cokeman54 kerryd Not sure how good a deal but heres some socket f motherboards. I put a offer in on 2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...n&autorefresh=true I also put in an offer and they just accepted. Paid for it, now that I have committed what else do I need. Have a PSU but have never used Linux so can use any guides available. What can be expected as to PPD and do I need to change CPU. Will 20 gig HD be okay. I am sure more questions will follow. You'll find pretty much everything you need to know in this socket F guide. 3P socket F MB? Edit: should have grabbed the one above your post you'd be folding bigadv in no time, already has the hex core CPU's and is a good price for what your getting. Cost me around $350 for that same setup and those 8425's are getting hard to find at a good price. 20GB HDD will work fine.

asus939 are you going quad or hex core Most likely Hex core on 1 not sure about other one . Think they will start out with the 2 core cpu's and fold reg smp . Still got to do some research but I think I should be able to change out 2 cpu's at a time but not sure on that. My plan is to turn off my reg comps one by one. Hoping power bill will go down some. Edit Hehe who am I kidding I will never turn comps off but change them to full time crunchers.

I'm looking to find a home for my set of 4x AMD G34 6166HE, these were retail and were able to OC to (257). This would be a excellent upgrade to anyone running 8-cores chips. PM me for details.

Going by what this says 3067 MHz (3 or more cores) yes they should do 3.0. Turbo frequency 3200 MHz (1 or 2 cores) yes turbo works in Linux.

bill1024 Wolf 28:06 on a 8101 x5660 x2 stock speed. 116xxx ppd
Nice! That's a little better than I was getting. What the clock speed come out to be? Yea I was running them in a 1U server and it didn't hold the clock speed to well on the spicy chips 5670. Should have been running at 3.2 but dropped off to 3.05x,could never find a update bios for the board. So I moved them into one of the SR2's so I could over clock them. Could be just the chips as they don't overclock very well at all. I was able to get them stable folding at only 3.8Ghz without extreme voltage. 1.30v core is what it takes to do 3.8 with temps under load at mid 60c with Hyper 212's.

bill1024 I am not sure what the speed is, when I do sudo clockspeed I get an error. It is an Asus Z8NA-D6C board with intel chips. Not sure if the folding appliance is just set up for SM AMD setups. Temp command does not work either. That gives an error too. It's folding away and the fans ramped up and the heatsinks are just a lil warm and the air coming off is not hot. The high temp alarm is not beeping so I am not worried. I will check Asus webpage in the AM. and see if they have a package for linux tpf is 28:04 last I checked so I would think it is running @ 3ghz since it is 30 sec faster than what you had @ 3ghz.
The AMD commands don't work on Intel chips, you'll need to get i7z. You can download the zip type file and place those files in a folder "i7z" do a "make" after a CD i7z in that folder. or you can download the Pre-compiled Binaries 64bit version and place it inside your Home folder. this should let it run from any terminal window with: sudo ./i7z_64bit, and you could do like I do I just rename it to i7z_64bit to i7z making it simpler then sudo ./i7z i7z will show you temp and speed plus load.

Also forgot you'll need to do this part from a terminal were you placed the pre-compiled Binaries. 1. chmod +x i7z_XXbit (where XX=32 or 64 depending on OS type) 2. sudo ./i7z_XXbit (where XX=32 or 64 depending on OS type)

I had just setup Mint 15 last week on one rig and used the H fahinstall but didn't see i7z as part of the install. i7z was the 1st things I downloaded and installed like normal, it may have been in the root file system or one of its folders I didn't know so I didn't look before setting up i7z. Next time I do a clean install I'll have to see if I can find it before hand or just try the sudo ./i7z command from a terminal. Did you locate where its installed to? Not that it really matters I'm all set for now. I only did a clean install of Mint 15 to try it out. Doesn't take long to setup i7z or many of the things I use now as I'm getting around in Linux fairly well these days.

Glad you got it working. Yea temps can be a little wacky, but think there very close to right. On these chips I wouldn't worry even if the temp was 65c, they can handle it. I have one SR2 the the back cpu socket runs close to 70c while folding. Hasn't been a problem yet, I will soon change the CPU's around to the other socket just to see if that will make any difference in the back cpu temps. I've already re-seated the back HS without much change to the temp readings for that CPU. I have found some chips to have wacky sensors.

But asus 1 gtx770 is = to 1 ankle biter and cheaper to run well the classy ones are anyway. It costs about the same or a little less per gpu if you do not buy the hydro.I been thinking of pulling the trigger on 1 more for # 3.I think it costs me around $100 more in power to run 2 4p ankle biters over 3 computers with 2 gpus each. and that was with gtx5xx gpus go figure
