Baldur's gate 3, the sequel to one of gaming's iconic franchises, has just been announced. The game is being developed by Larian Studios, developers of the extremely-well received Divinity series, and will carry on with the lore of the series. The RPG game promises high-stakes decisions and forking branch decisions, where player's agency in the world is reflected and potentiated by writing and mechanics.

No information on the release date was available. Sounds interesting if Larian studios can pull it off.

Since they pulled off Divinity original sin 2 I would say they can pull it off. The Divinity game shows they can make a good turn based RPG that would be very good at capturing the feel of the original Baldur's Gate.

Should be a rare gem considering the junk that comes out lately.

Really RPG have had a lot of gems come out as of late like Witcher 3 or Divinity but it also gets a lot of button mashers in the style of Diablo 3 labeled as RPG games.

Thing is Witcher 3 and Divinity are not really "lately". Witcher 3 was 2015 and the last Divinity title was 2017. We're rolling toward 2020 in short order. Both titles do hold up excellently compared to anything truly "lately" though. When I think lately, stuff like Fallout 76 enters my brain and I pray to the gaming gods to be more merciful with dumpster fires for 2020.
