Hrmm, do all 3 of those 8-pin connectors need be used to power this GPU, or is the third only for extreme overclocking?

There are only 2.

Check the back side shot, the PCB has 2 x 8 pin solder connections.

 
I believe he was referring to the MARS III above his post.

I don't think you can do a 4-way hydro in that case and they are blower type cards so they vent exhaust outside the case so it should be fine

Talk about zero airflow. Hydro versions simply a must in a config like that. 


 
What do you mean? 4-way Hydro Classified's would work just like my previous setup with 4x 680s:
