I have gotten an open box item when it should have been new, DOA motherboard, and my latest from a storefront called Hot deals for less, extremely slow to ship items. Getting to hate Amazon.

I have seen other webstores also have problems with open boxes.

Shock, only buy from amazon itself, not third party sellers. If you are saving a buck, you are taking a risk. It's generally better to specifically stick to prime purchases only and not buy unless you fully read the sellers reviews.. if you received an open box item, you need to read the entire page that you purchased from and verify 100% that it didn't show as open from the seller that you bought from.
When I list an item, I always put extremely high amounts of details as to what they are receiving and make sure to also list any faults. A lot of sellers will just list it on the Amazon store page and leave it as my that, but it should show "New in Box", "like new", "slightly worn" and so on if it is from a third party reseller or end user.
Could you post the link, if you don't mind, of the open box item? (barring anything embarrassing of course, lol) I would suggested accessing it directly through "Your Orders" so that it takes you directly to the item itself.

I will say this, I will never, ever buy a refurbished item from Groupon again. The present I got for my parents anniversary had scratches and boogers on it. No joke. Amazon is usually pretty good and their return process is super easy but sellers I found to be somewhat hit and miss.

Some of the reviews on Amazon are written by people who have diarrhea of the mouth. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if those people are being paid to write reviews or receive free product in exchange for writing a review.

I tend to not base my judgment on information by "the general public," as majority of the time they are utterly moronic, ignorant and incompetent... I mean, take Dre Beats for example, one of the most popular items on the market and rated very high on amazon; they retail at ten-fold what the base materials cost to manufacture and the bulk of the material-cost go to the box. Kids pummel each others faces in for those pieces of trash. Products marketed towards dumb people who are ignorant to the fact that they are dumb, you can lump Apple into that one as well. There are however rarities in there of both great knowledge and amusement!

Don't hold back RikkiTorment, tell us what you really think. I agree about limiting purchase to those from Amazon - less finger pointing if there is an issue. Otherwise, you have to read the fine print, reviews and Google the vendor. To your original question - Yes some folks get "free stuff" and write reviews. So, I will read verified purchase review with a grain of salt.

I don't know why people think this is a problem with amazon directly.. it is not. Amazon sells things and so do third parties. Do your due diligence and look on the page to see who the seller is, its not hard to miss. I've been a prime member for several years and actively shop/Sell on Amazon and eBay. Reviews from Amazon are a bit different because you will not see seller reviews on the item page unless you click on the seller itself. Reviews should always be taken with a grain of salt but if the seller has a high percentage of positive feedback then it should be an easy decision. Like any times of reviews people more often than not only leave a review for someone if its a negative experience and rarely take the time to write one for a positive one. I've sold probably 50+ things on amazon and have only had 11 people give me feedback. (all positive)

I've always had good luck with Amazon and I've been using them for about 7 years. I always filter the reviews and view only those from 'verified purchase only' and I show all from 'most recent'. I then go to the last (first) page to see when the product came online. With all electronic products, some are going to be lemons, that's just the nature of the business, so I don't pay any attention to the bad reviews. If the reviews are mostly positive, that's good enough for me. I have also had very good luck with 3rd party sellers, but I always make sure it comes with free shipping and handled by Amazon. I just ordered a new Samsung printer from the 'Ankar Group' through Amazon, free shipping and no sales tax. Ordered 11/28 will be here 12/7. Most of my orders using Amazon arrive in less than a week, some have been longer, but once I got one two days later. I only order with free shipping, and it seems like using a third party might be a way to avoid paying sales taxes. I'm just getting ready to place an order for the SanDisk Ultra 32GB Micro SCHC/10 (Old Version) for $10.99 (free shipping). Somehow this card just showed up in my shopping cart, so I'm thinking it must be some kind of a Christmas present from Amazon. It seems like a great price, and I remember buying something similar awhile ago. Now all I have to do is spend another $25.00 to get my total up over $35.00 to qualify for free shipping. Not a problem.

That's days after they actually ship the item - give it to USPS

Absolutely not. Many are paid and say it outright. Many are paid and don't say it outright. Many are fake and/or from company employees or even competitors. It's a cesspool over there. The rating system on them is abused as well. Go check out the highest rated reviews for Crest White Strips as a great example of this. I've clicked a few highly rated reviewers before to check out what is going on and it's pretty easy to determine there is a lot of fake reviews going on. Not only are the reviews mostly paid for but even the a lot of the product listings are counterfeit and/or literal rebrands of other products. You really need to check into anything you buy on Amazon.com these days and don't even consider the reviews section. Most of Amazon's highest user rated/best selling items are just poorly manufactured cheap products. Amazon.com is also fast and loose with your email resulting in being harassed by vendors in which you never agreed to be spammed by.

If you see top 500 reviewer on Amazon, it's safe to say that person is being paid to do reviews or they receive freebies for giving bias review. No company gives freebies to people with no strings attached. If you don't write a fluff review for them, they won't send you any more free products. If money is to be made, people will find a way to game the system. Amazon.Com won't sell an open box item without noting that it is open box, especially if it is coming from their warehouse after direct purchase from a manufacturer. Third party sellers don't care and will gladly sell open items without proper notice. I think that was the point of nzo12's post, not the reviews portion.

Amazon has filed suits against companies selling Amazon reviews on multiple occasions. There are plenty of methods for businesses to directly pay a handful of people, or indirectly hire bots to leave favorable reviews. It's been a common online business practice for years. Typically I assume most reviews are not trustworthy by default unless the website in question denotes the reviewer purchased the item from them.

WOW! That's cool! I have a Gigabyte motherboard, and I don't like it. While the LED software has somehow remember my setting to keep the green LEDs off, if I RUN the program, "App Center" it will completely blue screen the computer when I attempt to run those programs. Not only that, but when I change fan speed, it's labeled as "1.00 PWM" "1.25 PWM" "2.50 PWM" "Full Speed". I want the RPM numbers if possible!! Do other motherboards provide an easier way to look at the fan speed. I just really don't like the UEFI layout on this board, it really seems to make things much more complicated.
If you use a computer at night, check out f.luxResearch: https://justgetflux.com/research.htmlDownload: https://www.justgetflux.com/This reduces how blue (6500k) the screen is and looks better once you get used to it - the getting used to may take up to a week! Your screen will be "more orange" at night but it's for the best. In about 20 minutes your eyes won't even notice. A white paper should match your screen, maybe play with the monitor settings to get it closer.

Pretty sure that is what nzo12 was going after. Which is the exact reason why I will only buy products that are sold and shipped by Amazon.com unless they just don't carry it for some reason. If the item is sold/shipped by Amazon, you have a really low risk of it being a counterfeit item. And if you did get one, Amazon would easily take care of you (refund, etc.). Where if you buy from some random store, you have no idea if they are going to play nice or not.

I really like Amazon and my name is all over the reviews for the things I buy. I always wait for a month or two before reviewing anything.

Another thing I've noticed with Amazon Reviews is that they seem to lump reviews for a name type and similar product together. Case in point, I recently purchased the Blu-Ray of 'Blade Runner: The Final Cut', but the reviews also include the standard DVD version and other versions. It also happened when I wanted to get reviews for a specific item but all related reviews are included. Take reviews with a grain of salt and only buy something you know is good.

RikkiTorment ASRock is owned by a subsidiary company of Asus named Pegatron, so ASRock is essentially Asus ;)
ASRock was spun off completely from Asus. Since 2010 Pegatron has been spun off and transferred to it's own wholly owned subsidiary. Since then Pegatron and it's subsidiary ASRock have been completely independant of Asus.

If you are shopping through Amazon make sure its either "fulfilled by Amazon" or from Amazon directly......not much in the trusting part to third parties. I feel the same way through Newegg.
