I bought me a Classified from the Egg and gots my tracking number!  Why is anyone comparing this to a GTX 580 SLI setup.  The space/heat/energy/money savings is well worth a few frames IMO.

How much is this card compared to 2 580's?  Of course you're not going to get the same performance.  You can't even buy two 480's for the price of this card new.  It was clear from the beginning that the GPU's would have to be under-clocked to achieve specifications.  How many people here actually have room for 4 580's SLI in their case anyway?  This is a nice card, because a year down the road, you can grab another one at half price, which is what I'll probably be doing when BF3 hits the shelves.

The HD 6990 is cool for people with DP monitors, but getting that card, then dealing with the BS adapters you need to get DVI monitors to work with Eyefinity is more than I wanted to play around with.  Nvidia did it right, for the typical gamer.

The logic is pretty simple.
This is compared to two 580s because it uses two 580 chips.....simple.
The performance isn't there unfortunately.  So the 590 is not as solid as two 580s, plain and simple.
The performance of the 590 in 30" or three 24" gaming is only equal to two 570s in SLI which can be purchased for less than 700 dollars, again a loss for the 590.
The absolute best dual chip solution is most likely the HD 6990, with performance close to dual GTX 580s and easily overclocked with the flip of a BIOS switch.
The absolute performance crown goes to HD6990 and HD 6970 in Triple Crossfire, that can be purchased for just under the cost of two GTX 580s.

As for DP......a newer monitor from Dell or other vendors has at least one native DP connection, which is all you need for EyeFinity in addition to the two DVI connections.
Anybody purchasing the GTX 590 who doesn't use a 30" single monitor or a triple monitor setup is simply wasting their money.  A single GTX 580 or a Crossfired 6970 setup can easily power anything 24" and below at the maximum settings possible.
I guess maybe the only advantage for buying the 590 is the keen box and free T-shirt?
Or simply to be the coolest kid on the block? (but maybe not the smartest)

They use the same box for all of the limited 590s.

Yes, it may be using the GTX 580 chips, but it's not using the same clock speeds.  You can't compare 2 GTX 580's in SLI to a GTX 590 and expect them to be equal just because of the chips and memory.  You're comparing a 1-card solution vs a 2-card solution.  1 card vs 2 cards yields pros and cons.  I could list out a whole pluthera of pros and cons, but no one cares.  I guess it all depends on what a person wants in the end.   For me, I have 3 23 inch monitors with only DVI capability.  I'm not a fan of mixing and matching monitors, so I'm not going to go the HD 6990 route.  Plus who the hell likes ATI anyways? The last ATI card I had was in the 90's.  It was a 4mb vga card.  They're still up to their same old tricks of releasing new hardware supported by beta/release candidate drivers.

Back to the original argument, who's to say that Nvidia wont release driver software to increase the performance of the GTX 590 down the road?  They did it with the 480's with a simple driver update.  Also, they didn't price the GTX 590 at the same price as 2 GTX 580's... It's 3/4 the cost of dual 580's for nearly the same performance at this time.

Scroll to the bottom of this page. http://www.overclockerscl...s/nvidia_gtx590/13.htm  You're only seeing 1fps more on the SLI 580's vs the 590 when playing BC2 at 5760x1080... And it kicks the HD 6990's ass.  For a 1 card solution that reduces heat, power consumption, space in my chassis, cost, that's all I'm concerned about at this time for my nvidia surround setup.

590 for me? Nope, I have a Classified E759 motherboard and SLi 580 does the job for me, plus a dedicated PhysX card without knocking down my 16x pic-e speeds.

"The GTX 590 also gives users the ability to configure the GPU settings via the Nvidia control panel. This can either be setting the GPUs to scale together in an SLI configuration or you can also set one GPU to run 3D applications, while the second GPU is dedicated solely to PhysX."  http://www.neoseeker.com/...eforce_GTX_590/16.html

Check out the video at the bottom, start @ 55 seconds. Nvidia says they have a PCI-E switch built on board to allow both GPU's to get full x16 bandwidth.

Will there be a Step-Up for the GTX590 at all? C'mon, EVGA I just bought a 580 a few days ago!! That's pretty crummy not offering a chance for exsiting customers to make a quick upgrade. Booooo....

EVGA's step-up program is a nice option to consider if you're weighing different brands but I don't think you'll be seeing any 590s available via step-up any time soon (and maybe not ever).  Nvidia might not say so but I suspect that the 590 is almost certainly going to be limited in quantity because the GPUs are cherry picked.  A limited supply with "high enough" demand means that if you want one, you'll be paying full price for it to maximize the sales margins.  Making the 590 available for step-up would be cutting into those margins.

It's been stated many times, no, there are no plans to put that card in the Step-up program, as the card is in limited production.

I noticed only two EVGA motherboards made the cut. Any chance that's only because they haven't tested all of them yet? Two of these cards means new motherboard and new power supply if my e760 doesn't make the cut. That's a lot to be spending for quad. By the way, with Intel and AMD rapidly decreasing power requirements for their CPUs while all the time increasing processing ability, when should we expect GPU manufacturers to jump onto that wagon? ;)

Hi,

I just bought two 580 cards a couple weeks ago and was thinking of returning them or step-up to achieve two 590's.... Would (2) 590's outperform (2) 580?  if so in what way? and by how much?  I am using a gigabyte assassin, 12 GB RAM, 990X CPU, etc...

I use games on a 30" Dell running 2560 x 1600, so I am wondering if I should swap out me (2) 580 for (2) 590 ??

2x 590's are definitely faster than 2x 580's, its a big difference in apps that make good use of SLI.

The E760 itself can handle two of these cards, but you will want to get the power boost if you do.

Ok, in all seriousness, there's a mini-DVI standard which could've been used and would've made that card a single slot solution with a water block, all you had to do was ship three mini-DVI to DVI adapters with every card. The costs for those adapters would've certainly been a premium I would've gladly paid for, just to avoid wasting expansion slots...

Well...I just took a leap of faith and ordered the GTX 590 Classified Hydro Copper Quad SLI (2 pack).

If anyone is interested in purchasing two GTX 480 SCs with DD water blocks, feel free to pm me.

When I first heard about the GTX 590 and EVGA's plans to support it, I knew I would be sold if the HC option was available from the start. This will be my sixth straight EVGA card since 2006, and I'm crossing my fingers that these two GTX 590s won't let me down either.

A big thanks to EVGA for offering the best enthusiast products that spoiled gamers can buy!

2x 590's are definitely faster than 2x 580's, its a big difference in apps that make good use of SLI.

Yes very true the GTX 590's SLI for $1400 will have faster performance over two GTX 580's SLI for $1000, $400 difference.

For almost the same amount of money IF you can fit three and TRI SLI the GTX 580 it will be faster than two GTX 590's at a very close price point of $1500 vs $1400, $100 difference.

Showed visuals on this page four of this thread with AMD 6990's which is very close in performance to the GTX 590.
