Installed the mod with thermal grizzly paste and Fujipoly pads... 18C colder under load. Yes you read that right. 18 C. Colder š¤

Yeah somebody dropped the ball but EVGA is rectifying the situation. Still haven't received my pad kit even though they show shipped on 11/2... Will give em a call Monday morning.

I opened up my case yesterday, there isn't much space between heat sink fins and the plate, isn't 1mm more appropriate there? I'm talking about the "narrow" pad over the chokes.

I'm not convinced that the pad on the chokes is really needed. MSI has exposed chokes and gets great temps.

Pad on Memories and Chokes 1.5 even if is 1mm a 1.5 will squeeze to 1 and is better squeezed than a hot air gap
Pad on backplate 2mm

How is it that other brands get by with chokes in the open and good temps?

The chokes arent the issue. Its the mosfets that generate the heat. Still not sure why evga suggests covering the chokes.

This secretion is apparently normal for silicone rubber foam based thermal pads. The liquid is silicone oil, should do no harm to electronic components. Don't like it either. Maybe somebody can shed a light on this: is this common for 'cheap' thermal pads with low thermal conductivity or do higher quality pads also have this? I have not received the thermalmod yet. Already bought Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, but after seeing these pictures I might go for their thermal pads also. FujiPoly seems to be the best, but these are not so easy to get and rather expensive (at least where I am from).

Im not mad about the secretion thats fine Im mad about that are chips that are literally only covered 5% by the pads

Yes, that's right, the secretions themselves are not an issue. On my card however when opened I was shocked that NONE of the VRAM chips made contact with anything. Simply, they were way to thin. The fix is fairly easy and works. But on a card like mine the thermal pad fix is essential, not optional. The new BIOS I happen to like, but by itself it won't fix the VRAM issue. I keep it (new BIOS) purely as choice, nothing to do with the overheating issue.

Quick question: does anyone have a micrometer? I have one at work i can grab, but i am curious if the standoffs on the plate are the issues, since with the same exact thermal pads, every single one of my vram chips makes great contact.

That's a good suggestion, never thought of that. Unfortunately I don't have such an accurate measuring device, but just to add +1 to Scarlet's suggestion. Would be very interesting indeed.
