Ya know....most of us can't spend money like we used too. Going to taco bell, we have to dive in our couches to scour for change. Just recently I seen a McDonalds fry hid deep in the cushion! Thinking logically, I should give that one wilted 5 month old French fry to my wife!!  I mean she hasn't eatn' in weeks. Well.....other than visiting her parents house which they didn't like me or invite me. But....what does a supportive man be without a women that has no job for over a year-half. My daughter is off to college now, am I supposed to be enjoying my mid 50's like this? Hm....so I thought this.....

I have a dinosaur rig....Right? I don't have a rich family. SUURRE....I'm Native American but....{SPOILER ALERT} just because you have Native Blood? does NOT constitute a pay day. Ooooops... got off track. So anyways....Main Question: Do you think I should double up on my GPU. Ya know...at least make me feel I'm "still cool". Add another 1070?. Or just leave her pass away gracefully

If I were you I'd wait until after the 1st quarter of 2021 to see if supplies get better.

Doubt you'd even be able to find another 1070 even if you wanted to.... but forget about that anyways , - so few games are SLI compatible anyways now-a-days it's not worth running 2x 1070's .

Yeah, it's not worth doubling up for the most part. You could paint a racing stripe or some flames on your case I guess?

Buy a prebuild like Donta did if you are in need of a upgrade

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Zero reason to run dual GPUs for gaming. Waste of money and power bills... just bank it or pay down debt now, so that you can get something better down the road

The rig you have described in your signature isn't a dinosaur rig, in my opinion, X79 w/4820k and a  GTX 1070. Maybe use some more mem(?). I don't know what res you are playing at, but I'd guess it's 1080p 60FPS. You are still sitting fine for gaming, even possibly 1440p at low/med gfx settings. No rush to upgrade, just like others said. Wait for the market to be desirable; you are not at as bad a spot as you think. Don't SLI (for gaming), get on the waitlist for an EVGA 30 series, and save up until that notification email comes months from now - or if the market stabilizes, whichever comes first.
Why do the parts not made by EVGA have them listed like that in your signature?

The 1070 is still very relevant, especially if you're playing at 1080p resolution. People are trying to scrape up 1060's and RX580s to have a GPU to game on at all. Count your blessings and hopefully the drought of PC hardware will be over soon.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. You cleared the smoke and put a better perspective on this horrible time. Juss a lil personal comment and I'm done with this. I think all the hardware these days are getting waaaaay outta hand. Who has the money? As I said; during this covid stuff I'm struggling paying rent, food etc. Unless your a billionaire or a child who's parents are. I dunno, I can't justify spending that amount of money.

I refused to pay scalpers out of principle. Can I afford it? Yes. But no way I am paying 1400-2 or even 3k for something that cost 600-800 bucks. The scalper prices could buy me a Dana 44 axle or larger or not even a Dana going with something more extreme. The scalpers are scum in my book. It’s why I went with a custom built to order PC with one of the cheaper priced system builders. If those of us with money to those with parents with money would stop buying the scalper prices what is going on right now would not be a thing.

I would hold off, see if you can score a used video card or something that's better. Or wait until things die down a bit. Or get a side gig lol.

Money aside if you can afford it or not I don’t like people supporting the scalpers. So much hardware laying around that could be used by others. I think it’s pretty crummy to scalp.

We need more thinking like this in the current CPU, GPU, console markets.
It gives me hope to hear from someone with that mentality... One day supplies will catch up and scalping opportunities will die down.

    Welcome back!

I'm not in major need of one but the Microcenter near me seems to be getting a few cards every week. Just this Thursday I saw them get RX 6800XT's and RTX 3060's. I guess you just show up about 30 minutes before they open and you enter a ticket system for the rare stuff. Just looked at their website and it seems they've cranked up the prices of their pre-builds about 200 dollars each so that's looking like less and less of an option as this gets worse. From everything I've been hearing and reading on the GPU shortages is that we might see a surge of NVIDIA cards soon once they release their new variants that are supposed to combat crypto mining but I wouldn't hold out for that. Just remember, your card is also worth a lot more than it normally is. I've been seeing GTX 1070's go for $400+ looking at eBay's sold data. If you sold your card, I would suggest looking at the RTX 2070 Super for now, you can get them for around $750.

It's mostly just GPUs. Most Ryzen 5000-chips are in stock at MSRP and RAM/boards haven't gone up much at all. GPU prices will crash again eventually... might take most of this year, but when they do you will likely be able to score a good GPU at a good price.

If you're looking to do some sort of upgrade, it might be a good time to add some SSD space to store games and programs, either sata or an NVMe on an AIC.  Like $50-60 for a good 512GB sata drive on sale or under $100 for a 1TB.

Terrible time to buy a gpu, but I'd get in que for the EVGA cards. 3060 is pretty reasonable price/performance, maybe a 30-50% upgrade from the 1070. The 1070 is worth about $400 on ebay, so it's a break even.  Maybe even consider a 3060 Ti or 3070 if you can get good money for the 1070.  That said it's totally not worth it if you're gaming at 1080P 60hz.
