Bummer. Thanks for posting the full GPU-Z readout, IMHO you are definitely pounding a 440w limit.

I have a strix 3090 arriving Wednesday... wondering if I should keep it instead of the 3090 FTW3 since we haven't heard anything, the XOC bios seems to work on it, and there's more watercooling availability for it as well....

Kevin, I hear you and agree on the approach in working with the engineers and try to find answers/explore together. If that works it is amazing and truely unique branding. Problem is, there is not a single word from engineers or product managers on this topic since the release and the doom screenshot.
I wouldn't call that working together.

awesome thanks! Does it really raise the power limit to 500 watts as I have read? I got lucky with the silicon lottery stock bios I run oc scanner and it tells me to increase my clock 185 mem clock 800. I pushed it to 200 mem clock 1000 I am pegged out power limit at 2145 mhz. Card doesnt go over 61 degrees running port royal over and over. Same with all others I set super position for a loop and let it run for an hour and half no crashes just power limit hit over and over.

I've done experimenting with the beat OC bios and the BIOS that came installed on my FTW3 Ultra. Sometimes the beta OC BIOS doesn't draw as much power as the stock OC BIOS. Yet all my highest benchmark results have been achieved with the beta OC BIOS. I have one of the highest AMD CPU results for unigine superposition benchmarks for both 8K optimized and 4K Optimized. It looks like I have the highest air cooled GPU with AMD CPU results for the 4K optimized superposition benchmark. My best stock OC BIOS results were all lower. So obviously the OC BIOS seems to be working. However GPU-Z isn't reporting a power draw anywhere near 500 watts. Most of the time its in the 400-420 watts range, even with the beta OC BIOS. I checked and the version number of the beta OC BIOS is correct on my card after the BIOS flash. The highest wattage I've seen reported in GPU-Z was a brief jump to 450.1 watts total board power with the beta OC BIOS. I have a 1300 watt 80+ Gold PSU and the 3090 is currently the only GPU in my system. GPU-Z BIOS info for my card after the flash.

its gotta be the shunt resistors on the card then. Specifically the ones at the pcie. a bios cant turn of a soldered on part. Blah. Well We will see what mine is I will post my results. What is your GPU idle temps sitting at? Mine sits at this but I spent alot of time figuring out case fans and negative vs positive pressure. Its so not true when people say negative is better I have ran tests over and over positive is better temps lowers by at least 7 degrees with it at least with my set up.

All 3000 series cards have resistors on the PCIE slot interface. You will find the same ones on the Asus and MSI cards.

Now just wait a dang minute. I put this "XOC" bios on my card. Can someone tell me why Precision hardware monitor said I hit my power limit at 109% It spiked to a 110 and then backed down. This was during the OC scan. But yet I had the slider set to 119%. It appears that this bios update is bunk. That would explain why you haven't really ever hit the 500w max Bavor. I could get it to hit 109% with the stock bios then it would spike down. Did the only thing this bios do is write numbers down to get people giddy? GPU-Z confirms the update applied. Odd tho, bios updates are firmware updates...when I bought the card it had a firmware update and all the fans spun to 100 and all 4 red lights stayed on until the update finished. This bios "update" no lights, no max fans and it took like 7 seconds to install. I smell fake news.....

This is the same problem many other people are having, to me it sounds like a mis-flash where the new PL isn't taking.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this. The shunt is used to measure power. There is a current measuring chip. VRM's draw from either the plugs or slot (?), delivering voltages set by the control chips. I don't know if the gpu is able to enforce a power limit at each of the three voltage control chips, one of which is dedicated to the PCIe slot.

As Kevin before me mentioned, most of us are having the same problem, but I did want to add the firmware (which was updated after installing PX1) is different than BIOS as I learned here myself earlier. Firmware is in charge of things like the fan curve while BIOS handles the power among other matters. I'm sure others with more technical knowledge and experience than I can and will chime in to add and make corrections.

If you're using PX1, uninstall it, restart, and reinstall it. PX1 has been just a bit buggy and not just with setting a higher power limit.

I can max around 467w in port royal with 8k and max settings, max fans, and temp target. No overclock. I noticed pin 3 maxed at 150w per gpuz. Pin 1 maxed at 115, pin 2 125, pci 84.

So In watching jayz 2 cents a video I missed where he is trying to use a ftw3 ultra 3090 and get on top of the leader boards video is called "this is what happens when you modify the 3090 bios...." which he totally didn't even do or talk about doing a hole haha. Anyway he was overclocking how he hasd the proper way for years him and gamers nexus are the 2 overclockers out of all of the reviewers. Well he couldn't figure out why his scores were so low in port royal it was pissing him off. So he switched to msi afterburner entered the same numbers and scored like 400 points plus higher. He said he called EVGA and they said there was a bug in the the new precision x 1 they told him to enter his numbers. Apply and save and completely close precision and then benchmark. That fixed it. I tried it and I got higher scores. I am still getting higher scores than that tho with after burner I actually hit the 119% threshold and hit 501 watts several times. Clocks were running at 2241. So their oc software is messed up it appears. You have to get the new beta from guru3ds website tho as they incorporated ampre support in it if you don't have it then it wont work. Also dont try to run the oc scanner it doesn't like EVGA cards it errors out just manual oc.

Yikes, power limit not applying was a day one issue. Thanks for pointing this out. What do you want bet that the people having problems are using X1 alone and the people with it working are using X1 and afterburner combined.....?

Afterburner is controlling the PL as shown in the image (far left-hand side you can see the Afterburner Interface), I have tried every combination of AF, X1, individually, together, etc.

Not seeing a huge difference using AB to control power limit. I gained maybe 5w. Maxed at 473.7 in time spy extreme 8k, 100% on voltage slider, no oc, and max power and temp limits. Got this result using the new normal bios. I see 83w max on priced, 115w pin 1, 127w pink, 158.5w pin3.
My top max went up to 112.8%, which is above the 111% I was getting on oc bios switch.
Maybe a bad flash or perhaps everything is about on track. Anything else I could do to push for the 500?
I do see a performance gain in time spy though over x1.

Imho you want to be looking at average power while in a power Perfcap condition, peak/max values are considerably above the power limit. - Open up GPU-Z sensors - Set board power to show average - Find a load that causes constant perfcap "pwr" - Reset the datalogging and let it run for ten second while at perfcap pwr - The average board power reading should be an accurate indication of the power limit the board is enforcing. If you're peaking to the 473w when really hammering the card while on power limit, your average when measured this way should be about 445-450w with the stock OC bios, which is the power limit it is enforcing. If you're not seeing perfcap pwr at all while peaking to 473w, then your 500w limit is working. If you're not seeing perfcap pwr at all, you're not on the power limit. You need to crank up the voltage, lock it at 1.1v

You need to crank up the voltage, lock it at 1.1v
Will give it a shot. I ran an automatic OC scan and got +130/+150. Ran that and maxed at 478w (using Precision X1). Didn't measure averages though, I will do that. I was seeing the percap pwr though for sure.

Yeah, so following that I'd say around 440 is where my average is.
