The PCIE 4.0 riser cable was kinda expensive...

Its strange it shows an image was attached but not the image. Must be a server side issue?

just installed it yesterday.  I will get a better pic at some point in the future with the glass side off so it isn't just a giant glare when I get the cabling squared away.

Yeah, its a little weird. First time i ever tried to upload a pic so not sure if i did it right. But on my computer i was able to hover my mouse over the left side of the box under the word attached and it changed to a click cursor. Clicked it and it brought up the pic.

How are the temps with it mounted like that? I get my card today and am planning on doing the same.

That's so weird... still see mine fine, but not ranger's.

Temps are pretty good... almost never see them go past 70c and usually stay in the 60's while gaming. However I do have spacers between the side and the glass so there's close to 1/2" of air space from the card's fans to the glass.

I’m so confused looking at your pc...Is that a dual build with a motherboard up top and one at the bottom?

This is with the 2080ti but it will look exactly like this once i get a block for the 3090 but with better plumbing (to and from gpu are soft tubing for the moment as the 3090 is a smaller pcb so i didnt make that part hard tubed)

cant wait. I'm getting my 3090 on friday which is obviously air cooled but i will post images with stock cooler once complete. I'll have to take out second loop unfortunately until evga/3rd parties get some water blocks

Nice! Have any of you ever rotated your card/or pump between horizontal and vertical (before fixing it in place) while the pump is going to notice the sound difference?

On normal speed for me it was the difference between dead silence and noisy buzz.  Hence why my building interest in vertical mounting.

This one! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0898W3THZ/ -- really expensive but it turned out my gen 3 riser was only working in x8 and I wasn't good with taking that hit XD

Nope -- it would be, but I put a spacer behind the glass so it has about 1/2" gap between the card and glass. I needed the spacer both vertical and horizontal because otherwise the power cables got squished :/

*edit* misunderstood your question here! No it’s got at least an inch from the front of the card to the intake fans. The case is for up to xl eatx so it’s compact but kind of... bigger on the inside.

Not that bad. PCIe3 ones run 30$. But that is really odd. Maybe your old one was really just PCIe2? What case is that though?

It’s this one but in white (which only comes with glass front but I bought a mesh front for it and painted it white): https://www.amazon.com/An...-Gaming/dp/B07NWHFMXP/

The riser card was supposed to be 3.0 x16 — the company is sending me a new one but I found after a few of the reviews mentioned it was only running at x8 so we’ll see!

I am so against fan noise I bought a 400 dollar i1600 psu simply because the fan doesn't come on until 60% load... which has never happened lol

thanks to this thread and spoonyspork I looked at my PCIe usage and mine is only running at 8x.  that is really disappointing because it came with the vertical mounting bracket from Phanteks and was made for my case.  I am going to shoot an email off to them tomorrow and see if they have another option that will work better than the cable that is packed with the kit.

Yep! I'm not good at pictures, but here is my vertical mounted 3080 FTW3 Ultra in all its unicorn puke glory!

The PCIE 4.0 riser cable was kinda expensive...

*eta* Try https://imgur.com/a/m0DEnKJ if the image doesn't show for you. It's not even a good pic, lol

What riser did you use. I was looking for a PCI-e 4.0 riser the other day and was not finding anything that instilled confidence other than one from amazon.

This one! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0898W3THZ/ -- really expensive but it turned out my gen 3 riser was only working in x8 and I wasn't good with taking that hit XD

Thanks for the photos! Mehappy :)

Spoony is your card actually pushing up against the intake fans?

Nope -- it would be, but I put a spacer behind the glass so it has about 1/2" gap between the card and glass. I needed the spacer both vertical and horizontal because otherwise the power cables got squished :/

*edit* misunderstood your question here! No it’s got at least an inch from the front of the card to the intake fans. The case is for up to xl eatx so it’s compact but kind of... bigger on the inside.

yup that was the same one I found of Amazon. Glad to hear it actually works, maybe I'll go that route too. It would look pretty sexy in the Phanteks P600s case I am going to use.

thanks to this thread and spoonyspork I looked at my PCIe usage and mine is only running at 8x.  that is really disappointing because it came with the vertical mounting bracket from Phanteks and was made for my case.  I am going to shoot an email off to them tomorrow and see if they have another option that will work better than the cable that is packed with the kit.

Yeah that's the riser cable I was using! The Linkup one is working great so far: reports 4.0 and x16 and benchmarks are slightly higher than average at stock.

Finally saw your build pic and that's freaking awesome. I was looking into a dual build a while back and ended up building two full PCs instead.

I looked at the cable on amazon you linked earlier tonight and unfortunately it will not work for me as I will need a 90 degree cable and the only one listed is a 10cm cable.  I have not measured it but I am really sure thats going to be too short.  the one I have now is 22cm and it fits perfect.

it just kind of sucks because this is the "updated" cable from Phanteks.  this kit used to be packed with a wide flat single cable.  this one is the "better" cable that is 6 smaller cables side by side.

and thanks!  my office doesn't have a TV in it because I didn't want to rent another cable box, so I wanted to build up a media PC.  but at the same time I didn't want to have 2 separate computers on my desk.  so a dual system built was just what the doctor ordered.  some years back when I was planning out my 6850k build I dabbled with the idea of a white build.  I have always liked the looks of them.  but finding white parts can be rather difficult so I never did it.  but I always do like looking at them.  so very nice on that one.  :D

It would be interesting to see how the FE and other cards do for vertical mount heat. It might be harder for the FE new cooler.
