Good morning everyone,

So, I just installed two EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC w/ EVGA ACX Cooler (2784) and the performance is great using a 27inch 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor on all max settings.

However, the GTX 780's ACX exhaust fan (closest to case mount thumb screws) in slot 1 sits awfully close to the sound card using the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H.  In addition, I want to use my old GTX 680 as a dedicated Physx card.

So, my question is ... is there another motherboard or setup any of you know about where the video card would not sit so close to the fan of the ACX cooler as well as allow me to use my 680 as a dedicated Physx card? For SLI should the ACX style cooler not be used?

Does using the 3rd card (780s in SLI w/ 680 for Physx) require 3 way SLI and just adjust settings in Nvidia Control Panel?

Thank you in advance, have been using EVGA cards since approximately 2001-2.

Why!? oh why!? Do you want to waste a 680 on PhysX???? Waste of energy, power, etc. Your GTX 780 SLI set up is enough to run PhysX on the 3 games that supported. Just sell the 680 or build another system around it.

If you do decide to go with it ... you don't need a bridge to the 680.

Regarding the Sound Card... can you post a photo, I don't understand your description.

About the two ACX for SLI... I don't see any reason to not SLI them. It depends a bit on your case ventilation; the ACX cooler does dump some heat into the case.

    Thanks for the response!

A few acquaintances who build mentioned using my old 680 for PhysX so I thought I would ask.

In the past it has never occurred to me to run a dedicated PhysX card.  Sure as heck not going to if not that big of a performance impact.

My temps are fine so far as the Corsair case has always had good air flow, yet I thought with 2-way and 3-way SLI becoming more common practice there may be a more efficient MB to run 780s in SLI and not have the sound card parked between them.

I am not sure if this is your MB and I am still not clear on which slots you are using for the cards. Anyway, I would place the sound card in the first slot (from right to left on the image above) and place the first GTX 780 on the second. The 2nd GTX 780 should be in the "5th slot" PCI; the more space between them the better. Why don't you have the Sound Card on the "1st slot" from the beginning?

Mine is the UD5H version. There are only two slots for the video cards on board for 2 way SLI. I will look again and see if an open slot to move the sound card, yet I do not remember seeing one once both GTX 780s were installed in the two SLI slots on mobo.

The z77 ud5h has a slot for your sound card above the first pci-e 16x slot. use that problem solved.

From Amazon's picture, the UD5H has the top 1x slot above the GPU. Put the sound card there.

    Definitely remove the 680.

Sound card should go in a 2x PCIE slot or you may not be able to run native 16/8 or 8/8 on your 780s.
