Looks nice but wouldn't it make more sense to put the big plate on top since heat rises?

It looks nice, but how's the temps. MSI m.2 heat shield on the M7 Gaming mobo, it increased m.2 temps.

One things for sure, it would help to protect the m.2.

I think the majority of the heat producing components are under the big plate possibly. That is the side that would face away from the motherboard when mounted to an onboard M.2 slot.

A passive heatsink is one thing, but a waterblock.... That seems extreme to me.

I guess it's for people who are nuts about water cooling everything, kinda like those who want RGB on everything.

It's great and all but you don't have to many options for when you have the built in M.2 slots.

Case - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X
    Mobo - EVGA X570 FTW
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
    RAM - 32GB Trident Z Royal 3600MHz 14-14-14-34
GPU - EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming
    PSU - Seasonic Prime TX-1000
Heatkiller IV CPU Waterblock / Heatkiller V GPU Waterblock
Heatkiller V EBC Active Backplate / Two Heatkiller Rad 360 L
    Six Noctua NF-A12x25 / Heatkiller D5 Pump

I haven't used an M.2 in anything other than modding a Dell Latitude laptop in the past.  Do they really get that hot?

They do get hot but once they reach their max operating temperature they start throttling. The Samsung 960 Pro can reach close to 70 degrees Celsius for example.

The small plate on the evo is for the back, you can use double sided drives with the evo but the mini for your m.2 board slots can only be single sided.
