Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between the 1080 Ti FE that Nvidia sells directly and the EVGA branded card?

Are they identical?

Identical. The only difference will be the nvidia stamp on the pci bracket usually.

You forgot to mention the biggest difference between the two.  EVGA warranty, customer service and the ability to change the cooler without the worry of losing the warranty.

That's exactly why when I decided to grab a Founders Edition there was no way I was getting another brand, especially of an identical card.  Options!  I can change the cooler if I want, step up if I see an option I like, or leave it the way it is and have peace of mind with the warranty support.

The card sold by nvidia is built & designed by nvidia. The card sold by evga is built & designed by evga based on nvidia reference design.

Let's see what happens. I'm guessing it will be delayed until Thursday.

I have been choosing the EVGA cards vs. "original" NVidia (even for the Founders Edition) due to flexibility to replace the stock cooler with water block without loosing the warranty. Also the EVGA option to buy the extended warranty is nice (even though the tech evolved so rapidly that in 3 years the today's king of the hill might be just a mid-range card. I thought I would be set forever with 3-way Kepler Titan SLI; 3 years later I am giving in and replacing them with 2-way 1080Ti)

Thanks everyone.

I didn't want to make another thread, so here's another question.

Just picked up a powerlink. It was $10 which seems about right for what it is.

The 1080 Ti FE has a 8+6 pins for power. I've swapped about the 8+8 on the powerlink to make it an 8+6.

On side where I plug the power cables in, it's an 8+8.

I'll be plugging both those 8 pin connectors correct? Wasn't sure if I would be leaving the extra 2 pin dangling like I would have if I was plugging the cables directly into the card.

Yes, you can plug in both 8 pin connectors on the PSU end of the PowerLink. That is how mine is setup for my 8+6 pin GPU.

If you have a moment, please rate my service. We appreciate the feedback!

Another stupid question: I know the cards are identical but does EVGA replace the thermal paste? Seems like the obvious answer is no but it would be cool if they did.

I agree it's doubtful, that's why I bought EVGA :)

Edit: for fun I asked EVGA and they responded:

Hello,

Unfortunately, we do not re-apply the thermal paste with our own thermal paste. You are correct in that it does not void the warranty if you re-apply the thermal paste. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,
EVGA

Question - Founders Edition cooler, is this manufactured only by nVidia itself? Or EVGA also makes 'em?
