Yeah, unfortunately they would consider that damage. Sorry to hear and see that the card died.  
 
Was this your first time using the Accelero Xtreme 3?  I have not used one in the past, but I think this alone (the thermal adhesive) would keep me away from trying this type of modification.

If it is a solder issue, can try the bake it in the oven trick?
If it is dead can't kill it any more.

Wow, this whole thread was frightening, upsetting, and just plain sad. I think it needs to be said that before you work on a 800.00 gpu in any form make sure you do the same procedure on some older cheap cards maybe and get a feel for what your doing.
