Currently I've been using both OBS (the old one) and OBS Studio (the new one). I'm trying to record at 1440p @ 60FPS which should be an extremely easy feat (build is in signature). However, the recordings come out choppy (even at lower resolutions - 1080p) even if I use the "Ultrafast" preset for x264. Bitrate setting makes no change nor does changing the quality (crf) in the custom x264 settings. I've checked CPU Usage and it seems to only be using about 4 or so cores at any given time which is probably why I'm having so much trouble. I've also tried writing the file to both my WD Black & my Samsung 850 Evo to see if the disk IO was a bottleneck. No change.

I've checked the logs and out of thousands of frames recorded, only a very small number are late or duplicated (maybe 10-20) which is probably due to me being minimized out of the game when I start recording and then going back into it.

I've heard about XSplit, DXTory, etc. and was curious as to which program (free or paid) would give me the best performance based on your guys' knowledge and experience. I have this killer of a system and I just want high-quality recordings to be able to upload/post and re-watch for future reference. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried doing a fresh install of OBS? Have you tried recording at 30fps?

Might want to give shadowplay a try.

Haven't tried a fresh install yet but OBS studio is fresh and it gives the same results.

I might but I honestly hate GFE. I also heard that ShadowPlay quality isn't as great as something that uses CPU encoding. Maybe it's possible to record with ShadowPlay and enhance using Adobe Premier Pro or something of that nature? Just wish I could put this power to use.

You can use the Nvidia encoder through OBS as well instead of using GFE, just select NVENC as the encoder in OBS.

Thanks but I've done research and heard that NVENC isn't as good quality (at the same bitrates) as x264, which is why I haven't used it. I'll give it a try (as it will barely impact performance).

Why question is, why even have a 10-core CPU if I'm stuck with using GPU for encoding/recording? (obviously rendering will be the big difference over other CPUs but that's not the point)

If possible i would try recording to a SSD, see if that fixes the choppy recordings.

I stated in my original post that I tried to both my WD Black (HDD) and my Samsung 850 Evo (SSD).

I'm sure that it's more than likely that the software isn't/hasn't been optimized for more than X amount of cores/threads too and I may just have to stick with GPU encoding.

I would recommend D3DGear Game Recording Software, it is very fast and produce smooth HD movie. It is much better than OBS and other recording software.

I use PlayClaw but DX12 support? Nope. It does very good video and screenshots once you customize the settings to match your monitor.

mimoLive is the only alternative to livestreaming/recording software I'd recommend if you are having issues with OBS, it's not free but it is significantly better from friends I know that are using it now. https://www.boinx.com/mimolive/
