Dear Evga forum group,
recently I bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3, to finally get that taste of 4k/2k smooth gaming experience. How fast was I disappointed, when after a couple of hours of usage I get stutters and frame drops in games like AC: Origins (1440p) or Destiny 2 (2160p). First thought - the card is broken (any internal card damage / error). I send it back to retailer, and get new one yesterday. I plugged the new one, reinstalled the drivers using DDU (in safe mode) yet after 10-30 mins of gameplay I still get the stutters and frame drops for like a 2-5 sec, then it goes back to normal framerate (60 fps), and after some time it repeats again and again... OK, next I did a BIOS update, load default, clean install of OS, yet this problem still persist. I tried as many tips as I found in this forum ( windows clean boot, DDU, Nvidia debug mode, deleting game settings log and etc), yet same crap every time. Non of this happened when I was using my 980ti. No stutters or frame drops, just smooth gameplay at full hd. With 1080ti even if I drop to 1080p I still get the same problem. PC is one year old. My specs are as follows:
Win 7 x64
Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero
Intel Core i7 6700K @stock 4GHz (turbo @4.2GHz)
16GB (2x 8192MB) HyperX FURY DDR4-2666 (with XMP or without XMP, the problem still occurs)
1000 Watt be quiet! Dark Power Pro 80+ Platinum (power in OS set to High performance, same in Nvidia panel)
SEAGATE HDD Fire CUDA SSHD 2000 GB (with installed Destiny 2)
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (with installed AC: Origins)

Im using GPU-Z to monitor this issue since it happens with 1080ti. And while I get stutters and frame frops the GPU load and memory controller drops to 0%, power consumption drops from 66 to 33/22. No CPU or GPU are overheating, CPU stays at 50-52°C, and GPU @60-64°C.

If anyone would have any clue what is the reason of it, or any help, it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance & best regards.

PS. yes, I'm using latest nvidia drivers.

Step 1 here should do the trick for testing that, right? https://forums.evga.com/Basic-troubleshooting-steps-Windows-clean-boot-clean-driver-install-debug-mode-etc-m2504606.aspx

    Dears,
thank you for a quick reply.

    @AHowes, @arestavo,
I do run my PC on normal and clean boot. In both cases this still problem still occurs. The link was the first thing before I posted my topic.

    @HeavyHemi,
While playing AC: Origins @1440p, RAM is @7,6-8,4 Gb (depends on location in game)

    @Sajin,
even if i lower the resolution and crank some options down to stay around 2100 mb (v ram usage in options AC:O), the problem is still there.
The stutters, frame drops, freeze for 1-2 sec, mostly occurs when it comes to some interactions (fights, phsysics, etc.).

I'm using HDMI cable, either on card HDMI Port, or trough DP-HDMI Adapter on card DP port (to enable physX), still with freezes & frame drops.

None of this was happening when played on 980ti.

    Any idea?

    Best regards.

Just tried Destiny 2 @1080p, and after just 7 minutes, I get stutters, spike freeze, and frame drops.
    RAM @ 6.3-6.5 Gb.
Both GPU and CPU going crazy.
GPU usage jumping from normal load 40-50 % to 100% then drops to 0% and again back to 100% and then 0%....

CPU jumps from 42-56% to 100% and stays couple seconds on this value:

I have no idea, what the hell is going on with this card...

I read here the other day that with the new driver 388.xx running monitoring software, such as GPU-z or other overclocking software was causing said problems.

Thanks for the tips. I've tested
387.92 - no changes to the problem
385.69 - no changes to the problem

I was so excited to get the 1080 ti, but now I'm more and more disappointed.

    Any other suggestions?

All I could think of is something running in the background. :/ virus? Any 2nd monitor thst you could have task manager open in to see if there's some other program in the background taking cycles away from the gpu when you see the spikes stuttering?

I'm running all the time now on "clean boot" to see if it helps, but no changes to the spikes / freezes.
Regarding Antivirus I'm using Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2018 (but no problems with 980 ti, so)
WIll try your solution and have a look on a monitor while playing.

Time to test the new card in another pc to see if it causes the same issue on another pc. If it does it's time to rma it.

    Dears,
sometimes the solution to the problems are direct in front of you (yet you don't see them as reason to a problem).
After whole day of experimenting (different PCIe slots, different PSU cables, reconnecting HDD's and etc),
finally what I've done was to uninstall my Bitdefender Antivirus Plus (2018).
    And?
So far so good, 4 hours of testing in AC:Origins and Destiny 2, no frame drops or spike freezes.
Will now install Bitdefender back and try to run it in "Game mode" and exclude "Game folders" from monitoring, will se if that helps.

Weird, Bitdefender 2018 (just the antivirus) hasn't negatively impacted my playing Assassin's Creed Origins and I've got about 25 hours in it so far. No, I didn't mess with any Bitdefender settings. If you have Bitdefender Total Security perhaps it's some other module other than the antivirus causing it?

Just had another stutter, spike freeze in Destiny 2 -.-'
Bitdefender is now on "Game mode", and frequency of stutters and spikes is less than before (3 hours of smooth gameplay) till now.
Will disable Antivirus for gameplay and test the card furthermore.

@arestavo, have only ANtivirus plus (wihtout any addons like total security).

    Just found this - http://www.dsogaming.com/news/assassins-creed-origins-still-needs-optimization-improvements-patch-1-05-benchmarked/

That might explain why I am not seeing the same stuttering issue in Origins as I am running a 10C 20T i7 6950X and not a mainstream processor. Oh Denuvo, how gamers hate you.

My OS is Windows 7 can't find any SmartScreen in control panel.
Found only some sites which describes "Disable Smart Screen in IE", but I'm not using IE anyway.
Checkech the Smart-Screen filter in IE, and the box is unchecked.

Turn off OCS --> see post https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2727185

Disable Hardware acceleration in your browser

Does it still happen with above, then try with GPU-Z turned off

    Cool GTX
Turn off OCS --> see post

Disable Hardware acceleration in your browser

Does it still happen with above, then try with GPU-Z turned off

What else is running in the background ?

Stutters and freezes were already before using any monitoring program.
Last case that I do notice less stutters and freezes is by disabling Antivirus.

    ebs2013
My FTW3 Elite 12Ghz will be here tomorrow. Seeing this thread has me nervous.
I decided to do a clean install of everything, OS, drivers, etc.
    Fingers crossed.

    Hi ebs2013,
Don't get nervous, maybe in your case you will not have any problems at all. There are not that many people / posts that complain about 1080 ti.
Should you have any problems with stuttering or freezing in titles like AC: Origins or Destiny 2:
    1) change your Antivirus to "Game Mode"
    2) if that not helps = disable Antivirus

Step 2) helped me in my case. May not help in yours. (if you ever should have any problem).
Now AC: Origins runs much smoother (no spike freezes) and I see less freeze in Destiny 2.
AC: Origins is demanding and both games are not perfect optimized for PC (you can read it on many sites), but maybe my solution will help you somehow.
But let us not discuss it until you get yours 1080ti.
Now I'm really enjoying the 1080 ti. It's a beast of a card.

    Dears,
sometimes the solution to the problems are direct in front of you (yet you don't see them as reason to a problem).

    Greetings from Europe.

Thank you so much, finally fixed my stuttering.

    Happy to read that.
Never had issue with Antivirus, while using 980ti or gtx 680.
I still find it weird that I have that problems with 1080ti.
Since January I'm more far away from stutters and spikes through upgrade to 1440p G-sync monitor.
If needed, can easily push my 1080ti ftw3 to +55 mhz to core clock and +500 mhz to memory.
Temps @max. 70°C when fully loaded, stable, no crashes, works smooth and fine.
I'm happy with this card and even more happy that I get it for good price before whole "crypto sh*t" :)

Greetings @ all lucky evga gtx owners.

Must be nice I have tried all said things and even built a new computer to put it in not ONCE but TWICE from a 4790k system to a 7700k system to a Ryzen 2700x system still no go on my FTW3 Hybrid 1080ti I only use windows Defender I have not disabled its real-time detect but that shouldn't be an issue as I have tried a rx 590 and it does NOT stutter at all in all three systems With fresh installs of windows 10 1809, 1803, 1607, and I even tried the insider 1903 latest build as of what 3 days ago or so. I am at my wits end with this I also have another issue but not evga its NVidia and their crap drivers stopping you from having different Hz monitors set in clone mode for said streaming capture card it locks them down to 60hz I can do it no problem even on a r9 380x no issues I guess if you only care about top FPS and not stable FPS and different Hz in clone mode your good I guess, also if I set second screen in other words my capture card to extended mode and project my game to it via OBS to capture it I still get weird refresh rate issues specially in UE 4 games. Game mode overlays and seconds screens are just a pain in the ass to deal with on a nvidia gpu due to drivers and nvidia disabling features that once were allowed that no longer are I have read so many forums im sick of having to do this **** just to play a god damn game. The micro stutters are more like major stutters as of today, for instance I can be on desktop and grab a window and drag it around the said window will stall out every 3 to 5 seconds I can easily stream all this to demonstrate all issues running x264 or nvenc codec so I am about to just sell this thing and replace it with a radeon VII
