This BIOS is ONLY for the EVGA 790i Ultra Motherboard (part number 132-CK-NF79- )

  • Now set the CD Drive as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select CD as the bootable device.
  • After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

USB FLOPPY Installation - Recommended installation method
  • Download the following executable: NF79_P10.exe
  • Insert blank floppy disk into drive and run executable
  • After the floppy has written fully, restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Now set the USB Floppy as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select USB Floppy as the bootable device
  • After flash remove the floppy, power off PC Completely
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

USB Flash Drive Installation - Alternate installation method
  • Download: NF79P10.bin
  • Visit this thread and follow the installation instructions. (thanks 30h6).

I wonder if this is a evga specific fix?

Am hoping XFX release a P10, but not likely, they dont care no where near as much for there customers, as evga do

Oh yeah? XFX released P09 quite some time before EVGA... They care so much that my 790i FTW board that only EVGA make has had cold boot issues for so long, so many complaints from so many users & they still have done nothing.

In fact the last bios released for the FTW, I noticed no improvements & at boot I have new errors with SZ17, Errors about the network ports, They even spelled device wrong in the error it pops up! lol

I agree with stray_bullet.  EVGA REALLY needs to fix the cold boot issue on the FTW board, its really holding my system back because it seems the higher I raise my FSB, the more often it cold boots despite being stable in every stress test. I have to keep my system at a lower speed just so it can boot somewhat frequently.

I am trying to update my bios (I am currently running P07).  I have downloaded the file from option 1 above and burned to a CD using nero.  I followed the steps (CD in, bios loaded to defaults, restart booting from CD) but it will not boot from the cd.  It just says can not boot, insert system disk.  Any ideas?

UPDATE:  Had to download an updated version of Nero, but burning as a boot cd worked.  Thanks!

Nero is tricky because you have to use specific settings to make it a bootable CD.  I think you have to use the "CD-ROM (Boot)" option to create the CD and select "Image file".  I'm sorry that I don't remember exactly.  A google of the internet should provide correct answers.  thorne

    Re:EVGA 790i Ultra (NF79) - P10 BIOS Released 2010/01/31 12:23:49 (permalink)
Hi guys. I have a big problem here. A friend of mine is running a EVGA 790i Ultra SLI. He's had it pretty much since launch and paid $350+ for it. Sadly it has never worked. He has had three different kinds of ram in it and none of them, even with phone help from EVGA on timings etc have worked. It BSODS all the time. Because of this and because he is not what I would deem to be a professor of computers the PC has sat since mid 2008 doing nothing. We ordered some Patriot ram that Patriot advised and the machine will still not report the correct ram speed or can be forced to. This is obviously a bios issue and I have been dreading helping him to flash it because as I said he's not what I would class as a computer professor.

However, today we concieded that if he ever wants to get $1 of value out of this PC and actually game on it that we MUST flash the bios.

Sadly the ISO uploaded here does not work and we have tried burning it in three applications. I have dissassembled the ISO and it is empty, so basically I am led to believe it is corrupt. Due to this I have had to train him to build a usb flash boot thing and now AWDFLASH is telling us that the serial number does not match, much like what someone else has reported above. We have now been at this all day and I am reluctant to advise him on what GPU to buy (because he is currently running a 8200 just to get it running) if we cannot flash this bios.

    Please help !!

Right now we are going to try and flash P08 as P09's download link is also broken. I will report back and hopefully P08 will solve these problems. If not can someone please check over that ISO and confirm it works, and maybe offer an explanation as to why it is refusing to go on his motherboard? I have had him triple check and even send me a photo of the board and the box and it is *definitely* a 790i Ultra SLI. I would imagine however it was one of the first off the production line given what he paid for it and when he purchased it.

if he registered it with EVGA then he should RMA it (should have done this a long time ago IMO) He should call EVGA directly with his mobo serial number and verify what mobo it is and that its made by EVGA and go from there .

Seems to work a treat so far. Oh and btw, since moving to Windows 7 I haven't had the constant freeze-ups that I used to have with this board - strange (which I have posted up here previously but have since disappeared - need to get a copy of my bios template - lucky  I found it in my backups!). The only issue I've had so far (previous to this BIOS update but since moving to Windows 7) is that my network adapter drops out occasionally, which is an easy one - just disable/re-enabled but it happens intermittedly and it's a pain in the a--. Anyway we'll see how this BIOS update goes. I ony just found out about P09 and this one, this week. I quickly rushed home to update both.

I know I should be posting this on another thread but it's kinda related...

Anyway thanks for your help guys.

it's been working good for me. i don't see much of a difference between this and former P09. both stable enough for some funky overclocking. i have no networking trouble (under vista x64 here) with this BIOS, though i experienced it with P09. hard to tell if they were caused by BIOS or my ISP problems back then. anyways now all working fine at 1800 FSb 24/7 (literally), zero trouble.

I have appeared to fix this by doing the following...

INSTALL nforce 15.35 may 15, 2009 on Nvidia's web site.

    LAN port configuration:
Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager and right-click on the properties of your card in "Network Adapters"

Now Go to the Advanced TAB
Make sure you have these settings (Can someone confirm that these are correct because they seem to be working fine for me):

    Sleep on disconnect: enabled
    flow control: disabled
    interrupt moderation: disabled
    ip checksum offload: disabled
jumbo packet: 9014 bytes (this might have no effect for you)
    ALL large send offloads: disabled
    BOTH low power: enabled
    network address: not present
    priority & vlan: priority enabled
    receive side scaling: disabled
    speed/duplex settings: auto
ALL TCP & UDP offloads: disabled
    vlan id: 1
    ALL wake ons: enabled

    also....
DISABLE Apple's Bonjour service and Microsoft's Windows Media Player Network Sharing service.

So far so good for me. Let me know if you have the same success....

I also have an 790i Ultra SLI, but since I started with trying to change the hdd for RAID, it has started to give me grief.  The display driver freezes very often now, especially when it jumps to screen saver or when I attempt multiple windows.  Updated drivers but continue to have problems.

Anyone else having a problem where even though the power up quick test and memory test are disabled in the bios, the memory test runs anyway?  Never had this problem until P10.  Must push escape every time i boot up unless i want to wait the 5 minutes + for the test to complete. Seems strange...

Nvidia network drivers are crap.  Uninstall them and use the Windows drivers.

I hit Alt + F2 at the boot screen which automatically started awdflash and flashed the new bios.
