockets for other markets, none overclockable though.
  • From 2009 on up, vendors like Gigabyte, Asus, and Zotac have been making somewhat overclockable miniITX with LGA775 and LGA1156 sockets, so the ITX enthusiast market was growing.
  • Here we are after another two years for EVGA to jump on the bandwagon.
I've been watching the miniITX get popular since I first found out about them back in 2006 or so, back then they were still very new, many processors were soddered onto those boards (many still are) and while others used mainly mobile sockets (now both desktop and laptop).  But you won't find high-end sockets, not an issue of size, rather the market is too thin = expensive.  Shuttle made a minibox for X58 and X79, the resulting board is just 8"x10", smaller than mATX but bigger than mITX-- and the board costs north of $400.  Like I said, market is thin.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

The 3x 4-pin fan connectors is a nice touch, also the bluetooth.

As for the mPCIe slot, didn't think you could do much with those except WiFi & SSD cache.  But apperently you can add a celluar card, tv tuner, more SATA ports, or hack it for another PCIe 1x slot.  I'm just going to leave mine empty for the time being.

I see a HDMI port, but what is with the mini display port?  For this board, I'm going to need a VGA connection as the DVI & HDMI ports on the monitor are used up.

Probably because the board itself is based on an OEM style PCB design and that gap is where the DVI/VGA port was spaced to go would be my guess.

Impressive.  You just gave me an idea for a folding farm.  I wonder if the EVGA mITX comes with 2x LAN ports?  I now know the EVGA's board, I will be able to fit a double slot GPU.  This GT420 for folding is murdering me, 3 days to finish a WU.  I'm thinking maybe a GTX550 Ti will replace it soon after EVGA mITX release.  Or a 600 series if a core version comes out for them.

Hey JacobF, I was wondering if you would have the specs for this board such as: What kind of RAM can it use such as max memory, speed, pins, etc. and I also want to know if the PCI is 8x or 16x, it looks like 8x based off the color, but I wanted to make sure. Also what kind of CPU socket is it? More specs if possible, but that is what I need right now.

I believe it is PCI 3.0 x16 from appearance
it will support 1155 Socket CPU's as it is the Z77 Chipset

Any 1155 Socket CPU?

to my understanding with the exception of a BIOS flash to acct for future CPU's ... but it will be safe to wait for EVGA's Compatability listing to know for sure what they have and haven't tested

AFAIK It will be backwards compatible like the other Ivy 1155 series boards.  However SB chips will lose some of the boards features like PCIe 3.0, it will simply just run at 2.0 specs is all.
