I've certainly fallen in and out of my hobbies over the years. Usually come back to them in time, I think it happens to everyone at one point or another.

I think for myself personally, being in a gaming community/clan was the best. I would always have people to play with after school and there would always be some sort of shenanigans going on the teamspeak server. But as life got hectic with uni/work it all just sort of got lost. I think that's how it usually goes for most people

It sounds like you might have found something better to occupy your time. Good for you :)
My challenge is that I am in the industry.  While that does help me keep up (as my job demands it), there are several drawbacks (beyond the fact that I will forever be a nerd).
For example, I constantly see what is 2-4 years out... which means I can never appreciate what is presently in front of me.

I've certainly experienced burnout in different hobbies and it often feels like what OP is describing. I also think that sometimes you can stop caring about all the little intricacies of your hobby while still enjoying it because you reach a point where you realize what actually matters to you in your specific hobby. At some point you may get a feeling that knowing the CUDA core count of each GPU doesn't really increase your enjoyment of using your new card.

I'm a little late to throwing in my 2 cents, but I don't think it's all that concerning to no longer hold the same level of interest in something as you get older.  For the most part we're always changing, and inevitably this leads to a change in the things we enjoy or take interest in.  That's not to say someone can't be interested in something for decades, but I wouldn't be concerned if that's not the case.

Do you mean like going to the forums or just enjoy tech as we get older?

I think it’s largely due to circumstances. You just sound like a busy person.

I'm 3.....4? 34? Or 33.... I find when it comes to Forums it is a lot harder to maintain interest due to trolls, and people asking the same questions over and over again. It feels like the effort put in just isn't worth it. I have noticed as well that with the increase of population of forums, the less community there is, and thus the less incentive I have to communicate.

I use online gaming to hang out with my brother who lives across the country. Even still, I have less motivation to stay up all night gaming because I know the next day will be horrible. When I was younger I could coast through classes easily, not true these days with work.

29 here. When im about to build a rig I educate myself a lot on the current market offerings but once my build is complete I usually check out for a few years until its time to upgrade again.

I haven't really had time to play games after having a kid. I just like to be prepared for when I will have time to play someday...

100% it's the time and outside obligations. Can't focus on hobbies if you have to keep food on the table and take good care of your family.

I went through something similar.  I had to discover other things I liked about gaming.  I'm never going to have the time to dedicate towards competitive gaming or MMOs like I used to, but I can still scratch the itch by playing difficult games like Bloodborne and the like, so that's been my go to.

So when i was younger, early to mid 20's say 05-13/14 i was super active on forums, i followed the latest news, could quote fixes, hardware specs ect, but as I've gotten older I've become less active, I don't try to learn all the new stuff, there was a time I knew the specs of every new card, but i can't even tell you the basics of the newest RTX cards, i just don't pay attention anymore. Is this just a general burn out slowly over the last few years, is it the nature of getting older, or is the nature of family+busy career giving me no time. I've honestly been disinterested in even going back and learning, and I'm only 33, it seems to young to reach this point. Anyone else ever come across this, or is this unique to me

Are you me right now? 33 year old male in Fort Worth lol I feel the same...

It comes and goes for me. I’m 38. I get obsessive. So when I find a new project or idea, I read every forum, research the main options and then try to get the best so I only do it once. Right now I’m learning about graphics cards because I’m trying to track one down for a friend so here I am. That keynote by nvidia was really awesome.

I just got into the PC game for a little bit. I read PC news and stuff here and there but now I am invested in reading and watching news about pc and technology everyday. But right now, I am only a student so I have some free time to pay more attention to it, who knows in the future if life gets in the way.

Same here.  I am 50 now and I used to keep up with hardware news and the newest stuff coming out for PC's.  But after my son was born, I quit following stuff like I used to.  Don't have as much time to game or do the things I used to do.  I was so out of it that I had no idea about this shortage until Feb after I got the stimulus check I figured maybe this would be the year I finally did a PC upgrade and to my woe I found out about the great GPU(and CPU as far as AMD anyway) shortage of 2020/2021....

It comes in waves for me. I build a new pc then stop keeping up to date with everything. Then once I need a new pc I go deep again. Never ending cycle.

I'm about a decade younger, so I can't speak to what it means to truly grow out of something after so much experience with it, but I do find myself to be someone who enjoys change. I never really stick to the same hobby or interest for too long (except for being a hobbyist Professional Casual Gamer(TM)). I used to be the leader of a clan back in the antediluvian lands of the original Halo Trial. Even that interest in gaming has come and gone occasionally, but I always come back to it somehow. Change can be pretty cool, especially when it leads to new interests. I wonder how many Halo: Combat Evolved easter eggs and glitches I'll be able to find/perform from memory ten years from now...

I'm relatively new to computer parts, but it's been a blast learning about the tech that has been pushing through. Really quite an eye opener when you get a huge upgrade and see how much smoother and more vivid everything looks at higher settings. I probably see myself still looking at hardware, but I'm not going to be looking for upgrades all the time.
