Why wouldn't they just put us all in a que and make us verify that we are not a bot and as the cards become available they release them to us in order. Instead we have to just get lucky and have every notification on from every website on every social media platform just to see when they are in stock and by time we see there in stoick they are sold out

EVGA and NVIDIA absolutely do not care who buys the card. it's a sale. they'll never leave pre orders to elite members or pre existing customers, because to them it absolutely doesn't matter. they don't care that bots are buying the cards. they don't care that they're selling to scalpers. $800 and $1700 are just numbers they're more than happy to get from anyone. there's no camaraderie in business.

No offense but other than a need to vent, why do folks post the 'I did not get my XXX' threads?  It was utterly predictable that initial supply would never meet demand. I'm surprised, given Covid, it is going as well as it has.

100% this. Except that applies to all vendors not just EVGA. Hope that patience is one of your stronger virtues if you intend to keep your hair through this.

Yea businesses care about the bottom line but allowing bots to buy all the cards doesnt make EVGA sell more cards it actually probably pisses off people that were going to buy it and don't because of this bad experience. The cards gonna sell out either way why have all the bad publicity and pissed off customers when they can just verify that people buying are actual people

That is exactly the question, isn't it? There's only one answer.

That's the problem with monopolies. People can be upset, but if you want it and only one company has it, they got the sale. Sorry, I know there's AMD, but they've released 20 versions of "the ultimate budget 1080p cards" for years upon years now. So I'm not holding my breath for that.

No one. Therein is the problem and why AMD, so far, has not been a realistic competitor of Nvidia.

Because the companies know that as soon as the pissed off customer finds it in stock and orders all the bad feelings magically go away. This isn’t their first rodeo. They all know what they are doing and the companies know how to play the game and manipulate consumers better than we know what they are doing.

how do people buy it so fast? I understand bots will alert them to the product being in stock but do the bots also purchase the cards instantly? How is that even possible?

slacker! :) haha
the problem is by the time people NOTICE the stuff is out - it has been out and people are already buying it.
I personally saw it on nvidia @ 2:30 and ordered a 3090. I even told a friend on steam and he ordered a 3080.

After my order finished, boom, alert emails, NowInStock discord alerts, etc.. and the site blew up. Sadly, if you aren't there before the alert sites get see it - you are going to miss it (unless there is large stock or you are super fast.)

but the lesson for Baasha was not being on steam. I did look for you man.. but offline :)

I havent seen anything on Best Buy or Amazon yet

Amazon seems to list a dozen or fewer cards at a time, so they get snatched up really fast. I haven't seen much from best buy since launch day.

I have not even received an email from any of the few places I signed up (Nvidia, Mwave, Umart etc).
Not once have I seen any stock available, so I have a pre-order with PLE computers here in Australia.

I'm patiently waiting for a 3080 FTW3 Ultra, PLE say "6+" weeks.

Happy to carry on gaming with my 1080ti for now, but I'll need my 3080 for my HP Reverb G2 which is also waiting to come to me.

You aren't empty handed, you still have $1500.  I hit the same snag today, and thought about going for the 3090, but the performance/$ is not there.

Also if you are relying on nowinstock, you will be way too late.  That site is 5 minutes behind.  By the time your alarm went off, they were sold out.  You have to get lucky and refresh in that 2 minute window.

Meanwhile i wish we could know the actual numbers.  If there hundreds selling out in this 2 minute windows, then i dont mind to keep trying.  But if 1000 people are fighting over 10 cards, please save me the headache.

Keep in mind the companies selling these cards are okay with bots buying them not only for the basis of a sale is a sale, but after it goes on ebay, the warranty is no longer covered, evga is different since it follows serial number regardless, but for Nvidia, think of how many less 3080s and 3090s they have to worry about warranty support over the next several years. There were 300+ 3090s on ebay alone recently. That's almost a half million dollars of cards they don't have to worry about nearly so much.

Bots could be easily combatted by nvidia if they wanted. I mean they are the leader of AI and Deep learning. You are telling me they cant create a randomized captcha that requires unconventional input/output that bots aren't prepared for? Bologna.

But as said above, since its sales and bots equate to less RMA risks, you wont see this happen any time in the near future.

I got the notification, clicked it instantly, got to checkout and died like the rest of you suckers lol.

I noticed that nvidia is doing something different after the crazy rush of people getting notified today. After that happened, it seems that the "out of stock" is delayed from appearing for like 20-50+ seconds. I wonder if this will deter bots from getting notifications or spamming the add to cart which crashes the servers. I guess we'll find out next inventory fill up.
