Yesterday I was working next to my computer when my PSU gave an extremely loud pop and everything on the circuit died. I pulled my surge protector from the wall and found that the end of the plug had been fried. After removing the PSU from my system I heard something rattling inside. I shook it out and found that a rectifier diode inside the PSU had popped. It looks like this managed to cause an arc fault and luckily the breaker had an AFCI on it. Luckily, none of my other devices that were plugged into the same surge protector was damaged. However, this is pretty terrifying, had this occurred on another one of my circuits without an AFCI I'm worried it could have started a fire. I tried to initiate an RMA yesterday, but after I submitted it I failed to receive any emails and don't show any open RMAs.

If there was a better fit of the plug to the socket would you still have the arcing at the tip of the plug ?

This scares me a little bit..are there any others here who have experienced similar issues or is that an isolated incident for now
