Hi

First post so hello all.

Just got my 3080 XC3 Ultra card and I'm a little concerned with the temps I'm getting. On Idle on the default fan curve I'm sitting around 55-60c and on load im hitting nearly 80c. I've now set the fan curve to aggressive and I'm idling at 41c, hitting 65-70 on load but its a bit noisy. Is this normal? spoken to someone with a MSI Trio 3080 and he is idling in the mid 30s and approx 50c on load.

What is the best fan curve to use and is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks

Martin

I had same problem on my 3090 SLI. You will need to switch to OC bios to get fans spin all time. They would idle 60C and in game or programs 83C. Switching to OC bios Idle temp 35-40C and in games and programs 77C both gpus

My XC3 Ultra is running at about 83C under load and 50C with no load. The fans are super loud. I've been messing around with undervolting trying to get the temps down but it hasn't been very effective. The evga 1070 that I replaced with the 3080 was dead silent in my case and never went above 70C. My PC case is a Corsair carbide 400q, with a bunch of noctua case fans.

what is it the tdp max in Watt if you see in gpuz when you have this problem?

i 've the problem opposite , my 3080 xc3 ultra i extreme cool , but the power max is limited to 315w for a problem to repartition power from connector end pcie

I had the same issue with my XC3 Ultra where at idle it would sit at 50c and wouldn't cool any lower. Once I modified my fan curves in MSI AB it now idles at 34c - 39c with a max temp of 71c under load (benchmarks and gaming).

Sure see attached image. Adding 100 to the core clock and 550 to memory was the sweet spot for me where my power draw didn't exceed 331 Watts with a peak clock of 2010MHz and sustain clock of 1995MHz. Anything above 2010MHz would cause certain games to crash. I also had noticed that with MSI AB installed my fans weren't kicking on until it hit 60c and by default fan curve loaded from the card's bios via MSI was my problem. Once I changed my curves to what's illustrated, I no longer hit 80c+ temps and my fans aren't obnoxiously loud.

I think the issue right now is EVGA Precision X1, you can't alter the core voltage curve like you can on MSI AB...
and MSI AB's default fan curve is complete trash, if you have the time to set a custom fan curve on there and not use evga X1 at all, you should be good to go.
hopefully they resolve this issue, also I've noticed, some issues with power target, for example not working as intended on X1...

    future patches should help

I agree with your point on issues with Precision X1. I hope that release an update to remedy issues we've been experiencing with in on 3000 series cards.

Out of the box the temps on my XC3 Ultra were stoopid high. Set a custom fan curve (easy for me as i can't hear the card over my AIO fans)

Now with a mild overclock and fans at 70% max I'm locking 2070mhz in games at 70-71c, Idles in the mid 30's at 40% and my NZXT H500 isn't exactly a high airflow case ;-)

May I know which version of AB are you using? I am using AB version 4.6.3 beta 2 but regardless what custom fan curve I use, the fans does not move.....

At idle, and without launching the X1, the card sits at 55-60 degree c, which was confirmed that this is the BIOS setting of this series of card.
After using in the X1 app, the card can easily sits at 28-30 degree c.

Just wonder if I need to launch the app every time I start Window?

oh yes, i have bad temps in any game i run ultra settings at 1440p ( 1080p its not bad).

    Check THIS out:

This is a screenshot of me playing Metro Exodus on EVERYTHING ultra 9 (raytracing :Ultra) and i hit 86c!  Ill put a pic of my PC set up too.

    Metro exodus hitting 86c:

    My PC Set up:

My AIO has 6 fans on it and i think it might be killing my airflow, but i should not be hitting THOSE temps, right? any ideas?

Yeah, I am experiencing similar situation. In a very large well ventilated case where my previous card (GTX 1080 with huge cooler) did not make a lot of noise, the XC3 Ultra is way noisier. It's idling right now at 210Mhz and it's at 55 celsius.
At full load (playing Cyberpunk) it hit 89/90 and it sounded like a jet. I am thinking of returning it for something with a beefier cooler.

The same for me, the idle is around 58 C. Gaming sounds crazy.

At idle my 3080 XC3 Ultra sits around 210MHz and 40c - without the fans spinning! I have it installed in an ITX case with some intake fans mounted directly below the card. Under load it peaks at 64. Most gameplay the card sits around 59c (CP2077), this is with a custom fan curve.

Yeah it is! In Win A1. I added on some 3d printed case feet which dropped the GPU temps by 5c!

I see the A1 Plus comes with feet like the one yours has. Is the PSU ATX or SFX?

No the A1 Plus is virtually the same as the old A1 physically.
The changes for the A1 Plus are:
    • The bottom acrylic is tinted/smoked instead of clear
    • The case now includes 2 Sirius Loop ASL120 fans pre-installed
    • The included ATX PSU is now 650W 80+ GOLD instead of the old 600w 80+ Bronze.
The bundled PSU on the old A1 was awful, so I swapped to an SFX Corsair SF750 80+ Platinum (glad I spent the extra back then, now it's paying off with my RTX 3080!).
Here's a link to the 3d printed feet (they raise the case up 20mm or 12mm, I went for the 12mm risers) Edit: It seems I'm unable to provide links, but it's on thingiverse.

So, my card  must have a good chip on it, I have the GeForce Performance Overlay and I was playing SW Squadrons, the GPU was running at over 2000Mhz stock it was around 2050. Then the temps got to 86/87 and it started throttling, went down into the 1900s for a while and then it stayed at 1750 for the duration of the gaming session with the temps at 83-87 and fans wailing at 2400 rpm. I am going to  play with the fans tomorrow but although impressed with the actual GPU, I don't think many have a case capable of having the intake fans blow right onto the GPU heatsink.

I have an update, I tried using the card with one side of the case open. When I finished with it, I went to remove the card from the case. The heatsink and the backplate were HOT. Are they supposed to be that hot? The CPU heatsink gets lukewarm during the same session (3800x+GAMMAX 400 v2).
