So I "upgraded" from an EVGA 1080TI FE to the EVGA 2080TI Black.  I purchased it directly through EVGA last week.  I installed it this past Friday.  I gamed all day Saturday no issues.  I played COD WWII.  On Sunday I started getting hard lockups where my screen would go black on my Acer Z321QU monitor and it would display no signal. In addition the fans on the 2080TI would go to 100% during the lockup.  When the lockups at first started to occur I could hear my game in the background with a black screen.  Now when it locks up during gaming I hear nothing and sometimes an endless loop of sound and my 2080TI fans go to 100%. I called EVGA and went through all of the trouble shooting steps.  They are sending me another 2080TI. My gut told me to stick with my 1080TI since people were having issues months ago.  I dont understand why NVIDIA is having such issues with 2080's?  Are they pushing them too hard?

    Hi,
I do not think there is a known or published reason why some cards are failing.
EVGA sending you a new card and that's what matters.

Start looking at your psu if your next card has the same issue. Oh, and make sure your card is using two separate pci-e power cables instead of a single cable that splits into two 6+2's.

I have heard there is a problem with Micron memory that has been used in the manufacture of the cards and they fail causing the problem.

I checked that power supply it is fine. It's also EVGAs best Titanium 1000W one. It was fine with my GTX 1080Ti. I will make sure to keep this in mind just in case it did go bad on Sunday if the same issue occurs after I install the replacement 2080ti

I know you already have a replacement card coming, but install GPU-Z and use that to determine if your current 2080 ti Black has Micron memory or Samsung memory. Back in November news broke that Nvidia switched from Micron DDR6 to Samsung DDR6 as micron memory was determined to be the cause of 20 series failing GPU's.

In January I initially purchased a 2080 XC Ultra which had Samsung memory and worked well. Since then, I upgraded to a 2080 ti FTW3 Ultra, which had Micron memory and was garbage right out of the box. Even with no overclocking and completely updated drivers it would crash in BF5 and Assassins Creed Odyssey. It wouldn't even make it through a full benchmark of Heaven without crashing Heaven completely. Even MSI Afterburner scans would fail mid-way through without giving me any OC results.

That card lasted in my system for under 24 hours before I pulled it out and exchanged it for another FTW3 Ultra from Microcenter. My 2nd 2080 ti FTW3 has Samsung memory and has been absolutely flawless, even with memory clocked up +1000. On this card, MSI Afterburner's scan even suggested an OC of +120 core, but I have it at +100 just for some headroom.

Some sources for the Micron vs Samsung memory switch:
    https://www.pcbuildersclub.com/en/2018/11/faulty-rtx-2080-ti-nvidia-switches-from-micron-to-samsung-for-gddr6-memory/
    https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1079421/geforce-rtx-20-series/rtx-2080ti-new-batch-gets-samsung-memory-/
    https://www.techquila.co.in/nvidia-micron-gddr6-samsung-rtx-2080ti/

I think anyone who buys a new 20 series card in early 2019 (like myself) should immediately check the memory to make sure you don't get a Micron DDR6 card, which somehow slipped through the cracks and made it to online/retailer store shelves.

all I did was run the scan tool and changed the fans to 100%. Does it OC it when you run scan?

I got my 2080 ti black in this week and so far no issues. I did have to losing the bracket and move the card down a bit; the display port out(s) were blocked...maybe this is a cable issue?

in a few hours or 2marro, use AB ^^, just to have fan curve enabled (in settings). use the default fan curve it comes installed with. i have with 1 of my two 2080-ti black cards. (got them 10 days ago.).

My card also has Micron. I have had zero issues.

And I purchased it in November.

I find the whole "Micron Memory is the issue" to be anecdotal at best.

I have a RTX 2080 Ti Black with no issues as it's also water cooled.

Make sure you're keeping an eye on thermals when issues arise.  They has a max operating temp of 89c.

could be vid driver corrupted by watever PX1 may have done.

    A. Use DDU in safe mode with network cable unplugged.

    B. Do a (Custom) Install nVidia driver with Clean install (check mark) and with only vid driver and physics drivers selected.

    C. If all is aok cool; but if not, repeat the whole DDU as described, if the 1st attempt does not resolve it.

The 2080 has more power cables needed than 2070?
    Larger input?

Ah yes I see they have a need for two cables. My 2070 is just one 8 pin.
    =/
