Hello and thanks for viewing my thread so as the titles says I bought an RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra but.... The problem consists like this: My PSU brand is Asus rog thor 850w Platinum, which is enough to run the card. The thing that I am most afraid is the PCIE cables which I heard they are quite a bit of a go and miss What I mean by this is that I don't want to use a daisy chain pcie? ( first time I heard that ) or other pcie cables from other PSU's because I heard this is a very bad mistake The psu came with 6 pin and 6+2 pin I am not that familiar with the PSU and how the GPU voltage are working because I paid a lot for the gpu and do not wish to wake up with a Burnt gpu and a PSU Can anybody please recommend me the cables that you guys are using? I am not overclocking anything and don't want to do that in the near future My pc specs are: i7 10700 non K 32 gb of Ram corsair vengeance MSI Mobo 490z gaming Psu its there GPU at the moment is 1080 ti which is of course EVGA! Thanks again and have a good day!

I think 850W is pushing it, personally...but yeah, don't daisy chain off of a single PCIe power cable. Use separate cables.... I don't know your PSU tho..

Always better to use 3 independent cables if the PSU permits it. 850 is the recommended spec but for efficiency I always go 100w above the recommendation by a manufacturer.

The cables that came with your power supply should be the ones that you are using. The PCIE ones, preferably one per PCIE power input on the 3090 (no daisy-chaining, which can cause issues).

The 6+2 goes into the GPU and the solid sides in to the PSU. 6+2 are the PCI E Power Cables. You will want to use 3 of them. Let us know if there is still anything else that might be confusing. However if you need further clarification you might need to reach out to Asus the manufacturer of the PSU.

Looking up the power supply you mentioned in your first post, the ROG-THOR-850P comes with three 6 + 2 PCIE cables. You would use those three cables to hook up the graphics card.

Nope it only came with 6 pin and 6+2 which would be quite odd this is what is powering my 1080 ti at the moment

contact your PSU Mfg & ask what cables they offer Does your PSU have 3 separate modulate PCIe power output sockets forrunning to a GPU? there are third party suppliers that make "custom cables"

If that is the only cable you have I would definitely suggest reaching out to the manufacturer of the Power Supply as they would most likely have replacement cables to send/sell that would be compatible with your PSU.

You would have to contact the PSU manufacturer and see if they will send you or let you buy a third pcie cable. Honestly, I would get a Corsair RM1000x or a really nice Titanium or even a Platinum 1000w psu at a minimum.

I don't think your PSU supports a 3x-8-pin GPU. You may want to try and sell that and buy a ~1000W that comes with 3x 8-pin VGA (or 3x 6+2-pin) cables.

ASUS THOR 850W Platinum ATX Power Supply Review - TweakTown it has UP to (3) dedicated VGA (PCIe for GPU) power sockets ..... two for CPU whichever of the three sockets takes the Least wattage .... connect the daisy chain to that - If it is an 8-pin (6+2) & not just a 6-pin off the top of my head - I do not remember the power draw on the GPU 3 PCIe sockets - I'll bet someone here know the answer to that

you can buy some of these: https://store.cablemod.com/configurator/ Put in the information for your PSU and then select the 8-pin PCIE cables. Pick the color, length, etc. Those should work. As far as I can tell from their website, Asus doesn't even provide a user manual for this thing, let alone accessory cables lol.

The ones ASUS recommends after you contact ASUS. Otherwise, you can try aftermarket ones like cablemods.

IF you could find the technical spec sheet of the Pin out of the and it matched an EVGA PSU you could get away with ordering the EVGA cables but without that , you are doing the right thing by looking for the correct cables, I would look to see if Asus has/sells extra VGA cables, I would have thought that 3 would have came with the unit. 8 pin on one end and 6+2 on the card end is normal , having an extra 6+2 extra tag is normal , you just don't use that part, I am surprised you do not have at least 3 . EDIT: looking at Asus web site the package said it includes 3x cables Power Cord x 1 Motherboard Power Cable x 1 (610mm) CPU Cable 1000mm x 2 (1000mm) PCI-E Cable x 3 (675mm) SATA Cable x 2 (810mm/860mm) Peripheral x 2 (450mm) Join the ROG badge x 2 ROG logo magnet x 1 ROG label x 3 *MB/ CPU/ PCI-E cables come with embedded capacitors in the middle.
