Questions How many max single GPU cards can it boot with and be stable? How many max dual GPU cards can it boot with and be stable? For a balanced system for CUDA I need slots to be at same speed. so no mix matching x16 with x8. Can I have at least 4 x8 rather than 2 x16 with 2 x8. Can it do that

I don't even care about the CPUs anymore. I can't get over the fact that the SAS ports are only 3gb. I hope whoever wrote the stat sheet meant to say that they are SATA 3, aka, 6gb. I do not need 12 3gb ports on my $650 board, I mean come on. Now, 10 6gb ports, that I can appreciate.

Intersting that the SRX is using C606 chipset and the Asus z9pe-d8-ws is using C602. Intel's spec sheet site has bad links so you can't really see the difference

This is all very irritating, but again, none of my complaints about this board are in EVGA's control unless they got freaky and integrated a third party SAS controller. That would be kinda cool, but if I'm going to pay a premium for that, I might as well just save my moneys and get a real PCIe SAS card. I guess I hadn't planned on running more than 2 SSDs, so this wont bother me that much in reality, but still... maybe I should have rooted for AMD a little more when they were fumbling around with Bulldozer. Oh well, I'm still down for one of these. Hopefully the board isn't explosive or radioactive or something... that might turn me off.

@EVGA_JacobF Can you answer my other GPU related question? How many single/dual gpu cards can it boot and be stable. can I have minimum of 4 slots at x8 to balance the system instead of 2 x16 and 2 x8. For CUDA/OpenCl it's important all GPUs are at the same bandwidth.

Protip: There's a bunch of other 2S Romley boards that are specifically designed to use a crapload of RAM. If the end user needs that, they either buy the boards rated for it or takes a chance on the SR-X with 16GB or 32GB DIMMs.

I'm in, put me down for one. Even tho OC'ing is impossible right now, I am optomistic. How can you possibly turn away 96gb of Ram!!! Now I know everybody is a little dissapointed in the way the rams are aligned and distributed over the board, but I see no problem as long as the performance is there. Like nateman_doo, the waterblock is going to be a monster and I can't wait. Notify me the second this becomes available. I am down for it.

In response to the EVGA vs Asus boards, the asus board will have the same OCing limitations as the EVGA because the multiplier on the chip is locked regardless of board.

With mainstream chipsets in LGA1155, the clock generator is in the southbridge, that is how Intel allows overclocking in certain boards. Same can be said for other sockets, both a chipset to allow overclock and a CPU to be unlocked must exist. Meaning, we don't know if any C600 series chipsets allow overclocking just because there is no unlocked dual-QPI Xeon. In otherwords, until an EVGA rep says so, having an unlocked Xeon isn't the only ingredient needed for SR-X to overclock. Eru_JRRT Question though, why are not all of the CPU's listed here: http://techreport.com/discussions.x/22583 supported by the SR-X? Support = tested and verified. EVGA usually tests those their customers are most likely to get first, not all at once. Same thing happened with SR-2, only a handful were supported early on, so either give them time or get what is on their list thus far. Also, regarding Asus' layout colors, keep in mind they are one of the biggest motherboard manufacturers that have been making Intel's dual-socket boards for a long time-- those customer typically don't care for the colors, i.e. they didn't choose those colors for the enthusiast model because it is just a port. EVGA's stands out because they don't make server/workstation boards, hence putting thought into asthetics.
