I ordered 2 power supplies & a 1660ti
this costed me 279$ bstock / midweek madness
I got free shipping, paid for it, the following day UPS says i have unpaid import fees.. I'd be ok if it were 10-20$ whatever. but 127$??? for import fees?
EVGA policy says they'll refund refused packages and take out any shipping fees required that's including the import fees.

So im either stuck paying 127$ extra from some refurbished crap I thought i got a deal on or I refuse the package and given half my money back
THIS WASN'T STATED OR SHOWN CLEARLY AT ALL WHEN YOU GO TO ORDER FROM THEM all they say is additional fees may vary/apply after ordering. didn't think i'd be 127$

I called EVGA just to be told the first time i called: this isnt our problem its UPS's the 2nd time they told me they just wont take back the package or they take 127$ off the total price.
What a lovely christmas I have to deal with now!

That sucks! ... Yeah, Canada has a Goods and Services tax that you get hit with if you buy from a company outside of Canada.

I've seen this subject come up here before. This has nothing to do with EVGA, and they don't get the money from it or know what fees will be charged either, so they can't tell you how much it might be, all they can do is warn that there may be fees, which they did. It really really sucks, but unfortunately this is something your government has instituted. Vote them out. You could also contact UPS and say these are used/reburbished items and not new, and maybe that will have some impact ..just a guess though.

Yes, duty fees aren't ideal. As a Canadian, it's in our best interest not to buy products on the EVGA store. It's best to buy them within your country of origin than to deal with such high fees.

This has NOTHING to do with EVGA or UPS really.  Take it up with your gov., not these private companies.

I think that's the point of those fees to keep the funds circulating in the country.

Fact is - it's still best not to buy from another country if the fees are high regardless where they're coming from.

Once I bought from the EVGA store using about 130 EVGA bucks which made little difference due to the high import fees.

When ever I buy parts for the computer store I work at, they're predominantly coming from Canadian suppliers unless I can only get the item in the USA. Even then, the import fees aren't that bad, and I just bill the customer.

Yep, definitely look into who to contact in your govt. regulatory about import duty fees percentages on used/ refurbished items.  I would think it would be significantly reduced or waived...

Hi, and welcome to the forums. I understand you are frustrated and many have responded with very clear answers about whom is at fault here.

I am just curious why if you consider b-stock “refurbished crap”, why did you even buy it in the first place? I am sure you could have found some decent deals with free shipping from a local retailer which would have probably been brand new from the start.

    Welcome Guthix ,

As RainStryke said it sucks , but unfortunately you are now stuck.

Flip a coin if you can't decide what to do but either way your going to be out more money than you bargained for might as well accept it and move on as many of your fellow Canadians have learned (myself included).

For future reference and a side note to my fellow Canadians ..  here's another link to further complicate things  https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc..../courier/menu-eng.html

    - Any time you buy anything from outside Canada you are open to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for their "Interpretation" of what a product is and the amount of duty to be paid , that is determined according to the the various trade agreements between countries  , bla , bla , bla  = $$$  Hit #1

    - Then added to that is the Taxes GST , HST or PST that have to be paid on the items Full Value = Hit #2.

    - Also we have Brokerage Fees that appear with "Certian Carriers" (nudge nudge , wink wink) I try to avoid them at all costs . = Hit #3

    - Add in some shipping plus the losing 20-30 cents on our dollar and things can add up VERY quickly so as NascaC2 suggested if at all possible don't shop outside Canada , But if you do ... Beware there's hidden world of unexplainable fees , mystery taxes and phantom's that charge us extra ... just because they can.

    Take Care

    Hi,

I'm in Toronto and recently bought a NU Audio card which looks to have failed a few hours after installing it.

Anyway, starting the RMA process today.  Just wondering if anyone has experienced whether or not import duties/taxes are due on RMA items?  Would feel pretty hard done by for paying twice for a faulty card.  If I do, I'm considering asking for a refund and just buying at a local supplier or another soundcard entirely.

    Thanks in advance.

I've recently ordered a graphic card on EVGA, but canceled my order because I found better options (Stupid me, not better anymore after I lose a bunch of money). The credit card I was using took away more than $80 from this refund. Nothing wrong with EVGA, they take USD and return USD. But the bank (CIBC) decides I am buying(1.33) and selling(1.26) USD. As a result, I lost $80 for nothing. For the import fee, UPS is actually always trying to rip you with a brokerage fee, you can avoid it by going to a close-by CBSA office to clear it yourself. Here is something useful .  In general, I would suggest only buying anything here if you are 100% sure it is a good deal after adding up the importing tax.

I have heard of people getting their difference back because of exchange rates, by talking to their bank/credit card company. Contact them and explain what happened and see if they can help.

I called them back, and after some negotiation (offering partial, forwarding to the manager, blah, blah, blah), they did give the difference back to me. Thank you for the tip.
