Hello everyone. I've recently bought a EVGA 600 80+ Bronze PSU and I have owned one before about 5 years prior. I've had no problems with my first one up until 5 months ago when the fan was "shaking" I'm not an expert on fans or anything but it almost sounded like the bearings were giving out or the fan was going bad. I would occasionally blow air on the fan and it would suddenly get rid of the noise but would slowly come back about a week to 4 weeks at most.

I went and bought a new PSU which was the same PSU as the one before (the EVGA 600w Bronze PSU) and thinking maybe this would get rid of this noise that's been stuck in my head. So I went and installed it and started my PC just fine. I then heard the shaking again... This is a brand new PSU and it's making a noise when it's on idle. Whenever I play games sometimes I'll hear it very faintly and will sometimes just go away completely. This is about a day old and making a fan noise. I know its not my CPU, GPU or back fan making the noise. Could anyone give me some info on what to do or what would be causing it? Thank you all.

    Welcome to the forums.

You can send/take the unit back to the retailer you bought it from (if other than EVGA) and get another one, or a refund.

You can Contact EVGA and get RMA approval for another PSU, or maybe a refund from EVGA if you bought it from EVGA within the last 14 days..See EVGA Power Supply Warranty for more information.

There comes a time when RMA'ing is not cost-effective due to the price of shipping, especially on budget units like a 600B..You can replace the fan yourself with another/better/quieter one of nearly the same specs..The fan is 120mm x 25mm and appears to be an HEC EFS-12E12H, 12 V, 0.25 A, 1500 RPM, 70 CFM fan..You can buy 120mm x 25mm case fans for under $15..You would need to cut off the connector ends and change them just using the + and - wires..There's lots of info/guides/videos on how to change a PSU fan if you search.

Replacing the fan is fairly simple but can be hazardous due to voltage stored in capacitors, and disassembling the unit will void the warranty.

One day you will learn to stop buying low end garbage power supplies. You can find good quality 80 Plus Gold rated power supplies on sale. I see them on sale every few months on sites like slickdeals.net.

Then by all means tell me a good PSU to buy the next time. I will gladly do so.

It's not that a Bronze unit is "bad" or "garbage"..It's just that there are better and more efficient units..With lower tiered/budget products come cheaper parts..Not saying that "cheaper" parts don't work, but lower tiered/budget products usually come with more rates of failure and complaints.

I didn't have much of a budget tbh. This psu was the first psu I had when I've built my computer back in 2013 so I figured I would go with the same psu. The noise has gotten a lot better per say. I was going to go with a corsair psu rather than EVGA. Although my GPU is EVGA. I do see what you're saying though.

Check out power supply reviews from review sites like these ones below.

EVGA G2, G3 or P2 power supplies are quality made units
SeaSonic Focus, Focus Plus power are quality made units

One thing i would mention is SeaSonic has a retailer handle sending review samples to reviewers, no golden samples being sent to reviewers, when you handle review samples that way.

You don't have to go crazy and get a Titanium rated power supply. Just keep an eye out for a quality made 80 Plus Gold/Platinum rated unit to go on sale. Every 3-6 weeks i see EVGA G2, G3 or SeaSonic Focus, Focus+ 80 Plus gold rated units on deal sites like https://slickdeals.net/.
