Hoggle
It would be interesting to see how the FE and other cards do for vertical mount heat. It might be harder for the FE new cooler.

Wow really? The mount direction can affect heat?

thanks to this thread and spoonyspork I looked at my PCIe usage and mine is only running at 8x.  that is really disappointing because it came with the vertical mounting bracket from Phanteks and was made for my case.  I am going to shoot an email off to them tomorrow and see if they have another option that will work better than the cable that is packed with the kit.

Yeah that's the riser cable I was using! The Linkup one is working great so far: reports 4.0 and x16 and benchmarks are slightly higher than average at stock.

Finally saw your build pic and that's freaking awesome. I was looking into a dual build a while back and ended up building two full PCs instead.

I looked at the cable on amazon you linked earlier tonight and unfortunately it will not work for me as I will need a 90 degree cable and the only one listed is a 10cm cable.  I have not measured it but I am really sure thats going to be too short.  the one I have now is 22cm and it fits perfect.

it just kind of sucks because this is the "updated" cable from Phanteks.  this kit used to be packed with a wide flat single cable.  this one is the "better" cable that is 6 smaller cables side by side.

and thanks!  my office doesn't have a TV in it because I didn't want to rent another cable box, so I wanted to build up a media PC.  but at the same time I didn't want to have 2 separate computers on my desk.  so a dual system built was just what the doctor ordered.  some years back when I was planning out my 6850k build I dabbled with the idea of a white build.  I have always liked the looks of them.  but finding white parts can be rather difficult so I never did it.  but I always do like looking at them.  so very nice on that one.  :D

On that same amazon listing there are options for 90* 40 and 50 cm options click the bottoms or drop downs depending on app/website

I heard they clock 100MHZ higher with a vertical mount.

You are joking, right?
I could be wrong but I believe Steve Burke measured temp and vertical mount raise 1C in case which means possibly lower clock, not higher.

There are many ppl that report very slightly higher scores in 3dmark with vertical mount. Regardless, I plan to watercool and it's way easier to tinker around when you have the gpu separated from the mobo

well, now I just feel silly.  I started taking my vertical mount out to horizontally mount the card so I could go back to Phantex with all the information I can, and the cable was plugged into slot 3 not slot 1 on the board.  also, as promised, side door open shot.

Sorry, my comment was related to air cooling.
You are right about watecooling. It is different heat transfer out of case comparing to air cooling where most of the heat blow/stay in the case.

If your riser has RGB it can push an extra 200Mhz
