I hate newegg. I had no choice but to purchase one of my 2080Ti's from them (and it was the one that I had to RMA) but I went directly through EVGA for it. Happy to say I've only ever bought a few things from newegg over the years. I avoid them like the plague.

Crazy!! I hope someone high up on newegg catches wind of this issue and gets to the bottom of it!

Btw. I'd always side with rma'ing to evga over store! There quick and can cross ship as long as you provide a credit card to cover it just encase.

Used to get all my PC parts through New Egg for many years, always treated me quite well , even taking a new motherboard back for replacement no questions asked really.

Since the rise of Amazon though I have shifted more to ordering from them over the last couple of years, we get a lot of stuff in for our household here through them and with the free shipping being a Prime member it is kind of a no brainer. I did purchase something from New Egg here recently that Amazon did not have (the memory kit I wanted for a new build coming up).

Reminds me of an issue I had with compusa many years ago. I bought a graphics card in store. It was all shrink wrapped like normal. I brought it out to my car and opened the box right away and found my expensive card was swapped with a cheap nothing of a card. I went back in and the manager refused to swap the card. He said I had to file a report with compusa or something to that effect. After arguing I left but went back the next night and just did a return at the walk up exchange window. Lucky the guy didn’t know what he was looking at and I got my money back. I believe it was internal theft at the store and they tried to stick me with it. Unbelievable and I never bought anything there again!

Yep, that was the card I sent back to newegg. After updating the new bios and still having issues with random blackout screen. I decided to send it back for a replacement rather than getting a refurbished card from evga. in order to get any kind of tech support, you would need to register the card in your profile no? luckily I did that before sending it back to scam-egg.

The purchased was made directly by newegg and not by their 3rd party listing.

Yep!
Another lesson learned to only RMA through EVGA.

Re: Don’t buy from Newegg! 2018/12/13 12:14:59 (permalink)
No reason to go through Newegg when you can get the same stuff direct from the manufacturer (especially when it's EVGA) or from Amazon. Amazon now stocks pretty much any core component on Newegg for either the same price or less and is WAY better about returns, and you don't need to pay return shipping and handling if you need to send something back.

Years back I purchased everything through Newegg for my first custom build, thousands of dollars worth of stuff in a month or two timeframe. I had an issue with one of the components (SSD if I remember correctly) and I called to discuss a needed and valid return. Whoever I spoke to was absolutely obnoxious and blatantly did not care about my problem, even after I specifically asked... "So you do realize I've spent thousands of dollars with you guys over the last month or two? Does that not mean anything to you and do you not care about showing loyalty to your customers?" Simply replied, "No, we do not care about that at all". I hung up the phone on the spot, called immediately back in and got someone completely different who I explained the needed RMA issue and the rude conversation I just had. Luckily they were incredibly apologetic and took care of everything.

Despite it getting sorted out, I just see zero reason to buy from Newegg anymore when you can deal with manufacturers directly, who have great customer support (EVGA), or go through Amazon who will take basically anything back. Completely eliminates the potential headache.

It’s more of a story about not returning products to Newegg not that they are bad to buy products from. I personally though have found them to have gone downhill a bit and now normally look at Amazon first. It probably also because I use Amazon Prime shipping a lot and that can make a huge difference in some orders.

It seems Newegg has gone downhill since they changed hands. Seeing a lot of complaints in the last year or so. I hope you get this resolved correctly Allen. Please update us on what happens.

I guess buying with newegg in general is a bad idea. If this purchase was made with Amazon. I'm pretty sure this post wouldn't exist.  Trying to reach newegg customer service was also a pain. The wait time is horrible. each call I made takes 20-30mins before hearing a live person on the phone.

People playing games with these cards like they cost 100$. These things are expensive, if someone tried to play with my 1200 dollars I can't even tell you what I'd do cause it's probably not legal.

When you RMA regardless of what video card it is or any item for that matter take a photo of the item that includes the serial number. No matter what company you send it to.

I have been following this thread for a few days and I’m concerned about what I’m reading. I have used Newegg for 15 years with no problems, but this really makes me want to change my shopping habits. Several people are saying the same thing. Aside from amazon, have you guys found b and h photo to be reliable? Any place else?

I looked at resellerratings and Newegg’s numbers are still pretty good. They are better than b and h. Where are you guys buying your motherboards, processors etc?

Re: Don’t buy from Newegg! 2018/12/17 23:49:19 (permalink)
I used to buy from Newegg for 15+ years until I felt I was getting unsealed packages.  One was a $20 Network Switch on sale and once I complained they knocked the price in half in order for me to just except it.  Fine, I kept it for $10, not a bad price for a open box or used item.  The other time I think it was a GPU with no seal on the EVGA box.  I think it was a EVGA GTX 680 Hydro Copper which I ended up returning for the GTX 780 Classified Hydro Copper since it got released around the same time but since than, I haven't purchased anything of high price tag from them since.

I mainly use Amazon for my purchases now and other sites like Monoprice for networking stuff but can't stand the fact that these big etailers like Newegg, Amazon and the likes have given so much life to the scalping community.  I was watching the EVGA 12 hour stream, yup it was a long one and I joined it around the afternoon hours till the end and they had Intel as a guest where they talked about the way more affordable M.2 PCIe NVME SSDs from Intel.  The Intel 760P Series SSD to be exact iirc.  The 512GB should be around $130 and 1TB should be around $199 or less.  All the 3rd party scalpers are the sellers at this moment and couldn't find any of the big etailers selling it at the MSRP.  Sad, really sad.  Not to go off base here but this just shows how bad it has gotten.  Soon, only way to buy components will be marked up from scalpers.  A law needs to be written for this to be illegal imo and fined heavily for this to stop.  Again, this has to stop.

Anyways, back on point, I won't be buying any of my main PC components anymore from Newegg as much as I would like to because I feel they've gone downhill over the years as well since the 'switch'.
