Hi! I've just get a EVGA GTX 1080 and hardware instalation is been smooth as silk. Unfortunetely starting the system shows no signal from monitor (black screen) and I am currently running out of ideas. Tried re-installing the graphic card again, tried different cable connections to the monitor, tried reading every single word from the users manual, but no luck. Have had no issues with my old 970 but this one seems a bit harder to tackle. GTX green logo glows fine, no weird sounds, beeps or whatoever. What else can I try if I can't see anything at all when turning the computer on?

When you said tried different cable connections, do you mean the ports on the GPU or different cables?

I have 2 hdmi cables. Tried them both and plugged them to the only hdmi port on the graphic card. I don't have DVI, or port connector compatible cables, but I am pretty sure the ones I am using works. One of them is the hdmi cable from the HTC Vive which I've connected from the card to the monitor just to give a try

Just to rule out every cause - can you provide a photo of the wiring inside your case?
Oh, and some additional Information would help as well.
Power Supply? Mainboard? Is the mainboard Firmware up2date? Does your Cpu have an integrated graphics card with which you can check BIOS settings while the 1080 is installed?

Try safe mode with networking then install GeForce Experience. After that see if the device manager sees your gpu. Worth a try what the heck, I've had that issue when uninstalling drivers with a driver uninstaller program in safe mode b/4

Try turning the monitor off and back on (while your PC is turned on and booting or whatnot) , i had some issues with the HDMI port on the 1080 and I ended up buying a displayport to hdmi adapter and using that instead

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Here are my specs, including my old 970 card I've been using so far. Motherboard: Fatal1ty X99M Killer CPU: i7-5920k 6cores/12threads GPU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4GB RAM: 4*8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport 2400MHz DDR4 RAM SSD: 500GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO Cooling: Corsair h100i Case: Corsair Carbide Air240 HDD's: 2 x Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM PSU: Corsair CX750M OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-BIT My Power Station supplies 750W which is more that enough for the recommended 500W Yesterday I tried installing back my old 970 and I am now having the exact same problem than with the 1080: no signal, no matter what cables or port combinations I try. This is freaking me out because unless I fix this no matter which card, I'll have computer no more.

Do you see anything when you start your computer? Does the machine POST (Power On Self Test) so that you are able to access the BIOS?

No The only message I get is that the monitor detects what cable am I using whether if it's HDMI or DVI, but that message is generated by the monitor itself. Nothing is coming from the PC I wonder how bat would be resetting the mother board by removing the lithion battery. Maybe that would force it to re-install the proper drivers if that were the issue, but never have done this before and not sure how risky is it

There should be a jumper for resetting the BIOS to factory settings - you should try this before removing the battery. Check your handbook for instructions :>

Try checking all the power cables are plugged into your motherboard. It is possible that your motherboard isn't booting at all, Try a different power supply.

When turning the computer on, all the leds and the GTX green logo glows as expected. The fan is spinning and I have no weird noises, beeps, etc. I think the card works normal and the mother board too. That discards badly plugged connectors, lack of power supply, PC to Monitor wrong cables, hardware malfunctions, etc. I reckon the problem comes from a non hardware front. Possibly drivers, BIOS or something like that. I can't wait to get back home and reset the mother board, but if it doesn't works, I don't know what else to try :-(

I've found the user manual online It seems it's not just 1 jumper to reset the CMOS, but 4 different ways?? Getting a bit confused now. 1-. By page 18 it reads the jumpers thing you mentioned (LEFT screengrab) 2-. Second 'dirty' option would be removing the lithon battery 3-. MIDDLE screengrab shows the layout from page 6. I've highlighted what it reads as 'Reset' circle. The description says it's called 'Reset Switch (RSTBTN1) 4-. The last screengrab, (RIGHT) shows the back of the motherboard (where I plug the mousse, keyboard, etc). There is a switch that read: 'Clear CMOS Switch' Why so many different ways? I am now confused which one should I try

Yes, tried a different PCI slot. No luck. Windows 10 updated a few days ago, but had no issues with the card I was using at that moment (GTX970) Problems has started when installing the new one

When you say no signal do you mean the PC isn't even booting at all? no BIOS screen, no beeps, no hard drive activity? You can tell if it's booting even with no signal due to beeps and watching the HD light. Does your board have an onboard display for the BIOS codes? you can watch those also to see if it's booting. If it isn't booting or beeping try reseating the ram, checking the power cables, reseating other pci cards maybe you knocked something loose installing it..

And no iGPU to try... I'm with the others. Try to reset the MB. I think your PSU is modular, so you might also try a different connector on the power supply.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Looks like everybody agrees on resetting the mobo will be the next step. I really hope that works. I will reset it with the 970 and the cables I had before all of this started. I know that layout worked. If it works and I can get up to Windows, I'll uninstall the drivers for that card. Then, will remove it and put the 1080 and see what happens next. If resetting the mobo doesn't work I will put my efforts on becoming the best ukelele player that the world ever met T_T

Screen 3 is a winner , use the external reset button (your item #4 above post) GL

You have the Asrock X99M Killer? Bios 3.20 6/28/2016 is the newest and resolved some issues with mine. Are you running this? If not, put the 970 back in, update and try again. Edit: Just saw that putting the 970 in doesn't help... Odd issue...yeah, agree with others, try resetting bios... http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20X99M%20Killer/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

If a cmos reset doesn't help then I'd suggest testing both cards in another computer at this time since both aren't displaying a signal.
