I gotta tell ya, I just tried the method you guys provided to update the bios with, and it didn't work. I felt like I had a dirty diaper in my hands. Until EGVA come up with a reasonably safe method for upgrading these GPU bios. I'm not touching this. Even in this Day and age $1100.00 in GPU's ain't nothing to sneeze at.

I don't even use a boot drive/disk when I flash the BIOS of mobo or vid cards. I do it all through windows. nvflash can be done in a DOS window. Not that big a deal. But you must reboot for programs to see the new BIOS.

just got a gtx 480 sc a few days ago direct from EVGA, the bios Reads 70.00.21.00.84 Isn't this a new bios? The temps seem a few c lower then my other cards and it's in the middle of the three. I have never flashed or copied a bios, can someone tell me how? I want to update my other 2 GTX 480 sc's with this bios! Thanks!

There is no more risk of a flash failing from windows than there is a flash failing from dos these days. If the flash is going to fail, its going to fail. Having done more then a hundred flashes from windows on various mainboard, gpu, and optical/hdd parts, modifying and injecting tables into bios's, adding or enabling bios menu's , you have more chance of the bios rom itself being corrupt than having nvflash for windows causing a failure.

I've never recommend flashing a bios for a GPU. If its not broke don fix it. Yes it voids your warranty. You can flash it back as long as theres not a catastrophic failure. I've seen gpu bios flash go bad. The card not work, flashed again it worked just fine. Know this your bios ver is marked inside the case. One of the first things they check. A bios will not make your chip and better than it already is.

I will be calling EVGA tesh today because of a cold boot issue that I have narrowed down to the GTX480 hence the reason I found this thread because a bios flash is the resolution but I fear for my warranty so I will not flash until I have been instructed to do so by them. That said for all others who care to do so with out permission vis this thread the link, [link=tm.aspx?&m=343442&mpage=1]EVGA GTX480SC BIOS Flash Tutorial[/link] By [link=showprofile.aspx?memid=589333]sirjamesddj[/link] is broken for what ever reason.

loveordie If any one whats this custom baked version of the SC 70.00.21.00.84 in FTW clock speeds i posted it up i've been using it for awhile with no problems.[<font] So the custom baked version is the latest SC bios set to the default FTW clocks? Any other changes to it, compared to the 70.00.1A.00.82 FTW bios?

im not sure what ever they updated in the 84 could be fan speed tweaks i running this bios on my SC with no problems it seem the 70.00.1A.00.82 bios versions for all 480's have more clock domains the reason i don't know, as i see it they have more clock speeds for idle when the newer version have less.
