As I have said in earlier threads, definitely a change of direction for the FTW3 cards compared to previous generations. Still very happy with mine for daily use.

Maximizing profit with least effort

Is the pcb quality similar to the 3090 ftw ultra? If so, that's disappointing.

I would be disappointed, except here in Australia that's the cheapest 3080 you can get basically.
Its $1260 for a FTW3 ULTRA, even the tuff OC is $1490 (Strix OC is $1800!)

I expected the savings to come from somewhere.. I just wish they had have done this on the non ultra and upgrade the components on the ultra (Even if it cost more).. Give us a larger difference other than a bios flash.
Feels a little sneaky to suddenly have the FTW3 a cost cut model suddenly, I purchased partially based on the quality of my old 1080..

are we going to see a revision 2.0 board soon ? :)

EVGA must not watch Gamers Nexus, as they should have known that this was coming 🤔

they've been absolutely horrible this generation.
buildzoid was talking about this basically being a streched out founders edition with no premium components. Except that it carries a premium price tag 
 
The fact that the xc3 is one of the worst 3080s you can buy is a travesty. And the 500w controversy and shady dealings regarding their 3090s.
They lost me and many many other customers going forward.
Yeah now there is a shortage but in the future when they actually decide they need us again i will be dismissing them the same way i dismiss low quality brands like zotac 

I know we're on an EVGA forum so this is probably a dumb question to ask, but what cards should we target? The queue felt like my best hope of getting one at all, but with this, I'm just not so sure... with the 5% associate codes does it make it worth it, or should we still avoid at any price?

This is extremely.. disappointing it would explain why during the overclocking on the 3070's that the asus TUF series are just doing plain better. Upsetting and kinda sad but again... If it wasn't for EVGA I wouldn't have a card... Soooooo while this does kinda piss me off. At the same time at least I got a card. 

There are questions that have been asked already I even asked EVGA_JacobF directly for some answer, what’s happening with the cards that are either dying or have issues..total silents
Personally and I didn't think I would say that, but Asus is the best choice, It seem they put the most effort in customizing their card and it shows by having the least issues, although Asus support is not even as near good as EVGA. On the other hand, keep sending card for RMAs its pain

Each to their own. But many of us buy EVGA/FTW3 as we believe we are paying a premium price for premium card.

People like to whine about everything.
 
In the end you're still getting a good 3080 plus not everyone is an extreme overclocker. So those extra 20-30MHz won't even affect you in gaming.
And if you're really unhappy about your purchase, you can still sell it on ebay for 200$ more than what you paid for. 

Am I disappointed? Slightly.
 
Does it matter to me in end? Not really. Sure it cost more and is worst value compared to the Strix, but I'll take the card I have now and just work a few more hours to make back the perceived loss value. I knew it was never going to be a good value proposition when I bought the 3090 no matter the brand.
 
A lot of people don't seem to realize the scale of Asus. They are gigantic compared to EVGA. Fully automated assembly lines, a huge notebook division, phone division, etc. They can afford the economies of scale to just put more stuff or better stuff on PCBs.
 
Do I wish I had a Strix now? Maybe, I've had a chance to buy a few. But since I already have my card and they all perform within single digit percentages of each other. I am not gonna cry over the performance headroom lost, LN2 was never in my thoughts when purchasing.
 
As for the people with cards dying. That really sucks and I hope it's an isolated batch that has this issue. It sucks to RMA multiple times, but it's the price we pay for newly launched products. There's always gonna be lemons. EVGA should rectify the issue and I think as a good will gesture, pay for shipping both ways.
