Hello EVGA fans,

Since i will be getting a new GPU soon, i have decided on GTX 780, however i have been reading lots of reviews and still confused which one would do better.

Lastly i came up to this idea that if i get EVGA 780, i will get more performance from factory overclock + if i give it an overclock. With Asus, things are a bit different - run quieter and cooler, but would that mean a higher overlock?

The ACX cooler looks like a great choice, has awesome shiny design, double bearing and the great 12 year warranty however if i overclock the ASUS 780 with DirectCU, can it go higher than a EVGA 780 with ACX cooler?

I am looking for best performance out of GTX 780, not about running it quiet and cool. Please can you help me decide?

I would say get a GTX 780 classy unless the few extra bucks is absolutekly too much. It seems to be one of the very best with significantly higher oc numbers than either of these for less than 40 bucks more. There is a good review comparing them on hardware canucks which compares the max core and ram frequinces obtained and also shows the bench results.

Go with the classified EVGA model. You'll get great performance, good technical support after the sale and of course the very best forum.

Yeah, thanks, I was thinking about the same - to get EVGA 780 Classy, but my friend was just throwing me off that the DirectCU from Asus will be quieter and will give me more performance when overclocking.

I have personally tested a 780 Classy ACX, the clocking was awesome, it stay cool, that ACX cooler is really excellent as well.  It did not seem loud to me.  And with the EVBot, it gets that much better (which is how I got the high clocks I got).

I've got 3 classifieds. Trust me. They are worth it... :D

And you've got a lot more overclocking potential with the Classy vs. the DCII with the custom PCB and extra VRM's.

If you've got some good air flow in your case you can get some very impressive numbers with the Classy.

They are made for extreme cooling and record setting after all :D

I just got two eVGA GTX 780 SC w/ACX and I must say, they're great. Classifieds can only be better, I was going to pick up a pair of Classifieds but didn't really want to waste the extra $$$ on something I'm going to watercool and overclock anyway (same or better performance).

I disagree compare water cooled classy to water cooled sc and there is a difference in the classys favor.

Yeah that doesn't make any sense?
Classifieds will definitely perform better than a SC.

I was also thinking to get GTX 780 Classified w/ hydro copper waterblock and do a customized watercooling loop, but when we talked it with my father, we decided that is too risky and doesn't give lots of headroom anyway for overclocking so i just gonna go with maybe closed loop (H100i) just for my CPU and leave the GTX 780 Classy with the ACX...

How did yo come to the conclusion that it doesn't give lots of headroom for overclocking?

What makes 780 classifieds throttle is hitting 80C. With watercooling they won't hit 80C and you can pump up to 1.8 volts into it and have massive gains.

Well, if i really wanna overclock seriously, getting to 0 degrees (C) or below is more like worth, since in the end, you always end up having temperature that limits you. I am sure that yes watercooling will get me like 20 degrees or something lower than a air but what isnt really much, and having to worry for leaks over that 20 degrees... Nah i wouldnt risk it when i never done iit before.

A closed loop is kinda more like first to go with and then advanced to custom loops or phase -hange cooling... However, i trust that the ACX will keep me below that 80 degrees C until i dont get it around 1200 mhz gpu clock and i will look for 4.5 on my cpu (i7 4930k)

1.8v is WAAY too high for water cooling... I definitely would not recommend this... However the rest of this post is correct. Watercooling will help with stopping the 80 throttling point and the limitation would then likely become your chip rather than the temps.

There is definitely a substantial improvement with the classifieds under water, after all this is what they were built for not air. If you are going to go with an Air cooled system, get a FTW card.

Secondly, if you think the complexity of water-cooling is troublesome, why even consider phase? It's significantly harder and more expensive, you now have to deal with condensation as you are going to have a below ambient temp block on your CPU/GPU, so everything has to be greased up, so really the risk is heavily increased when using phase.

That's not to say when done correctly phase isn't incredible, because it is. It's just much more complicated than water. I'd consider doing a water loop before thinking about going phase. :D

Alright, can I know the max overclock (ACX Cooler) if someone has tried to overclock the GTX 780 Classy?
Obviously after closed loop comes the custom loop and in the end, phase change...However, since I have been only air cooling untill now, i am not really prepared to jump and do a custom watercooled system...
I also read that review on Amazon saying that the memory is not capable to be overclocked. Any ideas? Here I will quote it:

''...Also the GDDR5 ram on these cards has been switched to a lower quality non overclockable ram in the latest builds. EVGA claims its due to a shortage but I can't trust anything they say anymore. The whole point of this card is overclock potential, which if you buy it now, there is none. Save some money and just get an ASUS version of the card. ''
