It happens, and it's normal. Nothing to be bummed out about, sometimes things don't seem as enjoyable or as interesting as they once did, and you just fall out of an interest. It happened to me in 2019, but then I sort of slipped back into this "hobby" last year. Sometimes you regain interest, and sometimes you don't.

I dunno, it's been a roller coster for me. I grew up with no PC or internet until middle school, and shortly after High School the PC I bought myself died. Replacing it wasn't a big priority, and it fell by the wayside. Now 6 years later I'm back, and I seem to have forgotten most of what I learned, but I remember just enough to say to myself, "I swear I used to be able to do this." I' m getting back in the saddle though, and it feels good. Just started OCing my b-die RAM.

RAM overclocking is the worst once you shoot beyond 3600MHz CL18.

I'm hitting something like CL 16 3733. It's actually been giving me a hard time though, it's giving me failures to post at OC/timing combos the kit *should* be able to handle. 300$ not well spent. :^(

300 for a kit of that caliber isn't that bad actually. I have over twice that in one of mine. I have a 4X8GB kit that does 4266MHz CL17 but only with tweaking even on an i7 9700K because it has no hyper-threading, even then it requires 1.5V and I needed an exceptional cooling solution to make it work. It worked on an i7 8086K and i9 9900KS but not the regular K model. From what I'm reading it should work with the new 11th gen stuff, I just don't have the interest at the moment. I backed down to a 4GHz kit with CL18 and it seems to work great. Low latency is great, but some games seem to favor the higher frequency.

It's not the worst, but I've seen cheaper kits hit way better numbers. Mine is failing to boot on configurations working on other users' cheaper b-die kits.

Might have less to do with your age and more your life situation. I too am a parent and that seems to shift priorities pretty dramatically. You don't really start getting your life back until your youngest is independent.

It's normal for interests to change over time. Things that used to seem important may suddenly seem frivolous, and things we used to take for granted may become the very things we cherish most.

The closer I get to buying new components, the more interested I am in researching everything I need. When I don't have to buy anything I might look here and there but won't really read as much.. knowing me I'd probably get annoyed I don't have the latest tech. Also... I'm still in my 20s, used to be active in forums 10~ years ago and this is the first one in a long time. With Instant Messaging becoming widespread, forums feel a bit "obsolete" compared to, say, Discord. They do have their charm but most people prefer live conversations compare to writing a message and having to wait. Oh, and Reddit (and other boards online) kinda took the place of forums.

That's crazy to think your dad's posts have been immortalized, and now you theoretically can see whatever he posted before you were even born. The internet's one heck of a thing...

Its all about the time in your life, since you are focusing on career and family, you don't find time for this stuff and to be honest its good that you prioritize those things. we don't have a life so we know every bit of gpu and new shiny tech stuff because that's our life for now at least !

For me it goes in swings, Ill be current on all the latest tech, overclocking and so on. Then take a few years off and repeat. Usually get back into it when I'm about to build a new rig or a exciting piece of tech drops. Was in to overclocking in 2012 took about 6 years off and got back into it last year.

I had a 970 for five years up until last year until it couldn't handle zelda BOTW emulation and I started looking at a new setup. Ended up getting 3600x and a used 1080ti (luckily before the massive price hikes) with every intention of getting a 30 series card when they came out. No luck so far and I flatly refuse to pay scalper prices. I think if I get a 3080 or even a 3080ti and possibly upgrade my cpu Id be set for another while. The 1080ti is performing admirably but Ive gotten into VR recently and while it's decent its not the best.

Yeah this is very relatable. I'm just starting my career now and am already frustrated that WoW Classic TBC just came out and I hardly have the time to put any hours in it. I guess I should be happy that I have a healthy social life and prioritize that over games, but it's a shame that I have so much less time outside of that than I did in college to play games.
