Hey guys, I submitted a ticket for this but I was wondering if any of you had any ideas. Setup (also in image attached for other components) Mobo: Asus ROG Maximus Crosshair Hero VIII (Wifi) GPU: 3080 FTW3 Ultra CPU: Ryzen 3700x PSU: Corsair HX Platinum 850W PSU After about 9 days of having my new GPU I am noticing that the 4 red LEDs above the power cables will flash quickly, simultaneously, and at random intervals. When the flash occurs, I can see the RGB on the card temporarily freeze, and then continue normal function. I have not had any crashes, poor game performance. I am using 3 separate power cables, as specified by EVGA, and the PSU as shown above is more than sufficient for my power usage. I am not overclocking my CPU or GPU. I have a suspicion it is related to Precision X1, and the firmware for LEDs and power that it loads onto the card. When I initially set up the card, I downloaded PX1 from Steam, was prompted to update the firmware, and did so. It is only today that I noticed these LEDs blinking. I tried tinkering with PX1 Power/GPU temp slider by decreasing the temperature (with both linked) and I noticed that the blinking frequency increases when the target power is reduced. I reset everything back to default and the blinking frequency was decreased again. The other thing I've noticed is that the frequency of the blinking decreases with PX1 closed. I also tried running the VF Curve Scan and that appears not to be working. It progresses a certain percentage and then stops and is marked fail, even though it did not complete the scan, nor have the option to hit test. Game performance is fine, temps seem fine, I'm wondering if this is some software issue that could be addressed in a patch? Really don't want to have to RMA this... Any suggestions?

jankerson Just a bad card, take the RMA.
Is there really no feasibility for a software fix? The card seems to operate correctly, the symptoms seem more software related, not hardware. On the 2080ti EVGA had an issue with firmware with these same red LED's that was corrected in a software patch.

Like I said take the RMA.... Or maybe EVGHA can fix it with a patch or something. Wait for them and if they say RMA then just do it.

Just finished reading through your thread about the RMA you had to do. You said that EVGA resolved the issue, what did you mean by that? Do you have a new card now that works without any issues?

So I did some more digging, and found that my VBIOS was never updated from the stock version. Ran NVFlash and updated to EVGA.RTX3080.10240.201014 (downloaded ROM from tech powerup). The 4 red LEDs flashing infrequently continues even after that. I have continued to play games, and my fan curves appear to be working through PX1. No overheating occurring that I can see (using PX1 and ICUE to monitor GPU temps). LanLeskovar, have you noticed any performance hits or high temps?

There hasn't been a VBIOS update (except for a BETA, higher power draw VBIOS for the FTW3 series). If you're talking about the MCU update that PX1 pushes out, that's for the fan/RGB controller.

In any case the VBIOS was updated to a newer version, as you can see in the images I attached I had the 94.02.80.70 version, and updated to the newer 94.02.26.48.87 (2020-10-14). For the MCU version management, is there a way to check what version I have? Maybe rollback/force an update depending on the state that's in? I've already opened a ticket but they only answer during business hours, just trying to see if anyone else had a similar issue and/or fix.

94.02. 80.70 is higher than 94.02.26. 48.87 for what it's worth. But those two might be the normal and the OC VBIOS, or beta XOC VBIOS, though I don't have a 3080 on hand to check. You can check what the MCU is running by clicking the "i" in the lower right of Precision X1 (hopefully you installed the latest, 1.1.1). As far as I know, you can't force an MCU downgrade. EVGA might be able to do so at their depot, but we cannot.

Just checked the techpower up database: Yes, 94.02.26.48.88 and 94.02.26.48.87 (likely the .87 is the normal 0dB fan VBIOS, and the .88 is the 33% minimum fan speed OC VBIOS) are the BETA 450W VBIOS for the 3080 FTW3. It is a BETA and if you have problems, you should go back to your original VBIOS.

The blinking lights began before I updated the VBIOS to the beta, and remain unchanged. I am running the newest 1.1.1 PX1, was not prompted to update. Just got off the phone with EVGA support and the only thing they recommended, which I haven't done, is reseating the card. Other than that, they have closed out my ticket and did not recommend RMA...so I am kind of at a loss here. Looks like I'm running Firmware 2.1.1.4.

Stay on the beta if you wish. As far as them closing out the ticket - you said that your ARGB turns off / flickers when those lights come on? Sounds like a problem that can be fixed by an RMA to me, and they (EU support btw, or US?) are trying to get you to accept a card with an issue. Your ARGB light bar shouldn't do that.

It was the US support, told them about the ARGB quickly resetting when the red LEDs blink. The lights don't turn off, but the cycle resets itself, if that makes any sense. I honestly don't care about the ARGB at all, function over form. My concern is whether these are symptoms of more serious potential hardware failure. Guess I could go for a Cross-Ship RMA, what a hassle. Should not be paying this much for a brand new card to crap out so quickly. LanLeskovar, can you post a screenshot of the info the "i" button in PX1 gives, like mine? I'd like to compare.

has anyone found a fix for this? I just opened up brand new card that was sent to me on rma from EVGA and i am having this issue out of the box. This is after not having my original 3080 for 3 weeks because it just died on me out of no where. Now EVGA is saying I must first send them back the defective card that they sent me before I can have my second replacement. I can not go another 3 weeks without a gpu. This is crazy they sent me a defective card and now I have to once again spend 80 dollars shipping it accross the country and wait weeks with out having a gpu....I use evga for all of my builds i just bought a 3070ti for a client build and i have 3 other client builds in the works why would I use evga again?

Try installing Precision X and it will probably ask you to update MCU firmware, this could fix it. As an alternative, a user published a custom firmware update tool on this forums a while ago. You could give it a try.

i tried that I flashed the bios back to stock i flashed it to the 450w i used px1 to do it nothing works.. The card works and performs fine i just cant control the leds and fan number 3 doesnt act right. But no temperature problems. I am wondering if it is just a issue with the leds if i take the stock cooler off and put my waterblock back on from the original card if it will still have this issue. I am losing my mind and i can not lose my gpu again it would kill me i really need it

Ask EVGA for a prepaid shipping label. You shouldn't need to pay for the shipping multiple times.
