So let me preface this by saying I paid a fair bit of money for this card, as I'm sure a lot of others on these forums have, so by me saying this I want to 'try' and get my moneys worth. I don't want to have a card that doesn't seem to be able to cool down the card properly.

Now before you claim this be an airflow problem. I currently reside in a 16-20c room with a Corsair 680x with somewhat of a perfect Airflow orientation, I  have asked many other users about my Airflow and have been advised it's more than adequate.

For reference:
3 x  LL120 front fans acting as intake
1 x LL140 back fan acting as exhaust
1 x Corsair Elite Capellix in the traditional orientation

Image for reference:

So on stock settings if I'm playing somewhat of a high end game (max settings, 1440p) such as Cyberpunk 2077, Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition, Hitman 3, Death Stranding, etc as a benchmark to see what kind of performance I'm getting, the card gets to 70c rather easily, it will then float between 70-75c, usually sitting around the 70-72c mark for the most part.

Unfortunately the card I have also didn't do too well with the silicon lottery, I've tried .875mV at 1900Mhz but it doesn't do too well. The best I've got at .875mV is 1845Mhz. I've managed to get 1905Mhz @.900mV which hasn't crashed yet and this seems to reduce the temperatures down to 62-67c. My preferred voltage is 1920Mhz @.931mV as this seems to be a sweet spot for me personally.

Now over the past couple of weeks, probably the last 6-weeks, I've gone through a lot of cards, the higher end ones that I've gone through are:

Gigabyte Gaming OC AMD 6800XT =  This ran rather cool, which I was shocked at, never ever going over 65c at stock settings, usually floating at 60-62c in all games tested (apart from Metro: EE).

Gigabyte XTREME AORUS V2 3080 = This card also ran rather cool, but it was a gigantic card /w improved cooling, this ran 60-68c on stock settings but this card was prone to crashing, so I had to send it back.

Before this, I did have two other cards:

ROG STRIX 3060Ti (as you can imagine) this ran the coolest, didn't exceed 60c ever, in any game on stock settings.

Gigabyte Vision OC - this ran rather hot, on par with my currently GPU 70-75c on stock.

Now this card in the UK at the moment is available in abundance, there are a few places that are selling it and based on the current pricing, I managed to get it cheaper than anywhere else via scan by about £200. I got it for £1450 but it's currently going anywhere from the £1550-1650 range, so I thought I got a decent deal on the card.

Personally, I've never owned a EVGA card, I've always been a MSI/Gigabyte/ASUS user so this is my first experience and it's just not very pleasant. Scan have agreed to allow me to return the card as unwanted if I so choose to do so, but I'm just not entirely sure what I want to do at the moment.

Should I keep the card and just accept that it runs a little hot? or should I return it, get a better model, i.e. a STRIX and then be done /w this whole situation?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as this is all rather new to me.

Your temps are fine. You have the card, enjoy it. If you return, you'll have to wait weeks, if not months for a replacement.

What temps should I realistically be worried about? 80? 85 under load?

Right okay, EVGA are a lot more noisey, I've set an aggressive fan curve and have currently reduced the power limit to 80% which has helped tremendously and reduced power consumption down to 300-325 vs 400w, so that's decent and I'm getting 60-65c now, depending on the title.

If the card is running hot per your explanation then I see three alternatives:

1. Have Scan.co.uk replace the card if they have stock
2. Request an RMA
3. If you feel comfortable and knowledgeable enough you can try to replace the GPU thermal compound. So long as you don't damage the card you'll allowed to do this.

I'm a little anal myself mate, so that's why I'm a little concerned, like I don't mind sitting at 55-65c while gaming, that's fine, but to me 70-75c is a little hot for my takes and is not something I'd be prepared to accept from EVGA a top of the line company, one of the elites where GPU's are concerned and for the price that I personally paid.

I really hope you don't have issues tomorrow mate, best of luck to you. It's a fantastic regardless of the heat issues, it truly is.

i would definitelly be concerned if it was reaching 80C , 75C would be the limit for me , i would be happy if around 70C or bellow
is the ftw heatsink and fans much different from the xc3 models ?

You are comparing this card to others and that is NOT an apples to apples comparison. What those other cards ran at is irrelevant here. Your RTX 3080 Ti is capable of drawing more than 400w quite easily with a BIOS limit at 450w. It's no coincidence that the next "hottest" card you owned was the Gigabyte RTX 3080. That card had a power limit of 370w. Your temps are absolutely fine in the mid 70s and well within spec. You want the card to draw less power? Try moving the power % slider 80% or 90% target.

Your card has a power target (100%) of 400w with a limit of 450w

OP, not sure about your fan settings, but if you want to run the card at 400-450W settings I would set the front and bottom LL120's to max 1500rpm fixed, and the card fans to about 80-90% about 2300-2500RPM fixed, for gaming.  That should keep it around 70C, maybe less.  There is only so much you can do with an air cooler and normal fans with 400W card.  The fixed fans are easier to tolerate in noise and they will cut down on heatsoak, reducing system temps when the card occasionally drops power during gaming.

If you don't need the card running at full power for your gaming, by all means turn down the power.

Absolutely fantastic information, thank you my friend. You've really educated me here, I appreciate it!

Thank you Kevin, this is extremely helpful. I'm going to do this just now and see how things go, I should be all set after this. I think if I can get this to manageable temperatures before tomorrow, I'm going to keep it. Saves me all the hassle of sending it back anyway! :)

Your temps as is are more than manageable, they are well within spec and you could run this card in the mid 70s all day for the life of the card with no risk of hurting anything.

Hey happy to help.  Your fan config is optimal but the LL120's are just a bit undergunned for pressurizing a case and blasting out hot air.

Also keep in mind room air circulation and if the PC is sitting in a bubble of warm air vs. letting it flow out and up to the ceiling or out of the room.

I honestly don't mind replacing my fans, if they're **** then they're ****.

Do you have any recommendations for fans that are good at keeping the case cool and blasting out the air in an appropriate manner?

I'd say to run what you brought, see how the LL120's do for a while at 1500RPM.  But the most recommended faster pressure fans around here are A12's, ML120 Pro (2400RPM), 3K Noctua Industrial, GT2150, Lian Li Uni, EK Vardars, P12's and the new T30's.  They all have their strengths, lots of reviews out there.  I've also had good luck with some San Ace server fans I picked up off ebay for like $10 each.  Some of the above are quiet at higher RPM, but they all need to be run fast to flow more than the LL120, so not worth it unless you're prepared to run them around 2000RPM, and it ultimately might only make a small difference in temps.

For fun, try a boost curve of 1800mhz @825mv. If you like the results, please check my thread I started about power efficiency that I'm looking for data on from other users.

Your on an air cooled card with a 400-450 watt power limit, those temps are fine and within spec.
